Gregory still remembered how furious Mr. Hanson had been when he reported on Ms. Jensen’s situation a couple of days back.
Mr. Hanson had even said, “Did you forget everything I told
you before?”
“If you can’t handle being my assistant, then just quit.”
But now, look at him–after all that talk, he’s been secretly taking care of everything himself.
“Wasn’t me,” Jeffrey replied, coolly leaning back in his chair, eyes so dark and unreadable you couldn’t tell what he was really thinking.
“Then who did it?” Gregory was baffled, then suddenly had a wild thought. “Don’t tell me it’s one of Ms. Jensen’s suitors?”
Jeffrey’s eyes narrowed, growing even more intense and unreadable.
He pressed his lips into a thin line, keeping silent.
“If you don’t make your move soon, Ms. Jensen might end up with someone else,” Gregory said, sounding even more anxious. “Now that she’s been publicly revealed as the newly returned princess of the Quinn and Guzman families, don’t you think there’ll be a whole army of suitors chasing after her?”
Of course, there would be.
Jeffrey knew it all too well.
Those guys aren’t interested in Rebecca herself, it’s all about her family connections. They just want to get close to her, squeeze into the Quinn and Guzman families, and join The Big Four Families.
“If someone actually liked her for real, that’d be fine,” Gregory broke it down for him, speaking slowly. “But you know how it is–most of the guys chasing after her now don’t care about Rebecca herself. They’re just in it for the perks and connections she brings.”
Jeffrey just kept quiet, brooding in silence,
Gregory went on, “Do you really want Ms. Jensen to get stuck with some guy who’s only thinking about his own gain and chasing her just because of her family connections?”
“She’s not walking down the aisle again anytime soon,” Jeffrey murmured, maybe to Gregory, maybe just to himself. “With Amelia by her side, none of those guys will ever get the chance to mess with her.”
It was not just Amelia. There was Sebastian and Mr. Guzman, too.
‘None of them would ever just stand by and watch Rebecca end up with some opportunist looking to climb the social ladder.
“Yeah, that’s true, but you know how it goes–when someone’s got their mind set, there’s no stopping them,”

Gregory said, throwing out every argument he could. “If Ms. Jensen really falls for someone, honestly, I doubt Amelia would get in the way.”
Jeffrey was speechless, just giving Gregory a silent look.
Gregory said with a shrug, “Honestly, tying the knot isn’t even the worst thing that could happen.”
Jeffrey gave him a puzzled stare.
‘Seriously? What on earth could be worse than getting married?‘ Jeffrey wondered, a bit grim.
“Honestly, if Ms. Jensen starts dating some boy toy in his early twenties, now that would be a train wreck,” Gregory said, totally deadpan. “Those guys are young, bursting with energy, and they’re masters at flirting and sweet–talking…”
“Did you finish what I asked you to do?” Jeffrey’s voice was so cold you could feel the chill in the air.
Gregory paused for a second.
“Wait, what was I supposed to do again?‘ Gregory thought, suddenly drawing a blank.
Jeffrey reminded him icily, “Back to work tomorrow.”
“I’m on it,” Gregory replied, clamming up fast, knowing there was no point in arguing with Jeffrey anymore. “Hit me up if you need anything.”
As soon as Gregory left, Jeffrey opened Rebecca’s chat.
After a long pause, he thought it over.
Finally, he sent her a message: [Need a hand?]
He started to type another message: [If you ever need anything… even though we’re divorced, I—]
But before he could finish, Rebecca replied, ice–cold: [No need.]
Then another message popped up: [Just keep your word, Jeffrey.]
Just like that, those two lines shot down every bit of courage he’d managed to scrape together. His fingers paused on the screen, hesitating for ages before he finally typed back: [Okay.]
From that moment on, Rebecca and Jeffrey never got in touch again.
They didn’t send each other a single message, both of them tacitly choosing to cut off all contact for good.
Meanwhile, Liam went straight home and told Michael all about his chat with Jeffrey. But knowing Jeffrey’s status and how he operated, Michael didn’t dare mess with him directly.
Even as the head of the Quinn family, Michael knew full well he was no match for Jeffrey.
Max could probably hold his own, but he’d never get involved in something like this.

