Chapter 39
Elle’s POV

I’d known the Rayne Group headquarters wasn’t in Moonshade Bay, but nothing could have prepared me
for this.
I’d heard stories about the Rayne Group’s miracle, but seeing it in person made those tales seem like understated whispers. If this empire ever fell, all of Silverpeak City would collapse with it. A third of the city’s population-both humans and werewolves-worked here.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t notice Brad had walked ahead until he turned around, his eyes
finding me still standing in shock.
“Are you coming?” he asked, his tone softer than usual.
I blinked, unable to form words. His expression shifted subtly as he walked back to me, reaching for my hand. His warm fingers interlaced with mine, and I caught him taking a quick sniff of my scent.
“Let’s go.”
I looked down at our intertwined fingers, remembering our agreement. Right. We were playing the devoted couple today. I didn’t pull away, telling myself this was part of the act.
Brad led me straight to a private elevator marked with the Alpha symbol-a stylized wolf head embossed in gold. He pressed his palm to a scanner, and the doors sd open silently.
“Wait,” I said as we stepped inside. “Why are we meeting the German Alpha and Luna here instead of
Moonshade Bay?”
“We’re going to the roof,” Brad replied.
“The roof? People meet guests on rooftops?”
The elevator continued its smooth ascent as I nervously bit my lower lip. “Brad,” I said quietly, “will Alpha
Otto look down on me because I’m human?”
Brad turned to look at me, “Don’t worry about that. Ott is strict, but he respects the mate bond. His own
Luna has some human ancestry.”
His words provided a small measure of comfort.

Just be yourself,” he added. “No one would dare disrespect you.”
I took a deep breath and nodded, determined not to embarrass him or myself.

When the doors finally opened, my jaw nearly hit the floor. The “roof” was actually a massive landing pad- no, an entire airfield. Three private jets were already parked there.
“What the actual…” I couldn’t even finish my sentence, completely stunned by the scale of what I was seeing. The people from my human community couldn’t even imagine something like this existed.
Brad looked down at me, clearly amused by my shocked expression.
“Better wipe that drool before it drips,” he teased, the corner of his mouth lifting in a rare smile.
I automatically raised my free hand to my mouth before realizing my fingers were still intertwined with his. I suddenly became very aware of the fact that he hadn’t let go since we’d entered the building.
I tried to pull my hand away, but his grip tightened slightly. Left with no choice, I glared at him and used my other hand to wipe at my perfectly dry mouth.
“Very funny,” I muttered.
His smile widened, and I could tell he was enjoying my discomfort.
“They’re approaching,” Brad said suddenly, his posture straightening. “Stand ready.”
I felt my hand tighten around his, my nerves returning full force. He glanced down at me, obviously hearing my accelerated heartbeat.
The sleek private jet touched down smoothly on the landing pad. Brad led me forward to greet our guests, and I forced my leaden feet to follow.
Alpha Otto and Luna Ada appeared to be in their fifties though I knew werewolves aged differently than humans. Both carried themselves with unmistakable authority as they descended from the aircraft hand in
hand.
Brad greeted them in flawless German: “Alpha Otto, Luna Ada, willkommen auf dem Rayne-Territorium.”
I swallowed hard and attempted the greeting I’d practiced: “Hallo! Willkommen!” My accent was probably terrible, but I’d tried.
Luna Ada approached me first, her warm smile putting me somewhat at ease. She embraced me gently.

“Brad hat wirklich Glück, seine wahre Geführtin zu finden,” she said warmly. “Dein Duft ist sehr besonders,
Kind.”
I had no idea what she’d said, but I smiled politely.
Brad shook hands with Alpha Otto, then they briefly touched necks in what I recognized as a traditional werewolf greeting. He exchanged a briefer hug with Lur Ada before introducing me.
“This is Elle, my mate,” he said in English. “Her German is still a work in progress.”
“Willkommen,” I repeated, stumbling over the pronunciation.
“Will-KOMM-en,” Brad corrected under his breath.
Alpha Otto and Luna Ada switched to English. “Brad’s mate is quite an interesting human,” Otto said, his eyes lingering on mine.
I felt relief wash over me. “You speak English! Thank God.” Then I shot Brad an accusing look for not
telling me.
“I only learned German for three days,” I admitted sheepishly.
Luna Ada laughed kindly. “Don’t worry, dear. I can help you with your German if you’d like.” She studied my eyes with interest, though she tried to be subtle about i.
We moved inside to a luxurious reception room where human staff served refreshments. While Brad and Alpha Otto conversed in rapid German, I sat smiling politely, understanding nothing.
Luna Ada, noticing my discomfort, turned to me. “Tell me about your hobby, Elle?”
“I enjoy cooking,” I said sincerely. “Especially for people I care about. There’s something really satisfying about watching someone eat food you’ve prepared.”
Brad, though engaged in conversation with Otto, was clearly monitoring what I said. When he heard this, something shifted in his expression as he recalled the spaghetti I’d made him.
“I imagine Brad must appreciate your cooking skills,” Luna Ada commented.
“Absolutely,” Brad interjected smoothly. “Elle’s cooking quite special.”
I shot him a glare, remembering how he’d called my pasta “awful” before devouring two plates of it.

“In fact, Brad continued, “Elle insisted on preparing a special meal at the office for Alpha Otto and Luna Ada’s rare American visit. I couldn’t refuse her.”
My eyes widened in shock. What was he talking about?
Alpha Otto and Luna Ada seemed delighted by this news. “Wonderful! We prefer simple gatherings. It
would be our honor.”
Before I could protest, Brad pulled me aside, leaning close to my ear. His warm breath sent an unwelcome
shiver down my spine.
“I just got word that Luna Ada prefers steak. That shouldn’t be too difficult, right?”
I wanted to roll my eyes. Steak might sound simple, but what about the quality? The preparation? And I’d never cooked in this building before!
Brad seemed to read my concerns. “Alex has already arranged for the finest cuts to be prepared. And Grandmother mentioned that if you perform well today, she might arrange for you to visit your family in
the human community.”
My irritation vanished instantly, replaced by a spark of hope. I’d been worried sick about Susan, wondering if she was being mistreated in my absence.
I looked into Brad’s eyes, searching for deception. “You promise?”
“Remember to act like a proper mate,” he reminded me with a wink.

Not sure how the story ended without completing the circle on what happened to Sophia and Lester. That loop was just left hanging... what happened with the Blair contract of having to married Raymond? All Eleanor wanted was a piece of Rayne industries?...
