Louisa was speechless.

She glared at Sadie. Julian was right there–what nonsense was she spouting?

Louisa nearly lost it. Sadie was clearly insane, but Julian was actually entertaining this madness?

Sadie was equally stunned that Julian had agreed to her heat–of–the–moment suggestion.

She immediately perked up. “See? Even Mr. Tudor agrees. My plan is totally workable!*

Julian nodded. “The plan could work, but some people are too chicken to try it.” As he spoke, he cast a fleeting glance at Louisa.

Louisa wanted to bury her face in her bowl. Couldn’t they just stop talking?

Julian caught her mortified expression and let out a smug chuckle before standing up and heading to his study.

Only then did Louisa lift her head, exchanging a look with Sadie. Time to bolt.

Years of best–friend telepathy kicked in–they stood simultaneously, said goodbye to Bob together, and made a hasty exit.

Back at her place, Louisa felt like she couldn’t breathe.

She grabbed Sadie and started smacking her. “What the hell was that? He’s my boss at work and my neighbor at home–we see each othe constantly! Do you know how awkward you’ve made things?”

Sadie dodged her attacks, begging for mercy. “I didn’t think it through! It just popped into my head. How was 1 supposed to know he’d actually agree?”

Louisa let out a cold laugh. “You, a lawyer, didn’t think things through before speaking? Do you honestly expect me to believe that?

Sadie fell silent. She couldn’t even convince herself of that lie. She’d done it deliberately, wanting to see if Julian was serious about marrying her friend or just playing around.

Louisa was done with the conversation. She went to shower and get ready for bed.

Sadie lived just one floor below, but instead of going home, she ended up crawling into Louisa’s bed. The best friends hadn’t properly talked in days

Adopting a more serious tone, Sadie asked, “Louisa, be honest. George is marrying Vivian–do you really feel nothing about it? It h a ten–year relationship, after all.”

Louisa was quiet for a moment. “Of course I feel something. Disgust.”

Sadie smiled. “Good. That’s all I needed to hear.”

Later, when Louisa was almost asleep, Sadie whispered in her ear, “So, Mr. Tudor is quite the catch. You’re seriously not even a little tempted?”

Louisa fell silent again. Her mind involuntarily drifted to last night’s deep, lingering kiss… She couldn’t deny she’d gotten caught up the moment.

But what did it matter? Even a family like the Capulets wouldn’t accept her background, let alone Julian’s ultra–elite circle.

Besides, she was genuinely scared. One romance had nearly killed her. Could she survive another?

Watching Louisa’s silent contemplation, Sadie seemed to understand. “Mr. Tudor was right. You are a coward.”

Confused about what was happening, Louisa followed the crowd toward the conference room.

At the entrance, she discovered Teddy was conducting the meeting. Everyone took their places.

Teresa stood at her usual spot but didn’t sit down immediately. She politely offered, “Mr. Young, please take my seat.”

“That’s kind of you, Ms. Hughes, but I’m just here to announce a personnel change. I won’t be staying. Please, sit.” Despite being the CEO’s assistant, he didn’t put on airs, gesturing courteously for Teresa to sit.

Teresa had no choice but to comply.
