Love After-Leaving: No Regret
Chapter 264 Despised
Then the man she had loved for so many years, Raymond, hurt her without mercy.
She thought her good days were over.
But now, at the exact moment she hit bottom, fate pushed Duncan back into her life.
A spark returned to Monica’s dull eyes.
As long as she held on tight to this lifeline, became the Shaw family’s daughter-in-law, and stepped back into high society, she could go back to living the way she used to, wrapped in luxury, carefree for the rest of her life.
Thinking that, a flicker of regret crossed her mind.
She hadn’t cared much about Duncan before, even though he had been devoted to her for years.
But it wasn’t too late.
She could tell Duncan still wanted her, just as much as before.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have stayed by her side or spent that much money to get her out.
Monica leaned into his arms, pretending to tremble, her voice soft and fragile
“Duncan, I didn’t expect you to still be this capable, even after leaving the Newtons.”
Her voice broke as she started to cry.
“But… I’m still scared, Duncan.
“Agnes and Raymond… they’re so cruel, so heartless…
“Why are they treating us like this…”
Duncan already hated Raymond and Agnes. Seeing the woman he cared about cry like this twisted something inside him.
Guilt crept in too.
After all, he was the one who went to Monica first, the one who planned to use the Hales against them.
In the end, he failed and dragged her down with him.
Right now, he wanted nothing more than to tear those two apart and crush them for good.
He forced the anger down and gently wiped the tears from her face.
Looking at her delicate, tear-streaked expression, he couldn’t help himself and leaned in to kiss her.
Monica caught on immediately, closing her eyes, tilting her head up to meet him.
Just as their lips were about to touch, a light female voice drifted down from upstairs.
“Duncan, you’re back.”
Monica’s eyes snapped open, irritation flashing across them. Who’s that? Can’t she read the room?
Duncan looked up at the second floor, his hand slowly slipping from Monica’s waist.
He cleared his throat, a little awkward.
“Uh, Rebecca, let me introduce you. This is Monica. You’ve spoken on the phone before.”
Rebecca walked down the stairs and stopped in front of them.
Back then, it was Monica who paid people to get her out of that remote small town, following Duncan’s instructions.
