Chapter 190 The Wrong Model
Nadia frowned, still–upset. Agnes, are you okay? That reporter was so rude. Who takes pictures right outside a fitting room?”
Agnes dragged the long train of her dress and shook her head. “I’m fine. Ignore them. Help me get this gown off.”
Nadia supported her as they walked, still muttering under her breath.
“This event organizer is a mess. We almost missed our slot because of them. And the security is terrible. People can just walk in and start snapping photos. I’m going to have a word with them later.”
Rita stood nearby, looking uneasy.
Right before going on stage, Agnes had suddenly replaced the model. With no time to explain, she wore the gown herself and walked the runway.
No one understood what had happened. But everything moved too fast. When Agnes made a call, they just followed.
Backstage, Rita had gone over it in her head again and again. She had been the one in charge of finding the model. Had she messed un
Agnes changed out of the gown, removed her makeup, and sat down to rest.
“Rita,” she said calmly, “where did you find this year’s model?”
Rita hesitated. “I… did the same as always. I contacted a modeling agency. They recommended her. Is there a problem? You saw her profile before and chose her.”
Agnes looked at her. “Did you run a background check?”
Rita nodded quickly. “Of course. Every time we hire models, I check their background first. Only after everything is clear do I send you their profiles.”
Agnes’s voice turned cold. “Really? Then do you know the model you picked this time has a terrible reputation? She’s used drugs.”
Rita’s face turned pale. She broke down immediately.
“No way, Agnes, I checked everyone! I swear I did! I know our studio has strict rules. I’ve worked with you for so long. I know how important this is. I wouldn’t be that careless.”
Agnes turned her laptop toward her.
On the screen were news reports exposing the model’s past.
Rita cried even harder. She clearly remembered checking everything. How could this happen?
“I’m sorry, Agnes. I don’t know how I made such a big mistake.”

Finished
Nadia stepped in gently. “Agnes, I really don’t think Rita did this on purpose. Maybe she just missed something.
Agnes didn’t soften.
“There wasn’t much time earlier, so helped the model change myself. I saw marks on her thighs and arms. Even with heavy concealer, you could still see the needle marks. I looked her up right away and found out the truth.”
“You brought someone like that here. Were you trying to ruin our brand?”
Rita collapsed to the floor, shaking.
“No, no, that’s not true! I’m so sorry, Agnes. I don’t know how I messed this up so badly. I caused such a huge problem for the studio. It’s all my fault. Thank goodness nothing serious happened.”
Tears streamed down her face.
“I’ll resign. I’ll leave the company. Thank you for taking care of me all these years and for helping my daughter. I’m sorry.”
She stood up with red, swollen eyes, bowed deeply to Agnes, and turned to leave.
“Stop.” Agnes’s voice cut through the room. “Did I say you’re fired? Who’s the boss here—you or me?”
Rita froze and turned back, stunned.
Agnes walked over and looked at her.
“You’ve been with me for a while. I know how you work. I won’t hold this against you. But don’t let it happen again. This is the last time.”
Rita’s eyes filled with tears again. She nodded over and over.
“I’ll be more careful. I promise.”
Agnes patted her shoulder, her tone serious.
“The workplace is like a battlefield. One small mistake can cost the company more than you can imagine. From now on, be careful–very careful.”
Rita choked back tears and nodded.
