Chapter 1807: Satellites in the Cold (Part 1)

The rest of the world was suffering similar fates. Of course, as always, it had been relatively less harsh for those in the Alterra region.

After all, every territory within it was connected, either directly to Alterra, or to its associates.

This meant that they could take advantage of the system center to quickly pass news and instructions. For example, when the extreme cold was predicted, Althea simply had to send messages to the Lords of the allied and subsidiary territories.

Although only a couple of days before the actual event was given, everyone had been preparing for an extreme weather condition (whichever direction it went) for months, since it was something that always happened every one or two years.

Every territory had its respective tunnel systems, and every territory had stocked a little bit of insulating materials, which were bought from the Specialty Store batch by batch months prior to the actual disaster.

The amount they could actually buy and stockpile was not much, especially in the villages, but the tunnels and cellars were definitely helpful for extreme heat and extreme cold.

It was how, despite the weather being stable for most of the year, the factory in charge of insulating materials never actually had a ’lull’ period. It was always producing, and it always had bulk buyers.

The satellites, on the other hand, as places without Lords, were a little more cumbersome to send instructions to. For instance, Althea had to go to the warehouse and then send the instructions either by letter or by localized system announcements.

On the bright side, because they shared a warehouse with the main territory, they did not lack resources. The two satellites, in fact, had the most stable tunnels and cellars, and both territories even had their own greenhouses using glass.

They had ordered massive amounts of glass, heating tools, seed orders, and the like, and this had been consistent for several months, so even if the orders could not be too massive at a time, the accumulated amount was very, very big.

Other than these, people stockpiled linen, cotton, food with long shelf-life, and so on, even if there was less need for it at the time. Rather than save up money in their wallets, the Lords (and their citizens) choose to buy many things they might not necessarily need yet, because they had been traumatized by the previous Extreme Heat.

As one could see, the preparation of various territories allowed Alterra’s various industries to remain at their peak regardless of whether there was an event or not.

This also meant taxes and a huge amount of income for Alterra.

It was in those moments that people could see the many advantages of why Alterra invested so much money in unifying the region.

It expanded the market to an unbelievable degree.

The reunification was not just to save their people, the Terrans, but even the aborigines could now see that it truly made the economy run its best no matter what, pushing money-making to a whole new level.

But while he did have some complaints (mostly in the world that had this ice age in the first place) due to the discomfort, he did his job diligently.

Fortunately, each guard had their own heat packs and warming devices, and their coats were quite insulated, so while there was the extreme cold discomfort, especially on the parts of their faces exposed to the wind, no one allowed to make rounds (people above level 14) would be fainting from the chills even after several hours outside.

In these cases, though, he quite missed Alterra the most. He could bet most people were drinking their hot cocoa at home! Their stocks here were limited, and much of it had already been consumed in the past two weeks! He was having withdrawals!

Unfortunately, they could not request materials at this point as Alterra’s production line was also limited. Their own people were definitely the priority for purchase, especially for things that were considered to be luxury items.

Sigh.

Still, despite the nostalgia, he ended up smiling in the end, remembering the beauty he had at home.

Ultimately, he was thankful to have been transferred here. Why? Because here in the Iron Mountains, he finally met the love of his life!

And it was even culminated during the cold, so despite his suffering, he would definitely remember the Extreme Cold quite fondly in the future. He-he.
