Chapter 102 The Truth Closes In

Finished

With one finger, Raymond casually knocked the director’s nameplate off the desk. It hit the floor with a sharp clack. He looked at Hillary.

“I heard he didn’t get that position honestly. Pulled some strings to get there. You knew about that?”

Hillary’s eyes flickered. She tried to keep her voice steady, but it still shook. “I… I didn’t know…”

Raymond let out a quiet scoff and stared straight at her.

“For years, he’s been making illegal money. Overprescribing drugs, taking huge kickbacks, exaggerating illnesses, even making up diagnoses just to get gifts and cash. No ethics at all. And that director position? Who knows how he really got it.”

A thin layer of sweat formed on Hillary’s forehead. Did Raymond find out something?

Her nails dug into her palm. Her head buzzed. Then she heard him continue.

“On top of that, he’s involved in something much worse…”

Raymond smiled slightly and looked at her. Hillary felt a chill run down her spine. “W-what?”

“Organ trafficking.”

The words hit her like a hammer. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

This time, Raymond didn’t help her up. He just kept talking, his tone calm.

“This isn’t something you walk away from with a short prison sentence. People get the death penalty for this. What I don’t know was who’s backing him.”

He paused, then added softly, “Hillary, when I first heard all this, I was shocked. Not about him—about you. You’ve been treated by him for years. You’re lucky you made it out alive.”

Hillary’s heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst. She had no idea the doctor was involved in so many shady things.

But she had helped him get that position, asking her father to pull some strings. If this came back to her, would she go to prison too?

Her voice trembled. “Raymond, h-how did you find out about this?”

Raymond’s voice dropped, cold and heavy. “Oh, I know a lot more than that, Hillary.”

She flinched under the pressure of his gaze.

“All these years, your treatment was arranged at the highest level. I paid for everything in advance,” he continued. “But somehow, there are still large transfers from your account to his.”

He looked at her sharply. “Why?”

Hillary’s mind raced. “I… I just thought he treated me well. Everything was taken care of. So I sent him some money as a thank-you. That’s all. I didn’t know he was that kind of person, Raymond.”

Raymond narrowed his eyes, a cold edge in his voice. “Hillary… are you still not telling the truth?”

“Raymond, I really didn’t know!” she said quickly. “We’ve been together so long-you know what kind of person I am.”

Raymond let out a low chuckle. “I was actually planning to help you. But anyone connected to him is going to prison. You understand what I mean, right?”

At this point, Hillary understood what Raymond meant. There was no point pretending anymore. If she kept playing dumb, she might get dragged down with it—and end up in jail.

She immediately changed her tone.

“I’m sorry, Raymond. It was me. I’ll tell you everything. I helped him get the head doctor position. But… he asked me for help first. I only sent him money because I thought he did a good job treating patients. Really. That’s all, Raymond…”

Raymond looked at her. “What about Agnes? Did you have someone go after her too?”

Hillary’s heart dropped.

Her body went stiff, like she’d been struck by lightning.

She forced herself to stay calm. “Raymond, what are you talking about? Agnes? What does that have to do with me? I even went to see her today. I haven’t seen her in a long time.”

“Wasn’t Lucy working for you?” Raymond asked.

“Lucy? “What, Lucy?” Hillary said quickly. “Raymond, who have you been listening to? Why would you suspect me?”

Her eyes suddenly turned red, and tears began to fall. She looked deeply wronged.

She was panicked inside.

How did Raymond even know about Lucy?

That idiot must have been recognized at the school that day. Maybe her disguise wasn’t good enough.

Still, Hillary had personally sent her away. Even if Raymond heard something, he shouldn’t have proof.

“I really don’t know her,” Hillary said, crying harder. “Raymond, please believe me. No matter what you’ve heard about me, it’s all lies. I didn’t do anything. Yes, Agnes and I have had some issues, but I would never go that far. I would never try to kill her!”

Raymond didn’t react to her tears.
