Vivian pitched her voice higher, doing her best imitation of Agnes. She coiled herself around Raymond like a snake, a flicker of triumph in her eyes.
The cave incident. She'd pinned every last bit of it on Brooke, but Neal had only grown more distant since.
She'd swallowed her pride and gone to him, tried to explain, and he wouldn't even look at her. Wouldn't spare her a single glance. And to top it all off, she'd made a spectacle of herself in front of everyone.
She'd run back to her room in tears, and there in the hallway she'd spotted Agnes carrying a tray of food.
A white-hot fury ignited inside her. What was it about this woman?
Forget Neal. Even Raymond Newton, the wealthiest man in Grandridge, had come to this island personally for her. He'd deployed the city's highest-level military unit.
Jealousy and rage twisted together until a plan took shape.
You stole my man, Agnes Sinclair. Now I'm going to give you a taste of your own medicine.
She knew Raymond couldn't see. This was the perfect opportunity, and she figured it'd be easy. No man alive could resist her.
She'd disguised herself as Agnes and slipped in to seduce him. She'd been crouched outside his door for a long time, waiting until Agnes left before she dared go inside.
She'd heard all about Raymond Newton's reputation. Handsome, impossibly wealthy, enormously powerful. The kind of man who was so far above her she couldn't even dream of speaking to him. But tonight, fate had handed her a gift.
Vivian had never been this close to Raymond before. Up close, he was even more striking than she'd imagined. The sculpted features, the broad, powerful frame.
She swallowed involuntarily. Her lips curled. She reached up and slowly undid the top buttons of her blouse, a quiet thought sliding through her mind.
Well, you're gorgeous. Lucky you.
She spread her arms and lunged for him.
Raymond's brow furrowed sharply. A wave of cheap, cloying perfume hit him like a wall. His leg shot out and he kicked her hard, sending her sprawling.
"Ow!"
"Hm? Did I kick something?" Raymond said. "Agnes, you okay? Where are you?"
Vivian clutched her stomach, tears pouring down her face, silently screaming every curse she knew.
Blind idiot! What is wrong with you? You can't even see!
She gritted her teeth through the pain and hauled herself up, her mouth twitching. "I'm... I'm fine..."
She crept toward him again, one careful step at a time. You stubborn bastard. You think I can't handle you tonight?
That nauseating perfume hit him again. The sensor on his watch pulsed its alert. The person approaching him was not Agnes. He was about to deal with whoever it was when the door flew open.
"Ahhh!"
