Eliana hung up the phone without another word.

Logan was so pissed off that the anger sobered him up faster than any cold shower, his phone still clenched in his hand.

Just realizing he’d drunk–dialed Eliana without even thinking made him feel a wave of regret.

In six years of marriage, Eliana was always the one to apologize first after a fight.

He was so used to that routine, he just couldn’t stomach the idea of being the one to ask her to come back. Even now, he really wanted her to come back.

When the booze was still clouding his mind, Logan actually found himself missing her for a moment. But when he heard her hang up so decisively, it pissed him off even more.

He tossed his phone aside, thinking he must’ve been crazy to call her first. She was pregnant with his kid, and she was obviously just waiting for him to cave.

If he fell for it now, she’d probably use this move on him again and again. Thinking that, Logan walked out of the study, annoyed.

As soon as Logan walked out, Sophie hurried over. “Logan, Mr. Samuel is awake. The hospital just called, he’s having a meltdown, won’t stop asking for you.

“He’s not supposed to cry because of his eyes, but the doctors tried everything and nothing worked, so they had no choice but to call home.”

Logan’s expression soured, and he rushed out without another word. With alcohol still in his system, Logan couldn’t drive, so he had to call for a driver and get to the hospital.

On the way, Logan stared out the window and let out a frustrated sigh. It had only been a month, and he was already on the verge of a breakdown.

When Eliana was around, he barely had to lift a finger when it came to Samuel. Now, out of nowhere, everything was dumped on him.

‘Did she really vanish for a month just to kick back and watch me crack, hoping I’d be the first to fold?‘ Logan thought. ‘Why am I the one stuck handling everything now, when the kid’s not just mine?

Thinking all this, Logan hit Eliana’s number again. But she didn’t even hesitate, just hung up on him, cold as ice.

Logan was losing it. He kept calling, but every single time, she shut him down.

By the fifth call, she’d blocked his number. Instead, Eliana shot him a text: [This is my personal time. I’d appreciate some privacy. Please stop calling.]

[And if this is about Samuel, you and your mom were the ones who said I’d never see him again. Hope you stick to your word and don’t chicken out halfway.]

Staring at Eliana’s messages, Logan felt his blood pressure hit the roof. With his calls blocked, all he could do was hammer out a long message and send it anyway.

Too bad, he instantly got a notification that his message had been rejected.

The driver nearly jumped out of his skin, but kept his mouth shut and just floored the gas, desperate to get this nightmare shift over with.

When Logan got to the hospital, Samuel was bawling his eyes out. He’d ripped off the eye recovery device and was screaming for his dad and Isabella.

The doctor looked like he’d just been saved from a nightmare when he saw Logan. He hurried over and said, “Mr. Eliot, thank goodness you’re here. Please, talk to Mr. Samuel.

“He’s cried out all the eye drops we just put in, and the device won’t stay on him. This treatment can’t be interrupted, or all the previous treatments will be for nothing.

“We really tried everything, but we were worried about hurting Mr. Samuel, so we had no choice but to call you in the middle of the night.”

Logan nodded, forcing himself to stay calm. “You guys can go. I’ll handle it.”

“Okay,” the doctor replied, and he and the others left the room.

Logan gently closed the door and walked over to Samuel. Honestly, seeing Samuel like this made Logan’s anger bubble up, but he forced himself to hold it back, knowing the kid must be in a lot of pain.

He picked up the things from the floor and tried to keep his voice gentle. “Samuel, why won’t you listen? This is the best and most advanced treatment out there.

“It’ll help your eyes heal quickly, and you won’t have any problems later on. You just need to work with us for a little while, okay? Why are you so upset?”

“It hurts,” Samuel cried, his voice thick with tears. “I don’t want to wear this thing anymore.

“Isabella said all this ‘for my own good‘ stuff is just Mom trying to trick me. If she really cared, she wouldn’t make me suffer like this.

“Dad, I don’t want to stay in the hospital anymore. I can see now, I’m already better. Can you please just take me home?

“That doctor’s bad too. Mom must’ve told him to do this, so he’s just here to make me miserable. He doesn’t want me to feel better, that’s why he keeps doing this to me.

“Please, take me away, or they’ll keep making me suffer.”

Honestly, hearing Samuel sob and say all that, Logan was floored. He had no clue why Samuel would ever think Eliana was trying to hurt him.
