After the Affair Falling into a Billionaire's Arms novel Chapter 571

Chapter 571

Rachel’s expression shifted

Jeffrey noticed her pale face and frowned instinctively.

He seemed about to approach her, but Rachel quickly moved closer to Sadie and struck up a conversation.

No one else noticed anything unusual.

Julian asked, “Where’s Dad?”

Jeffrey said, “Something came up. He’s not coming.”

Julian’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Then why are you here?”

Jeffrey said, “My surgery got postponed, so I came with Mom.”

Julian didn’t respond.

After resting for a few minutes, the group prepared to board the cable cars.

Amelia sidled up to Julian and whispered, “Julian, we still have to hike after we get to the church. In this heat, Mom’s going to struggle.”

Julian said, “I think you’re the one who’ll struggle.”

Amelia protested, “Not true.”

Noah chimed in cheerfully, “Don’t worry. If anyone gets tired, I’ll carry you.”

Everyone else: So this guy’s not even human, huh?

The group split up to board the cable cars.

Each car could only fit three people.

Adeline was terrified of heights. Just looking at the tiny cable cars overhead made her legs go weak. She clutched both her sons

tightly-Julian on one side, Jonathan on the other.

Julian sighed and resigned himself to riding with them. Then he started assigning the others. “Sadie, Flora, Amelia-you three take one. Louisa, Alicia, Noah-you three. Ms. Santos, you and-

Before he could finish, Rachel quickly moved to Louisa’s side. I’ll go with Louisa.”

Chapter 571

Everyone turned to look at Rachel:

t was just a cable car ride-ten minutes at most. There was no need to be picky about who sat with whomic

Still, no one said anything.

Only Jeffrey’s eyes flickered with disappointment.

Julian accepted it. All right, Louisa, Alicia, and Ms. Santos, Jeffrey, you take fustin and Noah.”

No one objected.

Once they were seated in the cable car, Louisa and Alicia both gave Rachel identical knowing looks.

Rachel asked, “Why are you staring at me?”

Louisa said, “Spill it. What’s going on with you?”

Alicia said, “Ms. Santos, do you know my second brother?”

When Julian had been assigning groups, only Jeffrey and Justin had been left.

Rachel obviously wasn’t avoiding a little kid like Justin. By process of elimination, that left only Jeffrey.

And if Alicia had noticed, Louisa had too.

Louisa’s eyes lit up with understanding. “So that’s why you called me earlier. You were fishing for information. If Julian had said

Jeffrey was coming, you would’ve bailed, wouldn’t you?”

Rachel, cornered, didn’t know what to say. She was on the verge of confessing when she spotted something behind them. “Louisa,

look! Who’s that back there?”

Louisa didn’t turn around. She smiled warmly at Rachel. “Rachel, don’t change the subject.”

Who else could it be but George?

But Alicia did glance back. “That woman looks kind of familiar.”

Woman?

What woman?

There were twelve of them total. The other three groups were ahead, and theirs was the last car.

Curious, Louisa turned around-and what she saw sent a chill down her spine.

Chapter 571

Lorelei

What was she doing here?

And Lorelei had boarded the cable car behind them.

Sensing their gaze, Lorelei looked over. Her face registered fake surprise, then she smiled and waved at Louisa.

She looked gentle and kind-impossible to connect with a demon.

Louisa returned an equally fake smile, then turned back around. The smile vanished instantly.

Alicia also turned back and asked, “You know that woman?”

Louisa said, “That’s Mrs. Getty.”

Alicia’s eyes widened. “Oh! Mr. Getty’s wife. I met her a few years ago when Mom and I visited Sunrise City. That’s why she looked familiar.”

Then she asked, “You don’t seem to like Mrs. Getty very much.”

She’d seen Louisa’s smile disappear.

Louisa said, “You’ve got sharp eyes. I won’t hide it-Mrs. Getty and I had a little run-in before.”

She didn’t elaborate.

Alicia nodded knowingly. “I see.”

She didn’t press further.

But Louisa had a feeling Alicia was thinking more than she let on.

After all, this was the sharpest of the Tudor siblings aside from Julian. She wasn’t easy to fool.

Not that Louisa cared.

The mountain wasn’t particularly steep, and the cable car didn’t hang terrifyingly high above the ground.

But the forest was dense this time of year. Looking down at the endless expanse of green was still a little unnerving-

Fifteen minutes later.

The cable car arrived at the platform.

This wasn’t the summit, but they’d gone deep into the mountain-somewhere around mid-elevation.

Chapter 571

The group disembarked one by one.

Julian stood at the front, waiting for Louisa

He’d assumed George would be right behind them.

Instead, he saw someone completely unexpected.

Lorelei.

His gaze turned razor-sharp, cold as a blade.

Meanwhile, George was still at the base of the mountain.

He hadn’t planned to go up.

The church blessing wouldn’t take long anyway. He’d wait down here and talk to Louisa when she came back down.

Then he saw Lorelei.

His expression darkened. Is that old witch planning to go after Louisa again for the sake of her idiot daughter?

At the cable car platform.

Lorelei had disembarked.

She took in the varied reactions of the twelve people before her, then walked gracefully toward Adeline with a warm smile. “Adeline,

it’s been so long.”
