The first one was called the [Token of Anonymity], which had been inspired by the Anti-slavery token from Oslo and the Concealer tool sent by Prague.
It allowed the holder to bypass the system and not let it register their names, at least their real ones.
This token would be able towards hide her name, her wealth, her ability, and her titles from the sight of the Lord, even if they stared at the Lord Panel upon her entry.
They tested this easily when she got someone from her circle to hold it, and she looked at her own Lord Panel.
It was quite good and fascinating.
The catch was that one had to spend aether to make it work continuously. So if one had to stay hidden, they had to continuously feed aether onto it.
One way towards create it work forever was to embed something like an aether crystal or whatever, but obviously, that wasn’t something that they could use, so it would remain a limitation for now.
They do have a team exploring the use of the nuclear cores, found in the undead. It was a different power source from aether, but in theory, it could be possible to use aether as the trigger—as the on/off switch—and then switch to the other power source to maintain it.
How that would actually be executed, however, was still up for study.
Another concern would be that if they wanted something relatively permanent without them continuously putting aether—even if the nuclear theory worked—was that they had to register something, whether it was a fake set of information or not.
It was like the information to be anchored on. If one were to make a metaphor, in was like the Baseline in Coding linggo, which was the reference line or standard that everything aligned to.
Such was the next problem. The next goal was to set up what they wanted it to display. As it was now, the person holding it simply wouldn’t show anything, which wasn’t exactly unsuspicious.
What if they made interactions and somehow the Lord was involved. Wouldn’t they be suspicious not to see their names there at all? They couldn’t have spies everywhere they could pretend to be.
And so, the next phase for the development of version 2 had begun, running parallel to the alternative-energy-battery research, which was ’programming’ of information they had to plant.
In her case, she wanted to register herself as a normal person without the Lord status, but not too weak either.
She wanted to show only one element, one profession (having two and above was still definitely abnormal, even among Terrans), and also had a fixed amount of gold.
She reckoned that if a Lord saw how much she had in her wallet, they would hunt her down with all their gusto. Even if they didn’t, this would put her in various disadvantages even if it was a basic trade. She wouldn’t be able to haggle at all.
When this was perfected, it would not only allow her, the Lord, to travel around, but it would also be immensely helpful to their spies.
Speaking of which, the whole fire plague cure really spiked up her prestige a lot. Thankfully, thankfully, the next level was very high. At this rate, it should still take her a few more years before she’d be forced to upgrade.
Of course, this was still very fast. Historically, the jump from Tier 2 to Tier 3 of Town level took decades, if not hundreds, of years. Their actions during the fire plague essentially cut down all those years.
She was glad she didn’t have to wait her whole life to upgrade, and a few years should be enough to develop more, but she’d still delay things when she could.
After all, the feeling of stability and invincibility was automatically thrown away once they upgraded, entering a whole new set of challenges they might not be ready for.
So...she hoped she could travel around within these few years, at least before they upgraded.
"We’ll travel within a few years," she said, touching his chin. "When the babies have already grown a bit."
They were naturally not planning on traveling too far away while the children were young. She’d probably travel around the region, and maybe some other nearby towns.
However, she still couldn’t help but think of the ideal.
Maybe the children could come with her, and they’d go on a vacation.
