Chapter 271
Chapter 271
Mavis never saw this coming.
Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed, “Honey, we’ve been together for so many years. Can you really just walk away from all that?”
She honestly couldn’t imagine her life without him.
But Leo just stared at her, his face cold and expressionless. “People move on all the time. Nothing is truly irreplaceable.
“Go home and get ready. I’m divorcing you, no matter what.”
Once he made a decision, that was it-he never looked back.
Mavis had clawed her way up to become Mrs. Hammond-there’s no way she’d give that up without a fight.
“No! I won’t get divorced.”
She reached out, trying to cling to him, desperate not to lose him.
But Leo just stood up and stepped back, out of her grasp. “There’s no point in dragging this
out.
“Just go. And don’t ever show up at the office again.
“I’ll bring the divorce papers home for you to sign tomorrow.”
Mavis shook her head, tears streaming down her face. “No, I’m staying right here.”
If she left now, she’d lose any chance to make things right.
Leo frowned at her. “Fine, then I’ll leave.”
She’s way too old to be sobbing like this, makeup all smeared-he couldn’t even stand to look
at her.
With that, he strode out of the office from the other side, not even looking back.
He turned to his secretary. “Have Mavis taken back to the Hammond residence later.”
The secretary noticed how Leo had stopped calling her “Mrs. Hammond” and just said “Mavis” now-he knew she was in deep trouble this time.
But he didn’t dare say a word in her defense. “Yes, sir.”

Chapter 271
Mavis was left reeling-she never imagined Leo would just abandon her like that.
All these years, she was sure he had feelings for her; she could feel it in her bones.
She thought her devoted attention and wholehearted love would make him need her, that he couldn’t live without her.
But now, he was cutting her off so ruthlessly-it was something she never thought possible.
By the time she snapped out of it and ran after him, he was already gone.
Mavis turned to the secretary, tears streaming down her face. “He wants a divorce. What do I do now?”
The secretary’s face darkened. “Mrs. Hammond, this is between you and Mr. Hammond. I’m not in a position to give you advice.”
They were still at the office, and there were cameras in the hallway.
Mavis was talking to him like they were old friends, hoping he’d help her out, but he wouldn’t dare get involved.
He kept his tone strictly professional and motioned for her to come along. “Mrs. Hammond, Mr. Hammond asked me to take you back to the Hammond residence. This way, please.”
Mavis snapped out of it and nodded. “Alright.”
What they didn’t know was that Leo had already asked the surveillance team to send him the footage.
After watching it, he was sure-there was definitely something going on behind his back between his secretary and Mavis.
But he doubted Mavis could actually convince his secretary to turn on him.
Now, the real question was-who was really pulling the strings behind all this?
Instead of heading back to the villa, Leo drove out to a secluded estate in the suburbs.
This was the estate his late wife had bought, and it had a huge greenhouse on the grounds.
The greenhouse at home had been renovated, but this one was still exactly the way it used to be.
He’d always made sure it stayed just like she left it, and he’d never told Mavis about it.
He walked into the greenhouse and settled into the rocking chair his late wife always loved. Only here could he finally let his guard down and feel himself unwind.
