After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle) novel Chapter 79

Elle’s POV

The evening air was crisp, and I could feel the weight of the rings hanging against my chest beneath my

blouse.

I reached the parking garage, desperate to get home. But when I got to my designated spot, I stopped dead

in my tracks.

Empty. Completely fucking empty.

I stared at the vacant space for a full minute, trying to make sense of it.

“Excuse me,” I called to the security guard making his rounds. “My car was parked in spot 47. Do you know

what happened to it?”

The guard, a middle-aged werewolf with graying temples, looked at me with a mixture of recognition and discomfort. “Ms. West, Alpha Rayne ordered your vehicle to be relocated earlier today.”

Of course he fucking did.

“Relocated where?” I asked, though I already suspected the answer wouldn’t be helpful.

“I’m sorry, ma’am. I wasn’t given those details.”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. So this was Brad’s revenge for… what exactly? For telling him I planned to leave after the baby was born? For being honest about our arrangement?

I sighed, feeling that familiar exhaustion that came with trying to navigate Brad’s unpredictable moods.

The parking garage suddenly felt too enclosed, too suffocating. I needed to get out of here.

I made my way to the street level, fishing my phone out of my purse as I went. The evening rush hour was in full swing, with cars streaming past in an endless flow.

Standing on the curb, I raised my hand to flag down a toxi. The first three that approached were already occupied, their drivers barely glancing in my direction.

Should I call Brad? The thought made my stomach twist. He was probably still furious, and I wasn’t sure I could handle another confrontation today. Plus, there was a part of me that refused to give him the

satisfaction of begging for help after he’d deliberately stranded me.

I was just raising my hand for another taxi when a familiar car slowed to a stop in front of me. The window

rolled down, and my blood ran cold.

“Elle? What are you doing out here?”

Jason Miller’s voice was exactly as I remembered it. I felt my whole body tense as I looked down at him

sitting behind the wheel.

What the hell is he doing here?

In the passenger seat was a woman I didn’t recognize, with dramatically enhanced lips and heavily contoured makeup. Her body was squeezed into a dress that left little to the imagination, and she was

already shooting daggers at me with her eyes.

“How did you-” I started, then stopped myself. I didn’t owe him any explanations.

Jason’s eyes traveled up and down my body.

“Elle, you look… different,” he said, that infuriating smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. “I mean, you seem to be doing well for yourself. But what are you doing standing out here all alone? Don’t tell me that

guy already dumped you?”

His words made my skin crawl. This was the man I’d once thought I loved? The man I’d actually considered defying Brad for, back when I was naive enough to think Jason gave a damn about anything other than

himself?

I turned my gaze away, focusing on the traffic in the distance. I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of

a response.

But Jason wasn’t done. “I really didn’t expect this, Elle. You getting picked up by that Rayne guy and then getting dropped just as fast. What happened? Did he get bored?”

The woman in the passenger seat finally spoke up, her voice sickeningly sweet but with an edge of jealousy. “Jason, I thought you said we were going to have dinner together tonight, just the two of us. Why are you spending so much time talking to her?”

Her eyes kept darting between Jason and me, clearly threatened by even this brief interaction.

“Don’t worry about it, babe,” Jason said, reaching over to pat her thigh in an exaggerated display of

affection. “This is Elle, my ex-girlfriend I told you abou

He turned back to me with that same self-satisfied expression. “Elle, meet Candy. She’s been… very good to

me lately.”

The way he said it made my stomach turn. I could practically see him mentally patting himself on the

back.

Jesus Christ, how was I ever so blind? I thought, feeling a wave of retrospective embarrassment wash over

Looking at him now, with his smug expression and his obviously high-maintenance girlfriend, I felt

nothing but disgust. And gratitude.

Thank God I was too stupid to see what he really was back then.

Jason was still talking, apparently interpreting my silence as embarrassment. “You know, Elle, there’s no shame in admitting when you’re in over your head. These powerful werewolves, they use girls like you and

then move on. It’s just how their world works.”

I finally looked at him directly, forcing my expression into a polite smile that didn’t reach my eyes. “I’m sorry to disappoint you, Jason, but Brad and I are doing just fine. We’re very happy together, and we’re not

going anywhere.”

I let my gaze shift pointedly to Candy. “As for you and your new girlfriend, I can only wish you both the best of luck. I’m sure you’ll get exactly what you deserve from each other.”

The implication wasn’t lost on either of them. Candy’s face darkened, and she shot an accusatory look at

Jason.

But Jason wasn’t ready to let it go. “Elle, come on. You don’t have to put on this act for me. If everything was so great, why would you be standing out here with ho ride home? Where’s your fancy boyfriend now?”

Fuck this asshole.

I said, “But I appreciate your concern, Jason. It’s so sweet that you still think about me. I’m sure Candy

finds that really flattering.”

Candy’s grip tightened on Jason’s arm, and I could see the doubt creeping into her eyes.

Jason’s facade cracked slightly. “Look, Elle, I’m just trying to be helpful here. If you’re in trouble, if you

need money or anything… Maybe we could work something out.”

The suggestion in his voice made my skin crawl. “Work something out?”

“You know what I mean,” he said, his eyes running over my body again. “You could join me for dinner sometime. I could help you out financially. Consider it. closure for what we used to have.”

I’m going to fucking murder him.

The rage that flooded through me was so intense I could barely see straight. My hands clenched into fists at my sides, and it took every ounce of self-control I possessed not to reach through that car window and

claw his eyes out.

Does this piece of shit actually think I need his money?

Just then, my phone buzzed with a text message. I pulled it out, grateful for the distraction, and felt my

heart skip when I saw Brad’s name.

Need me to come save you? The condition is that you cook me a big dinner tonight.

How the hell does he know I needed saving? Is he watching me somehow?
