**Clocks Lie To Hearts by Asa River Flint**
**Chapter 15**
As Louisa stood before George, she wore a mask of calmness that belied the storm brewing inside her. She could feel the tension radiating from him, a palpable anger that threatened to engulf them both.
For a fleeting moment, she considered telling him that she had already severed ties with the Capulet Group, that her professional life was no longer any of his concern. But as the thought crossed her mind, she recalled that Julian hadn’t pressed her to start immediately.
Just twenty-five more days, she reminded herself. Twenty-five days until the divorce was finalized, and then she and George would be free from each other’s grasp. There was no need to justify her decisions to him.
With a steady nod, she asserted, “I know exactly what I’m doing.”
“Louisa!” His voice sliced through the air, sharp and unforgiving. He gritted his teeth, his gaze piercing into her. “What game are you playing? Have you forgotten that you’re still part of the Capulet Group?”
“I know that I’ve resigned from the Capulet Group,” she replied, her voice steady despite the storm brewing in George’s eyes.
He struggled to contain his fury, his glare intensifying. “You’re doing this just to get under my skin, aren’t you?”
A laugh almost escaped her lips. How did George muster such bravado? After seven long years of marriage and collaboration, he still failed to grasp that she never intertwined personal emotions with her work obligations.
“I’m done arguing with you,” she declared, her patience waning. “Think whatever you want.”
With that, she turned to ascend the stairs, seeking refuge from the confrontation.
But George was relentless. In a swift, impulsive motion, he seized her wrist, his grip firm and demanding. “Tell me, what’s happening between you and Julian?”
The moment the name slipped from his lips, a vivid image flashed through his mind—the day at the golf club, when he had spotted a figure that resembled Louisa standing with Julian. A surge of anger ignited within him. “You’ve been with him all along, haven’t you?”
Louisa spun around, her eyes blazing with defiance. “George, don’t assume everyone is as despicable as you are. There’s nothing between Mr. Tudor and me, and he’s nothing like you!”
Her words struck a nerve, igniting a firestorm within him. He raised his hand, poised as if to strike her.
But Louisa met his gaze with unwavering intensity, her eyes aflame yet unyielding, unafraid of the threat he posed.
Her fierce demeanor only fueled George’s rage further. He lowered his hand, abandoning the thought of violence, and instead pulled her close, capturing her lips in a fierce kiss.
Caught off guard, Louisa fought against him, desperation coursing through her as she struggled to break free. Yet, the more she resisted, the more he pressed in, as if he sought to engulf her entirely.
This was a treatment she had never endured before, and in her fury, she bit down on his lip with a ferocity that surprised even herself. The metallic taste of blood mingled between them, a stark reminder of the tumultuous emotions swirling around them.
Finally, he released her, his eyes ablaze with fury and disbelief. “So that’s why you suddenly demanded a divorce. You’ve been with Julian all along, haven’t you? Let me make this clear, Louisa—there’s no way in hell I’m allowing you to leave! Even if you’ve been with him, I won’t agree to a divorce!”
How twisted was it that he, the one who had betrayed her, was now attempting to shift the blame onto her?
In a moment of pure rage, Louisa slapped him hard across the face. “George, you bastard!”
Sadie, ever the voice of reason, disregarded Flora’s outburst. “If you don’t want to endure the cooling-off period, the only option is to file for divorce. However, given George’s current attitude, he’s unlikely to agree, and the court may not view the marriage as irreparably broken, which means they might not support your case. So that route might not be viable.”
Louisa sighed, the weight of her situation pressing down on her. “So I’m left with no choice but to wait?”
Sadie, though reluctant to admit it, confirmed, “Yes, that seems to be the only option. But we can brainstorm alternatives. Just try to steer clear of that jerk for a while.”
Flora, ever the optimist, chimed in with enthusiasm. “Let’s go on a trip! Louisa, haven’t you always wanted to visit Snowlandia? The three of us can have an amazing time for over twenty days. What do you say?”
Sadie nodded in agreement. “Great idea! You two can head out, and I’ll join you after I wrap up my work commitments.”
Louisa felt a flicker of hope at the suggestion.
The trio began to plan, booking flights and making arrangements, determined to leave behind their troubles, if only for a little while.
Meanwhile, George, still simmering with rage, drove recklessly to the office. Once he arrived, he coldly confronted Jared. “What did you uncover about Louisa and Julian?”
Jared, following George into the office, handed over the information he had gathered. “Mr. Capulet, I discovered that Mrs. Capulet and Julian met three times. The first was at Dreamscape Club, where she had a stomach issue, and Julian took her to the hospital but left before she regained consciousness. The second encounter was at the golf club; we couldn’t ascertain their conversation, but it was brief, and they didn’t seem to avoid others, so it likely wasn’t anything inappropriate. The third meeting was yesterday at Fortune Tower.”
So, Louisa had been truthful. There was nothing untoward between her and Julian.
The realization only fueled his anger further.
