Inside the van.
Brother Chuan pulled out a cigarette from his pocket and a lighter, but the lighter was damp, and after several attempts, it failed to ignite.
"Damn it!" he swore, tossing the lighter aside and turning to grab Monkey, "Lighter!"
Huddled in the corner of the van, Luo Xiaoqian saw her chance, abruptly sat up, seized the door handle, and with all her might, pulled the door open, leaping out without a second thought.
Brother Chuan never expected the girl would dare to jump from the moving vehicle. He instinctively reached out to grab her, but his hand clutched at thin air.
Luo Xiaoqian crashed heavily onto the rain-soaked road. Due to the momentum of the moving car, she rolled several times before coming to a stop.
Her arms, legs, face... pain seared everywhere, but she didn’t stop to check for injuries, only scrambling desperately to her feet, running towards the other side of the road.
The van screeched to a halt, and Brother Chuan and Monkey both leaped out, chasing after her together.
Luo Xiaoqian vaulted over the guardrail, and as a car came from the opposite side, she ran towards it in a panic.
"Help, save me..."
To her dismay, the car simply swerved around her and sped away.
Behind her, Brother Chuan and Monkey had already hurdled the guardrail.
"You little bitch, just wait and see how I deal with you!"
Brother Chuan cursed as he ran after her.
This damn girl, looking so thin and frail, who would’ve thought she’d be so fierce, jumping from such a fast-moving car?
Hearing the curses of the two men behind her, Luo Xiaoqian just kept running for her life.
Her heartbeat was racing faster, her breathing grew more rapid... Her wet clothes clung to her, restricting her movement.
Below the bridge was pitch-dark, with only faint glimmers of light on the water, suggesting a river flowed underneath.
Brother Chuan walked over, peered down for a while, but saw no sign of Luo Xiaoqian.
"She had the guts to jump from such a high bridge, that girl’s got spirit!" Brother Chuan stood on the edge of the bridge, spitting into the water below, "Forget it, if she didn’t drown, she’s lucky, consider it my gift to her. But if she’s drowned, she deserved it, it’s none of my business. Let’s go!"
The money was already in hand, and though he had wanted to have his way with the girl, her fierce resistance had disappointed Brother Chuan. In such torrential rain, he had no interest in jumping into the water to retrieve her.
"That girl, although skinny, was really pretty. It’s a pity if she’s dead!" Hou Er said.
"You’re just upset you didn’t get a turn with her, aren’t you?" Brother Chuan wrapped an arm around his neck, "Come on, I’ll treat you. Let’s find a place to get a good massage, vent some frustration!"
The two men shared a look and a smile, then turned and walked toward the direction of the van.
Moments later, the van vanished into the misty rain.
