Chapter 169 The Confession in the Light

Harvey tried to run, but no matter where he went, an unseen force shoved him back in front the white mist.
“You can’t escape, Harvey… a life for a life… pay for what you
did…”
The mist drifted closer. Pale arms stretched out and clamped around his throat.
Harvey stumbled back in terror. He fell hard to the ground, grabbed a stick, and swung at the mist like a madman.
But something was wrong. The mist broke apart, then quickly pulled back together. That bloody, twisted face never stopped staring at him.
Harvey roared, “To hell with you! You all deserve to die! I killed you once, I can do it again! Come on! I’m not afraid of you! I’ll kill
you all!”
He was on the edge of losing his mind. His hands shook as he gripped the stick and looked around wildly.
Then the mist vanished. A voice echoed around him, near and far at the same time.
“Why… why… did you kill me… Harvey… a life for a life…”
“Daisy! Get out here!” Harvey shouted. “Are you a person or a ghost?! You think putting up a fake grave for Melody will scare me? I’m not afraid of anyone! Not even ghosts! Come out!”
“Who… said… this… is… fake…? Hahahahaha!”
A sharp, chilling laugh burst from the grave. A woman crawled out slowly. Her hair hung loose and messy. Her body was covered in blood. Her head and arms drooped as she dragged herself forward.
“Harvey… I’m Melody… You buried me here all those years ago. You’ve finally come to see me… hahaha…”
Harvey’s face turned pale. His whole body went stiff. “You… you… you…”
“I died so horribly, Harvey…” she wailed. “I’m Melody… Look at my head. The knife you used is still stuck in it. It hurts so much… We were husband and wife. Why did you kill me? Where is our daughter?”
Harvey completely broke. He recognized the blade at once.
Years ago, they had bought it together on a trip. It was one of a kind. You couldn’t find it

anywhere else.
Could this really be Melody’s ghost?
He dropped to his knees, crying and bowing his head.

“Melody… I’m sorry… I was wrong… I didn’t mean to… I lost control… I just wanted to scare you, make you leave faster, but… but… I got carried away…”
He sobbed harder. “Please don’t hate me. I regret it. Every day, I regret it. I think about you all the time.”
Suddenly, he looked up.
“Our daughter! She’s doing well, really! I raised her right. She’s married now, into one of the richest families in Grandridge. Melody, for her sake, please move on. You wouldn’t want her to see you like this and feel hurt, right?”
“Melody” let out a cold, bitter laugh.
“You heartless monster! Back then, you cheated on me and forced me to divorce you. When I refused, you killed me and buried me in this empty place. My daughter… my poor daughter… She was taken away, and when she grew up, you pushed her into selling her body. Harvey, you’re going to burn in hell!”
“I didn’t mean to!” Harvey yelled, his voice shaking. “I was young and reckless! You had a part in it too! If you had just agreed to the divorce, I wouldn’t have done it. I wouldn’t have… killed you by accident…”
He gasped for breath.
“And those other two women, my hands wouldn’t be covered in so much blood! I wouldn’t have had to run away! If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves! I made mistake after mistake, trying to fix one thing with another. I never wanted it to be like this!”
He went on, almost desperate. “And Hillary helped me willingly! She’s greedy and ruthless. I’ve cleaned up so many of her messes over the years. I was helping her!”
“Melody” laughed louder.
“Even now, you’re still making excuses! Harvey, I’m here to take you with me. Come to hell with
me!”
Harvey jerked his head up.
Melody’s ghost lunged at him, beside her were two more shapes in the mist.
