After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret novel Chapter 401

Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Confession

「Early the next morning.」

When Nina Jacobs pushed open her door, she saw Zoraida sitting just outside.

"Morning,"

Nina Jacobs said with a smile.

Zoraida didn’t seem to be very talkative. Upon seeing Nina, she simply stood up, took her by the hand, and led her into a room down the hall.

Nina Jacobs recognized it as Zoraida’s room, which had once belonged to Isabella Ramsey.

Jenna must have cleaned the room. On a table directly across from the door sat a framed photo of a family of four.

The woman in the photo with a sunny smile and a small mole near her eyebrow had to be Isabella Ramsey.

While Nina Jacobs was taking in her surroundings, Zoraida scurried under the bed. She emerged a moment later and handed Nina a phone with a shattered screen.

"What’s this?"

Nina Jacobs found that the phone wouldn’t turn on.

The battery must be dead.

"You want me to charge it for you?" Nina Jacobs asked.

Zoraida shook her head and said, "Naomi gave this to me. She told me to keep it safe."

’Naomi?’

"Is this her? Your sister is very pretty."

Nina Jacobs pointed to a vibrant, young girl with a ponytail in the picture.

She took the phone, deciding to help Zoraida charge it later.

"You’re pretty too, Miss Jacobs."

Zoraida replied.

"Such a sweet talker. When we leave in a few days, why don’t you come with us?"

Nina Jacobs asked.

But to her surprise, Zoraida shook her head.

"Why?"

Nina Jacobs thought she was just shy around new people.

She had only learned from Cordelia that Zoraida was about seven years old.

But something in the apocalypse had likely terrified her, making her reluctant to speak.

"Mama said I have to be good and stay alive,

or else my sister won’t have a home to come back to."

Zoraida replied.

This was the mission her mother had given her before she was gone.

’As long as I’m here, this place is still a home.’

Nina Jacobs froze, taken aback by Zoraida’s words.

’So that’s why she’s doing everything she can to survive?’

"You’re doing great." Nina Jacobs held out a fist. As she turned it over to reveal her palm, a few milk candies appeared.

"You’re great too, Miss Jacobs. You’ve saved a lot of people,

and you saved me."

Zoraida said.

"Yes, we’re all doing great."

Nina Jacobs said with a smile.

Just then, a commotion erupted outside.

She thought she could hear Cordelia’s voice.

Nina Jacobs went out and found a group of people in base guard uniforms lined up in the hallway.

They had the entrance and exit completely blocked.

A bald man was at their head.

He had a menacing look on his face. As his gaze swept over the people before him, Zoraida instinctively hid behind Nina Jacobs.

"Who captured the base’s Healer yesterday? Huh?

Step forward now!"

The bald man said.

People filed out of their rooms, Cassian Lynch among them.

But no one answered the bald man’s question.

And no one pointed any fingers.

"Not talking, huh?" The bald man’s eyes turned sinister. He strode over to one of the men, grabbed him, and drove a fist into his stomach!

"Looks to me like you’re all deliberately trying to make my life difficult."

the bald man snarled, continuing to beat the man savagely.

He was a Strength Element Superpower User, and he put his full force behind every punch.

But even under such a brutal assault, the man didn’t say a word.

This only made the bald man angrier.

The onlookers glared at him with hatred, but no one dared to intervene.

They knew any resistance would be futile.

Cassian Lynch clenched his fists.

’It’s not that I’m afraid to confess, but Killian Hayes and the others still haven’t recovered. They need someone to look after them right now. But I can’t just stand by and watch someone get beaten like this. Everyone still alive in this dormitory only made it this far by sticking together.’
