Realizing Reina had misunderstood, Eliana was just about to explain when Nathan cut her off. “Not yet.”

Eliana’s eyes went wide as she stared at him.

But Reina just nodded knowingly. “I get it. Young folks these days want to enjoy some couple time before jumping into parenthood. No need to rush.”

She gave Nathan a serious look. “But honestly, Eliana’s a real beauty. You really need to treat her well. Having a baby is a huge step for a woman.

“Let her get mentally prepared first, and when the time comes, make sure you pay even more attention to her. Otherwise, she might feel left out or disappointed.

“Especially right after she has the baby. No matter how disciplined she is, her body might not be the same. Someone as gorgeous as Eliana will probably feel it even more, so you really need to be there for her.

“I’ve watched Eliana grow up, and I really care about her. Make sure you treat her well.”

Reina could go on and on, but Nathan, who’s usually not the most patient guy, was surprisingly attentive this time, nodding along as she spoke.

Seeing Nathan’s serious face and Reina’s genuine concern, Eliana felt a bit embarrassed to shatter this sweet little illusion. So when Reina kept giving her advice, Eliana just nodded along.

After Reina left to take care of something else, Eliana turned to Nathan with a serious look. “Why did you lie to her?”

Nathan was feeling pretty uneasy, but he kept a straight face, just kept his head down, eating quietly.

Hearing Eliana’s question, he swallowed his food and said slowly, “I had a few too many drinks that day. Reina said we must. be married, and I don’t know what came over me, I just went along with it.

“Maybe it was because she kept saying how impressive I was, telling me I was amazing for winning you over. I can’t handle that kind of praise, so I just couldn’t help myself.”

As he said this, Nathan finally looked up at Eliana. “But honestly, I really didn’t expect that after ten years, they’d still remember us, and really think we’re married.

“I just didn’t want to shatter the beautiful feelings they hold onto. Playing along only makes them believe even more that true love is real, doesn’t it?”

Nathan didn’t even notice how much he tended to ramble whenever he felt panic. After spilling all that, he finally ducked his head and went back to eating.

Eliana looked at him, let out a quiet sigh, and didn’t say anything else. As she thought about Nathan’s words, Eliana couldn’t help but feel a heaviness settle in her chest.

‘Sure, but that’s just how other people see it, Eliana thought to herself.

In real life, there weren’t that many true love stories. Most of the time, it was just a bunch of everyday chaos

Eliana let out a bitter smile at the thought, but she didn’t let those feelings fester inside her.

She was lucky to get a second chance, and she faced it with a much clearer mind. At least she’d managed to break free from that swamp of a marriage.

Chapter 67

With that thought, Eliana lowered her head and quietly started eating.

After ten years, the food still tasted exactly the same. The familiar flavors hit her, and all those old memories of the good times came flooding back.

Suddenly, Eliana remembered one of Nathan’s old embarrassing moments and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

Seeing her in such a good mood, Nathan’s lips curled into a smile too, but he still put on a slow, deliberate act and asked, “What’s got you so happy all of a sudden?”

“Hey, remember back in sophomore year when you totally bombed that test and ended up dead last in the class?

“Then you started chatting with me in the middle of class, and the teacher made you stand outside as punishment. You tried to play it cool, but then…” Eliana teased.

Nathan immediately knew which story she was talking about, and his face darkened. “Nope, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Seriously? You don’t remember?” Eliana laughed. “How could you forget something that funny? Well, if you really forgot, let me help you out. I’ll refresh your memory.

“You thought you were showing off and only I was watching, but the teacher had the whole class staring at you. And then, your folks got called to school.

“But after that, quite a few girls in our class actually confessed to you. Guess your little show–off act really worked.‘

Nathan looked like he was getting annoyed by her teasing, but honestly, he was actually loving every second of it.

Watching her ramble on, Nathan felt like they’d slipped right back into those old days, and it filled him with a warmth he couldn’t quite put into words.

He put some food in her plate, pretending to be annoyed. “Even eating can’t shut you up, huh?”

He knew her well. If he acted annoyed, she’d just get even more fired up.

Just like that, as Eliana kept chatting away, it was as if someone had splashed color onto all those old memories. Suddenly, everything felt so vivid and alive again.

Nathan listened to every story she told, his eyes lingering on her, the emotions in them growing warmer and deeper with each memory she brought up.

Meanwhile, Isabella was still hanging around the Eliot Mansion when Aurora stormed back in.
