After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle) novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87

Elle’s POV

I turned away from Brad, facing the window as I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart.

Get it together, Elle, I warned myself silently, pressing my eyes shut. You know exactly what Brad is.

When I opened my eyes again, I forced the brief flutter of hope and excitement I’d felt to disappear.

“Time to go,” Brad’s voice came from behind me, professional and distant once more. “Martha will help you get ready with the appropriate look for tonight.”

I heard him turn to leave.

“Miss Elle?” Martha’s cheerful voice called through the door. “I have some special accessories for tonight’s

event.”

I quickly composed myself, smoothing down my expression before opening the door. Martha stood there with an elegant jewelry box, practically glowing with excitement.

“What’s this?” I asked, gesturing for her to come in.

“A special selection for tonight,” Martha beamed, setting the box on my dresser. “Alpha Rayne specifically requested these pieces to complement your natural features.”

Within minutes, a professional styling team arrived-hair, makeup, and wardrobe specialists who worked with quiet efficiency. They were all human, I noticed, part of the specialized service staff that catered to mixed relationships in werewolf society.

“We’re focusing on enhancing your unique eye color,” the makeup artist explained, selecting palettes that would bring out both the green and blue in my heterochromatic eyes. “It’s quite rare and beautiful.”

As they worked, I found myself thinking about the care l attention to detail. Everything was designed to make me look like a proper Alpha’s companion, someone who belonged at Brad’s side.

Half an hour later, I barely recognized myself in the mirror. The styling was subtle but transformative, making me look elegant without appearing overdone. The dress Brad had chosen fit perfectly, and the flat shoes were both beautiful and practical.

“You look stunning, Miss Elle,” Martha said with genuine warmth. “Alpha Rayne is waiting downstairs.”

I made my way to the main staircase, my heart picking up pace despite my efforts to remain calm. Brad

was already there, leaning against the marble banister with casual elegance.

“Tonight, you look perfect standing beside an Alpha,” he said, his voice carrying that low rumble that made

my stomach flutter.

As I reached the bottom step, Brad moved closer, his hands gentle as he reached around my neck. I felt the

cool weight of a necklace settling against my skin-a moonstone pendant that caught the light beautifully.

“This will let other werewolves know exactly who you belong to,” Brad murmured near my ear, his breath

warm against my skin.

The possessive undertone in his words sent an unwanted shiver through me. He’s just making sure everyone

knows I’m carrying the Rayne heir, I reminded myself. Nothing more.

The drive to Raymond’s mansion was surprisingly short

As we turned into a familiar neighborhood, I frowned in confusion. “Wait, this is really close to where we live,” I said, recognizing the streets. “I had no idea Raymond lived around here.”

Brad glanced out the window. “He just bought this property recently.'”

When we arrived at Raymond’s estate, I was struck by the elegance of the property. The mansion sat in the heart of Moonshade Bay’s elite district, its architecture blending seamlessly with the other werewolf family

estates.

The moment Brad’s car pulled up, I could see clusters of werewolves gathering near the entrance, their attention immediately focused on us. As we stepped out a wave of excited murmurs rippled through the

crowd.

I felt dozens of eyes on me, particularly from the femal werewolves present. Some looked curious, others skeptical, and a few appeared openly hostile. The sight of a human woman arriving as an Alpha’s companion was clearly causing quite a stir.

Brad’s hand settled possessively on my lower back as we walked toward the entrance, his other hand briefly resting over my slightly rounded belly in a gesture that eft no doubt about our relationship status.

Raymond Carter appeared at the front door to greet us, extending his hand toward Brad.

“Alpha Brad,” Raymond said with forced composure, though his voice still carried an edge of shock.

“Welcome.”

“Mr. Carter,” Brad replied shortly.

As we moved into the mansion’s grand foyer, the crowd of werewolves applauded enthusiastically. Raymond and Brad walked to the center of the room, and I felt the weight of every gaze in the room.

“Thank you all for joining us tonight,” Raymond announced, his voice carrying easily through the space. “We’re here to celebrate the successful partnership between the Carter Group and Rayne Group.”

Brad stepped forward, his presence immediately commanding the room’s full attention. “The future prosperity of Moonshade Bay depends on alliances like ours,” he said, his voice carrying subtle authority. “We appreciate human partners who understand the value of cooperation.”

As the formal speeches concluded, I found myself standing slightly apart from the main group when a

young woman approached me with a warm smile.

“Hi,” she said brightly. “I’m Abigail Carter, Raymond’s sister.”

I was immediately struck by how normal she seemed-clearly human, like me, but comfortable and

confident in this werewolf-dominated environment.

“Elle,” I replied, returning her smile. “Nice to meet you.

“I have to say, it’s refreshing to meet another human at one of these events,” Abigail continued, her voice carrying genuine warmth. “Would you like to find somewhere quieter to chat? These gatherings can be a

bit overwhelming.”

I glanced around the room, noting how the werewolves naturally clustered together while giving me polite

but distant attention. “That sounds perfect.”

Abigail led me to a more secluded corner of the mansion where a small sitting area had been arranged. Almost immediately, a server appeared with drinks-a special nutritional blend for me, while the werewolves in the main area were being served what looked like bloody marys and champagne.

“That’s very thoughtful,” I said, touched by the consideration for my pregnancy.

“Raymond insisted on having options for human guests Abigail explained, settling into the chair across from me. “Especially expecting mothers.”

As I sipped my drink, I noticed Abigail studying my face with intense curiosity.

“Is something wrong?” I asked, suddenly self-conscious.

Abigail leaned forward slightly, her expression shifting to one of amazement. “I’m sorry for staring, but… you really do look exactly like Dakota.”

My hand tightened around my glass. “You knew Dakota Blair?”

“I’ve seen her pictures countless times,” Abigail said softly. “I always thought that having the same face appearing in two different people was impossible. But seeing you tonight… I realize I was wrong.”
