Chapter 226 Bad Mommy
“Her mom used to be my closest friend. Because of some circumstances, she… left.
“Her father is in a vegetative state, still in the hospital, unable to care for her.
“Her grandparents warrted to sell her, and I couldn’t bear to see it, so I gave them money and adopted her myself.”
Nadia, sitting beside her, suddenly fell silent, her face turning pale as she sat frozen in the passenger seat
Not hearing any response, Agnes quickly asked, “What’s wrong, Nadia? Are you okay?”
A flicker of panic flashed in Nadia’s eyes before she forced a smile, her face still pale.
“Uh… I’m fine. Just a little carsick.
“Agnes, I didn’t expect you to be such a good person, even raising your friend’s child…”
Agnes said, “Yeah, I’m the kind of person who holds on to the past, haha.”
Nadia couldn’t help but turn around and look at the child. The little girl seemed very afraid.
She buried her face in the woman’s arms, occasionally peeking out with one eye to look at her.
The woman smiled. “She’s shy and doesn’t do well with strangers.
Nadia reached out and gently touched the child’s cheek. “It’s okay, sweetheart. Don’t be scared… What’s your name?”
The child didn’t answer, only blinking her eyes as she looked at her.
Agnes said, “Her name is Ethlyn Foster.”
“Ethlyn…Foster…”
Nadia murmured softly, her voice trembling as her fists clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms.
She forced a smile.
“That’s a beautiful name. Did you choose it, Agnes?”
Agnes said, “Her mom did. When she was pregnant, she combined her name with the father’s.”
“Is that so…” Nadia said quietly, her voice almost inaudible. “Her mom must have loved her very much…”
Agnes let out a soft laugh. “She did, once. After that…who knows?”
Nadia turned to look at Agnes and said, “What mother doesn’t love her child? Maybe…she had her reasons.
Agnes glanced at Nadia and smiled. “Maybe.”
Nadia looked at the child again and murmured, “Poor kid…”

Suddenly, her pupils shrank as her gaze locked onto the child’s exposed arm.
On that small, delicate arm were several shocking bruises.
The woman beside her seemed to notice as well and quickly tugged the sleeve down to cover it.
Nadia looked at her, her voice sharp with anger and accusation. “What are you doing? What’s on her arm?”
The woman said, “Huh? What? It’s nothing.”
Nadia said, “You’re lying! I clearly saw injuries on her arm! Are you…abusing her?”
The woman said, “Hey! Don’t make things up! When have I ever abused her?”
Agnes spoke up from the side, “Now that’s an unfair accusation, Nadia. Maggie takes very good care of her.
