Comments kept popping up on the terminal screen. The stream of insults and slurs just wouldn’t stop. I frowned, swiping my finger across the screen as I forced myself to maintain

my composure.

Johnny stood next to me, worry filling his voice. Alan, you need to stop looking at that. We’ve already started our crisis management response, but this incident is just too serious. We have to clarify the truth as soon as possible, or your reputation and entire diplomatic career could be damaged beyond repair.”

Of course, I already knew all of that.

But what concerned me more than my own situation was Emily.

Those people spreading rumors had even exposed her family’s information. She was just an ordinary girl; there was no way she could handle this kind of harassment.

“Forget about the PR for now.” I cut Johnny off, my tone firm. “Send someone to Emily’s training camp right away. She needs round-the-clock protection. No reporters or anyone with bad intentions can be allowed to harass her

“Even at a time like this, you’re still thinking about someone else?” Johnny’s voice rose in frustration. “Can you please start worrying about yourself? Right now, everyone on the Howlstead public forum is talking about this, and there’s nothing but negative coverage about you!”

I put my phone away and looked up at Johnny, leaving no room for argument. “If someone is innocent, the truth will come out. I know I didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not afraid of being slandered. But Emily hasn’t done anything, and she shouldn’t get dragged into this because of me.”

Johnny opened his mouth, like he wanted to say more, but all he managed was a long, heavy

sigh.

Of course he knew I was right, but people online only believed what they wanted and never listened to explanations.

“But public opinion is against us. Just hoping people see the truth is not enough.” Johnny’s voice softened, sounding helpless.

I stood up, smoothing out the wrinkles in my jacket, my eyes darkening. “Then let’s go fix it.”

Johnny was caught off guard, looking confused. Where are we going?”

To the entrance of the Foreign Affairs Department office building.” I headed for the door. “If everyone wants an explanation, then I’ll give them one.”

As soon as I walked out the building’s main entrance, a group of reporters with voice. recorders and cameras swarmed toward me like sharks that had smelled blood.

“Mr. Ortega, did you really have an improper relationship with that girl, and did you make her get private medical treatment?”

“Didn’t your actions go against the standards of conduct for diplomats? What do you plan to do about it?”

“Mr. Ortega, please answer us! Will this affect your future diplomatic work, and are you planning to resign?”

The questions hit me one after another, the camera flashes so bright I could barely keep my

eyes open.

I stopped, not dodging or showing any fear. I locked straight at the nearest camera and spoke coldly.

“All the stories online that aren’t true-my team will be sending out legal letters immediately. As for the people making and spreading these rumors, you can expect to see a court

summons soon.”

For a moment, my words made the whole crowd fall silent. But soon, another reporter pressed on, unwilling to give up. “So, Mr. Ortega you’re saying you and that girl are not in a romantic relationship?”

“Then why did the two of you look so close at the hospital? If you weren’t more than friends, why did you go with her to the hospital at all?”

“The public wants a clear answer. You can’t just threaten reporters and avoid the issue.”

I shot a cold look at the reporter who kept pushing, making the man shrink back a little.

“You take a couple of out-of-context photos and make up your own story. That’s what you’re good at. The real story is nothing like what you’ve been spreading. You’ve twisted the facts and smeared someone’s reputation, and that counts as defamation. So, which news agency are you with? My lawyer will be in touch with your agency shortly.”

That completely intimidated the reporter. He opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but he couldn’t manage a single word in response.

After all, all they had were some photos circulating online. There were not a shred of real evidence in their hands.
