After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle) novel Chapter 101

Chapter 101

Elle’s POV

😀

I couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Here was Brad Rayne, the formidable Alpha who commanded respect from every werewolf in

Moonshade Bay, kneeling on the floor like an excited child, completely lost in wonder at the tiny movements within me.

“Sir?” Martha’s voice came from the doorway, followed by a soft knock. “The doctor from Rayne Medical Center has arrived,”

The physician who entered looked startled to find Brad in his current position.

“Mr. Rayne, the doctor is here!” Martha announced more formally.

Brad jumped up without the slightest embarrassment, his face still beaming with happiness. He didn’t seem to care that his undignified position had been witnessed by multiple staff members. His Alpha status and reputation meant nothing compared to this moment.

“Perfect timing,” he said, his voice thick with anticipation. “Come on, let’s go to the examination room.”

The specialized examination room had been prepared with the latest equipment. Everything gleamed under the soft lighting as I settled onto the examination table, Brad positioning himself in a chair directly beside me where he could watch every detail.

“Please, give her a thorough check,” Brad urged the doctor, his amber eyes fixed intently on both the monitoring equipment and my belly.

The steady beeping of the fetal heart monitor filled the room, and I could feel the baby moving around inside me, as if responding to all the attention. Brad leaned forward, completely absorbed by the rhythmic sounds and the slight movements visible on my skin.

“This is incredible,” he murmured, more to himself than anyone else. His usual controlled demeanor had completely dissolved, replaced by the wonder of an expectant father experiencing these moments for the first time.

I found myself watching him more than the equipment. This version of Brad was someone I’d never seen before.

“The baby is developing perfectly, the doctor announced with a warm smile as she finished the examination. “The nutrition has been excellent, and the fetus is very active. You’re going to have quite the little troublemaker on your hands,”

“Troublemaker is good!” Brad responded immediately, his joy spilling over. “That means he’ll be strong and spirited!”

With Alex’s help, I slowly sat up on the examination table, smoothing down my clothes. “When is my next major checkup scheduled?” I

asked.

“Miss West, this is actually a very important time,” the doctor explained enthusiastically. “We’re entering the phase where the baby’s facial features are forming.”

My eyes lit up at this information. Would the baby look like Brad? The thought made me glance over at him involuntarily.

Brad caught my look and raised an eyebrow with unmistakable confidence.

I had to fight back a laugh at his smugness.

The good mood from the examination carried over to lunch. We sat across from each other in the dining room, both eating with more

appetite than we’d had in days.

I noticed how elegantly Brad handled his fork and knife, every movement precise and controlled. Without really thinking about it, I cut a small piece of the tender meat on my plate and moved to place it on his plate. But before I could set it down, Brad leaned forward and ate

directly from my fork.

The casual intimacy of the gesture caught me completely off guard. I froze, not sure how to react, while Brad chewed thoughtfully as if nothing unusual had happened.

From the corner of my eye, I could see Martha and the other staff members exchanging meaningful glances. Martha was practically glowing with happiness, and I caught her discreetly taking a photo with her phone – probably to send to Elizabeth Rayne.

“Mm, tastes good,” Brad commented matter-of-factly, completely unbothered by what had just happened. “Today’s lunch is excellent.”

I stared at my fork, my mind spinning. Should I get a new one? That seemed overly dramatic. But continuing to use it felt… intimate in a way that made my heart race.

After lunch, Brad excused himself to handle some business calls in his study. He lingered for a moment, as if reluctant to leave.

‘I’ll just be a few minutes,” he said, his eyes still soft with the warmth from our meal together.

While I waited in the living room, Martha sat beside me, her face radiant with happiness.

‘I’m so happy for you!” she said warmly. “Mr. Rayne is truly devoted to you now. This is the first time I’ve seen him genuinely care for

someone.

I touched my belly absently, feeling the baby stir in response to my emotional state. Is he really devoted to me? I wondered. The question felt dangerous to even consider.

When Brad finally emerged from the study, Alex materialized from wherever he’d been waiting. Brad approached me,

than usual.

I’m heading to the office,” he said quietly.

“Mm, I responded, then found myself adding, “Be safe.”

The words slipped out before I could stop them. Brad’s face lit up with satisfaction.

“I will,” he promised, reaching out to gently stroke my golden hair. The touch sent shivers down my spine. “I know.”

He turned and walked away, his tall figure confident and purposeful.

After taking a walk around the garden, I was heading back to the bedroom for an afternoon rest when my phone rang. Amy immediately

handed it to me.

The number was unfamiliar, but I answered anyway. “Hello?”

“Elle West?” The voice on the other end was harsh and threatening. “You know Susan, right? If you want her to stay alive, you’d better get

over here right now!”

My blood ran cold. “What are you talking about?”

“Your precious adoptive mother is in my hands, the voice continued with cruel satisfaction. “If you don’t come, I’ll cut off her fingers and

mail them to you one by one!”

The line went dead.

I stared at the phone, my heart pounding. This had to be another one of Marissa’s schemes. I’d fallen for her tricks before I wasn’t going

to be manipulated again.

I deleted the call from my history and tried to put it out of my mind.

But then my phone buzzed with a text message. My hands trembled as I opened it.

It was a photo. It was unmistakably my adoptive mother, Susan.

“No,” I whispered, my breath coming in short gasps. “This can’t be real. How could Mom be in Marissa’s hands? This is impossible!”

The phone rang again immediately. This time I answered on the first ring.

‘Marissa,” I said, my voice shaking with anger and fear. “What kind of sick game are you playing now?”
