“There was a story I loved when I was a child.” My voice cut through the chaos, calm, almost thoughtful. “I remember it too well.”

“Ahhh, my hand! My hand!”

The scream tore through the air. I didn’t even blink.

“Every night,” I continued, as though I was having a normal conversation as the rogue dropped to his knees in front of me, clutching what remained of his arm, his severed hand still twitching in my grip, blood smeared across my face as his eyes locked onto mine in pure terror.

“Without fail, I made the old man read it to me. If he didn’t” I tilted my head slightly, watching him, “I wouldn’t sleep.” A low chuckle slipped from my lips. “I’d just lie there. Staring. Waiting.”

My foot came down his head.

A sickening crack.

Silence.

“A stubborn child, don’t you think?”

A blur passed me-Silas and Lucien. They moved in and out of existence like shadows. One moment beside me, the next already behind another rogue. Bodies dropped before the mind could even register death. It was clean, precise and effortless.

My chuckle deepened.

Another one came.

A wolf this time, massive, snarling, charging straight at me with everything it had.

I didn’t move, didn’t need to. Before it could reach me, its head separated cleanly from its body, momentum still carrying it forward before its body collapsed at my feet.

Blood sprayed across me-warm, thick as I chuckled, reaching up to rub my chin with stained fingers, thoughtful as I hummed.

“Where was I again? Ah. Right…”

The story.

“It was about a dog,” I said lazily. “A small, greedy thing… well respected among the others. The leader of its pack. It had everything it should have, everything at its level, anyway.”

A rogue lunged from my left.

I caught his wrist mid-strike, twisting, bone snapping under my grip like dry wood. Before he could scream, I drove him into the ground, the impact cracking beneath us as a wild grin stretched across my lips.

“But the dog got greedy,” I continued. “It wasn’t enough. It wanted more. More power. More wealth. More than what it should have had.”

Another rogue rushed from behind.

He never made it.

Silas stepped in-no expression, no hesitation. His aura flared, heavy, suffocating. The rogue froze mid-step.

A sharp, invisible pressure surged towards him and then…snap!

His body dropped. Silas didn’t even look at him, he was looking at me. Head slightly tilted, eyes empty, untouched by the blood staining everything else. Unlike me.

And when I met his gaze, my smile widened. My hands slipped into my pockets as he vanished again.

“The dog had a very big… impossible ambition,” I went on. “You see, he envied the wolves. They were stronger. Faster. He wanted to lead them.” A faint chuckle. “And to do that, he formed an alliance with the enemy of all animals.”

I paused for a second.

“The hyenas.”

Three rogues in wolf form charged at me. I didn’t move, didn’t even bother. My voice dragged on, slow, almost bored.

“And after that…”

They were about to tear into me, however, Lucien moved, cold and precise.

A flick of his hand, and all three were lifted into the air, throats crushed by nothing but force before being thrown aside like discarded meat.

However, before he vanished again, he shot me a glare, his voice sliding through the mindlink.

“Shut the hell up”

I only chuckled, tilting my head as a rogue tried a sneak attack straight for my head but of course, he missed.

I tilted my head, raised a finger and snapped. I watched as he exploded into a spray of blood yet I calmly pulled out a handkerchief, dabbing at my face as though nothing had happened.

“And after joining the hyenas…” I continued, almost pleasantly, “the dog betrayed the wolves. Not just the wolves.”

My voice lowered.

“But every living creature.”

The air shifted.

Screams echoed, sharp, raw, desperate as bodies fell one after another. The ground turned slick beneath the weight of it all, soaked in red. Headless corpses. Severed limbs were scattered everywhere.

“Because the hyenas…they didn’t just kill. They raided. They destroyed. They took what they wanted. Women. Children. Men.”

I dropped the bloodied handkerchief.

“And yet the dog colluded with them.”

The moment the words left my lips, I vanished. No blur. No trace.

Just gone.

Even my brothers would struggle to follow and the next second, I was in front of him.

Lucas.

He trembled on the ground, eyes wide, shaking as he stared at the aftermath, at Lucien and Silas finishing the last of the rogues behind me, bodies dropping in.

I leaned down.

Close.

My blond hair fell across my face as I smiled at him, a low chuckle slipping free.

“What do you think happened to the dog in the story… Lucas?”

He stiffened, gasping, trembling.

“F-five hundred rogues…” he stammered, voice breaking. Lucien and Silas appeared beside me silently.

Lucien lit a cigar.

Silas brushed nonexistent dust from his coat.

“You monsters killed all 500 rogues in under five minutes…” Lucas choked out. “That’s impossible. That’s… inhumane.”

I stared at him then laughed.

Head thrown back, the sound ringing sharp and unrestrained through the air. When I looked back down at him, it was with pure amusement.

“Ah… I don’t know whether to be insulted,” I said lightly. “You know our strength, Lucas.” A small tilt of my head. “So what made you think bringing 500 men would do anything?”

Every movement deliberate as he lowered himself to Lucas’s level. The cigar rested between his fingers, ember glowing faintly as he brought it to his lips, then exhaled, smoke drifting straight into Lucas’s face.

Lucas choked on it, trembling. Lucien’s other hand lifted, reaching towards him calmly and Lucas knew. The moment he saw it, he knew exactly what was coming.

His entire body went rigid, cold dread flooding his veins as his eyes widened in pure, animal panic.

“N-no, wait!” he stammered, shaking his head frantically. “Don’t-don’t kill me! I will tell you, I will tell you who Verek is! I swear, I will tell you everything, just, just spare me!” His voice broke, desperation clawing through every word. “I promise, I swear it, just don’t-!”

Lucien paused.

His hand stilled mid-air. For a second, hope flickered.

Lucas exhaled shakily, nodding too fast, relief spilling across his face in a fragile, desperate smile.
