Chapter 47 A Helping Hand
“You’re misunderstanding me.”
“You can’t stand me that much?“.
Iris stared at him, speechless. She opened her mouth, but didn’t know what to say.
Julian pressed. “You really want me to move out that bad”
Iris sighed. “I’m just worried you’ll get tired, driving back and forth every day.”
“I have a driver.” Julian replied calmly. “I just don’t like other people driving my car.”
“Your parents‘ Rosehill Estate is close to your company. You could consider…”
Julian cut her off sharply again. “You still want to kick me out.”

Talk about being ungrateful. Iris forced an awkward smile. This is your home. Why would I kick you out?”
Julian shot back. “It’s your home too.”

Iris’s heart skipped a beat. A warm, indescribable feeling surged through her. He was right, but when he said it, those words felt so heavy. They gave her wandering heart a sense of belonging, at long last.
She was stuck for words, staring at him blankly.
Julian stood up. “You do the dishes. I’m gonna go take a shower, then drop you off at the research institute.”
Iris blurted out, “No need. It’s a ten–minute walk to the institute.”
“Saving you a few extra minutes–isn’t that better?”
He had a point.
Iris nodded, agreeing silently.
Still, Julian was such a neat freak. He’d already showered last night. All he’d done this morning was make breakfast, and he was showering again.
What a hassle!

Julian dropped Iris off at the research institute. Instead of heading straight to the office, he went to Ethan’s
fruit store.
It was early, and there were no customers.
The small, 220–square–foot store was packed with all kinds of fruits, neatly arranged. The prices were low to mid–range, meant for high sales, Ethan was sorting through a pile of oranges, picking out the bad ones.

Ethan turned around. When he saw Julian walking in, dressed in a suit, he quickly put down what he was holding and greeted him warmly. “Julian! What brings you here?”
“I was doing some work nearby, so I stopped by to check on you.”
Ethan rushed to get a chair from behind the cash register. “Sit down! I’ll make you some coffee.”
Julian grabbed his arm. “No need. I just had some. You sir too. I need to talk to you about something.”
Ethan nodded honestly, pulled out another chair, and sat across from Julian. He looked a little guilty. “I’m so sorry about last night. We kept you up late, and you had to see us make a fool of ourselves.”
Julian stayed calm. “We’re family. No need to be so formal.”
Ethan pursed his lips, sighed, and nodded.
“How are Keith, Grace and Emily?” Julian asked, concerned.
Ethan shook his head. “Not good. Mom was so mad last night she didn’t sleep a wink. She’s sick today, and Dad’s at home taking care of her.
“Emily? She’s heartless. Even after getting scammed out of two million, she’s eating and sleeping like nothing happened. All the pressure’s on me. She has no idea how serious this is. She spent the whole night complaining about Iris…”
Ethan realized he’d said too much and stopped abruptly
Julian stayed quiet, not responding.
Ethan quickly patted his chest. “I’m a man of my word. I remember every bit of help Iris’s given me. As soon as I make money, I’ll pay her back. I’ll never take advantage of her. I can earn money now, and I’ll never ask her for money. You have my word.”
Julian smiled softly, patting his shoulder to comfort him “Iris earned her own money. She has the right to spend it however she wants. It’s none of my business.”
“I know that, but she’s married now. She shouldn’t be so focused on us.”
Julian looked at Ethan’s honest, simple face. His eyes held a naive loyalty.
Education and ability both matter. It’s hard for people to earn money beyond what they know.
