Chapter 76
Sophia’s POV

I stood by the window of my living room, watching Elle hap peacefully on my couch. My phone vibrated again-Marissa calling. This was the seventh call in the past hour. I rejected it immediately. thinking how
this shameless she-wolf really knew no boundaries.
I typically don’t interfere with Moonshade Bay’s internal affairs, but I couldn’t stand watching that bitch
Marissa continue her antics.
The phone stopped vibrating for less than ten seconds before lighting up again-this time with messages.
Then a second, a third… a stream of texts flooded in.
Marissa was saying same old bullshit that she couldn’t ve without Brad again.
“Fucking ridiculous.” I scoffed.
More messages popped up. Marissa sent several diagnostic certificates from the Rayne Medical Center.
A photo of a doctor’s signature caught my attention. I zoomed in, my werewolf’s keen vision allowing me to see every detail. I recognized the signing doctor as Joseph Green, an old acquaintance who specialized in
werewolf genetics research.
I called Joseph directly.
“Joseph, it’s me, Sophia.”
“Sophia! Long time no see. Are you still in Moonshade Bay?”
“Yes. Joseph, I want to ask you about a patient with werewolf genetic defects. Have you recently treated.
someone named Marissa Hopkins in Moonshade Bay?”
“Marissa Hopkins? No, I’ve never treated or even examined anyone by that name,” Joseph replied with certainty. “I was in Moonshade Bay purely for research collection. I didn’t see any patients while I was
there.”
“So you wouldn’t have signed any diagnostic certificates for her condition?”
“Absolutely not! I haven’t issued any diagnostic documents for anyone in Moonshade Bay. I was strictly
collecting research samples – not treating patients.”

I sent Joseph the photo from Elle’s phone. A few seconds later, Joseph’s angry voice came through the
phone.
“Bastard! This is forged!”
“I see,” I said calmly.

I woke up groggily, finding my phone turned off. After powering it back on, I saw that an hour had passed. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, making my heterochromatic eyes appear especially bright.
Sophia brought me a glass of specially made juice, urging me to get up.
“How long did I sleep?” I asked, rubbing my eyes.
“An hour.” Sophia handed me the juice. “Brad had Alex deliver this, specifically instructed for you. It
contains nutrients beneficial for a human mother.”
I felt something stir inside me but quickly warned myself not to read too much into it. Brad only cared about the half-werewolf child in my womb, not wanting anything to go wrong. After all, this was the Rayne
family’s heir.
“Wait,” I suddenly realized, “Brad knew I was here?”
Sophia smiled. “He warned that if you don’t go to the office this afternoon, it counts as absence, even with your special status, you still need to follow the rules.”
“What?” I complained in surprise. “He’s so stingy! I can let him dock my pay!”
Sophia laughed, but seeing my serious expression, she arranged for her driver to take me to Rayne Group.
When I arrived at the company, I saw Alex waiting at the entrance, this human assistant-one of the few able to work at the executive level-was always impeccable.
“Alpha Rayne instructed that upon your arrival, you should go directly to the top-floor conference room to prepare. Don’t worry about attendance issues,” Alex replied calmly.
I guessed it might be about the collaboration, as I had organized related materials before. As a special assistant, I should assist the Alpha with meetings, despite my current status extending beyond an ordinary

I touched my slightly protruding belly. The morning sickness had passed, and my stomach was beginning
to show.
Pushing open the conference room door, I was surprised to find only Brad there, his Alpha aura filling the entire space. He sat in his chair with casual confidence, one hand propping his chin, his amber eyes fixed on me, slender pupils slightly contracted.
“I fell asleep at Sophia’s,” I explained, my voice catching in my throat.
Brad’s amber eyes locked onto mine. “I know. Company policy still stands-absence deducts the month’s bonus.” His voice was neutral, but the underlying message was clear. “Even for someone carrying my child.”
“Like I get much of a bonus anyway,” I muttered before could stop myself. It was true though-humans never received the same compensation as werewolves, regardless of the work we did.
Brad leaned forward slightly. “You completed two important tasks this month. The Steel Forest Pack and the Carter Group collaboration.” Something in his tone shifted. “Those bonuses aren’t insignificant…”
My heart skipped a beat. Money. Actual money that I could save. I felt my face light up before I could
control my reaction.
Brad’s expression changed in response to mine-a subtle narrowing of his pupils, a slight tilt of his head. It was the same look I’d caught him giving me several times, like something about me triggered his wolf
instincts.
He gestured to a chair not far from his own.
“So… I’m not considered absent then?” I asked cautiously as I sat down, hating how insecure I sounded. “And the bonus amount would be…?” Money meant freedom, and freedom was something I desperately
needed.
“Why are you so concerned about money?” Brad’s question cut straight to the point.
I took a deep breath. “My belly’s starting to show.” I placed my hand protectively over the small bump.
“Soon I won’t be able to continue working normally.” I met his gaze directly. “After I have the baby, I’ll need funds to restart my life. Going back to the human community won’t be easy.”
“You’re that eager to leave me?”

The growl in Brad’s voice made me look up in surprise. His voice had that unmistakable Alpha rumble that made the hair on my arms stand up.
I blinked in confusion. Did he think I was trying to negotiate for more? Did he believe I wanted to stay and keep enjoying the privileges that came with carrying his child?
“This is our agreement, isn’t it?” I said carefully, trying to sound reasonable. “I’ll follow the deal-have the baby, then leave.”
The change was instant and terrifying. Brad surged to s feet, his powerful body tensing under his expensive suit. Before I could react, he kicked the steel chair beside him. The chair didn’t just topple-it exploded into pieces, metal fragments scattering across the floor.
The crash echoed through the conference room. I flinched, instinctively covering my stomach with both hands. My heart hammered against my ribs as I stared up at him, frozen in place.
I’d never seen him lose control like this, and it was terrifying.

Not sure how the story ended without completing the circle on what happened to Sophia and Lester. That loop was just left hanging... what happened with the Blair contract of having to married Raymond? All Eleanor wanted was a piece of Rayne industries?...
