Chapter 185 Don’t Let Me Go
Agnes laughed. “Wow Mr. Ruell, did you have honey today? You’re talking so sweet. I like that.”
Neal smiled softly and looked at her. His eyes held too many feelings.

Ever since she turned him down last time, he hadn’t pushed her again. He didn’t want to annoy her.
Instead, he kept in touch once in a while. Just enough to stay connected.
When he didn’t reply, Agnes tilted her head. “So why did you ask me out here today? This place is empty. Don‘: tell me you rented the whole restaurant?”
Neal just smiled and didn’t answer. He pointed out the window. “Look. The night view of Grandridge is beautiful.”
Agnes followed his finger and looked out.
It really was. The restaurant sat right in the center of the city. Through the glass, the whole skyline stretched out before them, bright and alive.
“Wow, it’s really pretty,” she said without thinking.
Neal watched her from the side. His gaze was soft and focused, a quiet smile on his lips.
All the lights in the city couldn’t compare to her.
After a long pause, he spoke. “Agnes, I’m leaving Grandridge.”
She turned to him, surprised. “Leaving? Where are you going?”
Neal took a breath. “My family started a few new companies in Wenmark. They need someone to run things there. My dad wants me to take over.”
He paused, then added, “If I go… I might be there for a long time.”
His eyes stayed on her face. There was something complicated in them–hope, maybe, oi a quiet test.
Agnes froze. The air between them turned still.
Neal wanted to hear her ask him to stay or tell him that she would go with him.
But she didn’t. Instead, she asked, “Will you come back?”
A small piece of him sank. “Probably… yeah.”
Agnes was quiet for a moment. Then she picked up her glass and raised it.
“Come back when you can. Don’t forget your old friends. I wish you the best. Safe travels.”
Neal’s expression grew serious. He didn’t raise his glass. He just looked at her, his eyes burning with feeling.

“Would you come to Wenmark with me?”
His voice was steady but full of emotion. “I mean it. I know you’ve been through a lot lately. You don’t want to talk about it, but I know.
“You and Raymond are over. Could you give me a chance?”
He swallowed, then continued. “My feelings haven’t changed. Not even a little. Even after you rejected me… I still don’t want to give up.
“Maybe you’re not ready for something new. I won’t force you. I can wait. I’ll wait as long as it takes until you’re ready.”
Agnes looked at him. Her hand slowly lowered from the air.
She looked down. Her eyes flickered, caught between struggle and helplessness.
Then she said softly, “I’m sorry.”
Those three words cut through him like a blade.
His eyes dimmed. His smile,
bitter, but his voice stayed gentle.
“It’s okay. I understand. I was ready for this. After all, it’s the first time you’ve turned me down.”
Not wanting to make her
yard, he forced a light tone.
“But hey, be careful. Who knows? I might confess to you again someday.”
He raised his glass to her. “Come on, Agnes. Cheers. Wish me luck and a bright future.”
Agnes lifted her glass too. “Cheers.”
Neal smiled. “I’ll still keep in touch. We’re still friends, right?“\
“Of course,” Agnes said. “You’ve helped me a lot. I still owe you quite a few favors.”
He laughed. “Then keep owing me. You can take your whole life to pay me back.”
Agnes laughed too. She truly wished him well.
Downstairs, Raymond’s car was parked by the curb. He stood outside, tall and still under the moonlight. A cigarette burned between his fingers, one after another.