“Let’s just go along with what he said for now,” Michael said, his voice heavy with thought. “Call off all actions targeting Rebecca.”
Liam grumbled, not hiding his frustration. “We’re really just gonna stand by and let her finish the job?”
“Even without us interfering, Rebecca’s got a rough road ahead if she wants to snag that project,” Michael said. “Don’t forget, her takeover of the company hasn’t been made public. To everyone else, she’s just an out–of- the–blue boss dropped into the job.”
No real backup from the Quinn family, and nothing from the Guzman family either.
Sure, the insiders might be clued in, but to the outside world, Rebecca’s just another run–of–the–mill boss.
Liam thought about it for a moment and realized Michael was right.
“If she wants to land that project, she’ll have to wine and dine those guys ahead of time and fish for some intel,” Michael said knowingly. “But everyone knows what those people are like. With the way Rebecca is–her attitude and her looks–she doesn’t stand a chance.”
Sure, it’s a public tender, but everyone knows the real game is in the dinners and networking before the bidding even starts.
Schmoozing over meals and making yourself known has pretty much become standard practice in this industry.
Rebecca’s got pretty much the same personality as Amelia—she can’t take any of the teasing and casual banter you hear at those business dinners. Honestly, there’s no way she’s getting through this challenge the company’s thrown at her.
“But what if she actually manages to pull it off?” Liam muttered, still feeling uneasy.
She’s Jeffrey’s ex–wife and Amelia’s daughter.
Even if she didn’t get all the fancy training growing up, she’s lived in that world her whole life. There’s no way she’s a complete loser.
“Three million in profit? One project won’t be enough,” Michael said, already scheming. “She’ll need to seal at least two or three deals. But there’s no way she’ll nail them all in one go.”
Liam paused, turning Michael’s words over in his mind.
Michael’s mind was working overtime, plotting every angle. “Even if she somehow clinches all the deals in one shot, those projects still have to jump through a ton of approval hoops–signatures from all sorts of people. Lots of spots to pull some strings or toss obstacles in her way. We’ve got time; no need to rush things.”
“Yeah, that makes sense,” Liam admitted, finally convinced by Michael’s reasoning.
Jeffrey had just laid down the law, and now was definitely not the time to cross him.
They decided to take their time and plan things out, making sure he wouldn’t suspect a thing.

Over the next few weeks, Rebecca officially stepped in and started calling the shots at Meditech as its new
boss.
When Rebecca parachuted in as the new boss at Meditech, everyone was pretty suspicious. Some stared at her -gorgeous but almost too pretty to be taken seriously—and actually, two team leaders quit on the spot, thinking she’d never be able to hold her ground.
Rebecca did her best to persuade them, stuck to all the official processes—reassuring them their salaries would come as usual and hoping they’d stay to get through the tough times together as a team.
But in the end, the two of them still chose to quit.
As for everyone else, they were just keeping their options open–one whiff of trouble, and they’d be out the door in a heartbeat.
Thankfully, Rebecca proved everyone wrong. In just one month, she clinched the company’s very first big deal. Once all the paperwork cleared and the project got the green light, she didn’t waste a second–brir the signed contract straight back to the team.
As soon as she walked in, every eye in the room was on her.
One of the team members asked, testing the waters, “Boss, did you get the deal signed?”
Rebecca broke into a smile.
The girl couldn’t hold back her excitement. “Is it signed?!”
“Yep,” Rebecca replied, pulling the contract from her bag and glancing around at the whole team. “Starting today, it’s time for us to roll up our sleeves–I’m counting on everyone to give it their best shot.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than the whole office went wild.
Everyone was cheering like crazy.
“That’s amazing!”
“Finally, we don’t have to freak out about the company closing down!”
“Who was it that thought our boss couldn’t cut it just because she’s a woman?” someone called out, not holding back. “Come on, own up and apologize!”
“That was me!” The guy in the button–up shirt suddenly stood up, locking eyes with Rebecca–he looked both thrilled and kinda embarrassed. “Boss, I’m honestly sorry. I totally misjudged you ‘cause you’re a woman. I was just being narrow–minded, and I want to apologize for that, right here and now.”
“I’m really sorry, boss!” he said again, looking dead serious.
And you could just tell–he truly meant every word.
