Love After Leaving: No Regret

Chapter 162 Hidden Threads of the Past

Raymond’s gaze was sharp, like a blade. If Agnes hadn’t been standing between them, he would have already taught Neal a hard lesson.

“Neal,” Raymond said coldly, “you know she’s married, and you still go after her? Are you asking for trouble?”

Neal didn’t back down. “From college until now, I’ve never thought I was worse than you. You just got lucky-you won her heart first. But you didn’t cherish it. You don’t deserve her love. And let me be clear, I won’t stand by and do nothing anymore.”

The tension between them snapped tight. It looked like they might start fighting at any second.

“Enough,” Agnes cut in quickly. She turned to Raymond. “Did you come here just to take me back? Why do you say it’s not safe here? Did something happen?”

The anger in Raymond’s eyes slowly faded. He looked straight at her.

“I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t want you to worry. But things are getting serious. You have to come with me. Stay close to me,” he said. “Harvey’s people are looking for you. I know you’ve already uncovered a lot about him. You understand what that means.”

Agnes froze for a moment.

So Raymond knew about Harvey too. And he showed up suddenly with so many people, something big must have happened.

Raymond went on, his voice low. “Back then, too many things happened that didn’t make sense. Your mother. My mother. Both of their deaths were odd. Come with me. I’ll tell you everything I know.”

Agnes felt a jolt run through her. So he had been investigating all along, just like her.

She turned to Neal, her voice softer. “Neal, I’m really sorry. I dragged you into this. But I have to go with him now.”

Neal wanted to stop her, but he held himself back. This issue was something between Raymond and Agnes. He had no right to interfere.

“Agnes, if anything happens, call me. I’ll always-”

Before he could finish, Raymond pulled Agnes away, covering her ears, and led her straight to

the car.

He brought her back to the mansion where they had once lived together for three years.

After sending everyone else away, Raymond spoke.

“Three years ago, not long after you came to live with us, my mother suddenly died of a heart attack. At first, I thought it was just an accident.”

He paused. “Until one day, while going through her belongings, I found several letters between her and your mother. Most of them were normal, just greetings. But your mother kept asking it mine had considered calling the police.”

“I don’t know how my mother replied,” Raymond continued. “And I don’t know what happened between them. But something felt off. So I started looking into my mother’s last few days.

“She collapsed in a shopping mall. The security footage showed her suddenly falling to the ground, convulsing-like she saw something that terrified her.

“I looked into everyone around her. One person caught my attention. A man in a black stood not far away.”

Raymond’s eyes darkened.

“And I saw him again. Different times. Different places. Always near my mother.

“So all these years, I’ve been tracking him. He was careful. The cameras never caught his face clearly.

“Until recently,” Raymond said, his voice tightening. “With the latest biometric system, I finally locked onto someone. His build, his walk-everything matches the man in those videos.

“He’s Harvey. Hillary’s biological father.”

Agnes felt her scalp tingle.

She had been investigating why Harvey arranged for someone to run down her mother.

And now, he was also connected to Judy’s death.

“My mom was killed by someone Harvey hired,” Agnes said slowly. “Something must have happened between them.”

She took a breath.

“That year, my mom suddenly started moving us around all the time. And that was also when your mother brought you back to the Newtons.”

Raymond nodded. “Yes. And now Harvey is looking for you. And for me.”
