Louisa didn’t waste time pondering these questions. She collected the materials from the archives, found a quiet spot in the department, and began categorizing the projects by type while checking her phone.

She’d previously blocked George, but he kept calling from different numbers, so persistently that she had to switch to airplane mode.

She glanced at her missed calls–over a hundred. The man had determination, she’d give him that.

The group chat with her girlfriends had quieted down now that Sadie had successfully met with George.

At the Capulet Group headquarters, in the CEO’s office, Sadie and George sat face to face.

George still looked unwell, but he had made an effort to appear professional. Dressed in a dark brown suit with perfectly styled hair and a clean–shaven face, he sat with his long legs crossed, emanating a suppressed, gloomy aura.

It was hard to believe this was the same man who had been so devastated and sobbing just days ago.

Sadie let out a cold laugh, her tone dripped with sarcasm. “Mr. Capulet, I thought you would need more time to recover from losing your wife. Surprising how quickly you’ve pulled yourself together after just two days.”

Not wanting to waste time, she pushed the divorce agreement across the table. “Since you’ve calmed down, let’s complete the necessary procedures and go our separate ways.”

George’s expression remained neutral, but the divorce papers clearly stung his eyes. He picked them up and turned the pages one by one, neither rushing nor lingering. It was impossible to tell if he was actually reading them.

When he reached the final page and saw his signature, his hand trembled slightly.

He remembered that night. He’d returned late from a business trip to Europe. She was still awake and had given him two documents to sign. She’d been so calm that day.

With Vivian constantly messaging him, his mind had been elsewhere. He hadn’t even questioned the documents before signing them.

“Do you remember what day that was?” Sadie suddenly asked.

George remained silent, staring at the date by his signature: July 17th. Her birthday.

His heart felt like it had been crushed by a massive stone. The pain made it hard to breathe.

Ignoring his pained expression, Sadie continued coldly, “The cooling–off period has passed. Louisa has scheduled the divorce proceedings for the 24th. Once completed, your marriage will officially end.

‘Does it matter now? Sadie replied coldly, “You thought you were hiding it well, but you underestimated a woman’s intuition. How could

she not notice when you stopped loving her?”

Her words completely devastated George. Red–eyed, he looked at her. “I never stopped loving her.”

“Never stopped?” Sadie laughed bitterly. “George, are you seriously claiming you still love her? You cheated, dated Vivian, went on vacations, booked hotel rooms, had sex with her–is that how you show love to Louisa?

“When you married her, you promised to take her to Snowlandia to see the seagulls when you had time. She waited seven years, and you

never found the time.

“But did you really not have time? You told her you were on business trips while you were vacationing with your mistress. You think she didn’t know? I’m telling you, George–she knew everything.

“When she first found out, she couldn’t sleep for nights on end. She couldn’t understand how the man who once loved her so much could suddenly stop. She even developed depression and needed medication just to fall asleep.”

Sadie shouted the last sentence, leaving George pale–faced.

In his memories, Louisa had always been calm, smiling, as if nothing was wrong. He shook his head in disbelief. “I don’t believe it. I don’t

believe it.”

Depression. Insomnia. He couldn’t connect these with the woman he knew.

“Of course you don’t believe it,” Sadie continued. “You’ll never know what she went through. Flora and I were afraid she might… might commit suicide. We took turns watching over her.

“She forced herself to appear strong for our sake. She went to work without crying or making a scene because she didn’t want us to worry.

“George, do you remember how you won her over? You pursued her for an entire year before she agreed to be with you.

“The day she decided to be with you, she told me she was committing for life. That’s why she defied her father, agreed to a secret marriage for your sake, signed that damn prenup, and worked tirelessly to bring clients and resources to your company.

*She worked herself to exhaustion, even drinking until her stomach bled, never complaining about the pain. She wanted to prove to your parents that even without family connections or background, she could be your greatest support.

“She loved you with everything she had. And what did you do? You wounded her deeply and then told her in the cruelest way that you

didn’t love her anymore.”

Sadie grew increasingly emotional as she spoke, her eyes welling with tears as she recalled that terrible period.

She closed her eyes tightly and lowered her voice. “George, do you know why she chose her birthday to divorce you?”

George’s throat tightened as he looked at her. “Why?”
