Samuel pov
The golden dagger.
She was fusing with it.
For the first time, my mind didn’t keep up. It didn’t calculate, didn’t predict, didn’t try to make sense of what I was seeing. It just… stopped.
Empty.
Just like that.
Like it had done once before, years ago, when my parents stood in front of me trying to teach me what emotions were supposed to look like. Back then it had been blankness, a hollow absence where reactions were meant to be.
But this time was different.
This time, something forced its way through that emptiness.
My chest tightened.
My pulse kicked violently against my ribs.
My body locked up in place as if it had forgotten how to move.
Fear.
Was this really fear?
I tilted my head slightly, staring, eyes widened in a way I didn’t even realize I was doing, watching her like I couldn’t decide what I was feeling.
Her body jerked violently as the golden dagger dissolved, no longer a weapon but a surge of pure light pouring straight into her chest as if it had been waiting for her all along.
And then—
She threw her head back.
A scream ripped out of her, so sharp it felt like it split the sky itself. The clouds above shuddered violently in response. The ground beneath her cracked under the pressure of it.
She trembled, and screamed and then—stillness.
For a moment, the entire battlefield seemed to freeze. Then everyone reacted.
“Lilith!”
Lucien's voice tore through the silence.
“Lilith!”
Claude and Silas surged forward at the same time, their faces stripped bare of composure as they rushed toward her but then another explosion of golden light erupted.
BOOM!
The world shook.
A pressure unlike anything I had ever felt descended from the sky. The shockwave slammed into everything in its path. I didn't even have time to react. One second I was standing. The next—I was flying across the air.
A grunt escaped me as my body smashed into the ground with enough force to crack the earth beneath me. Around me, hundreds of rogues crashed into the battlefield like broken dolls. Screams. Groans. Bodies rolling across dirt.
Then suddenly—the golden light vanished.
Almost immediately, I forced myself upright but the pressure remained. The sky continued rumbling. The wind surged across the battlefield, carrying sand and debris into the air.
Nothing felt normal.
Nothing felt right.
My wolf was on edge. Every instinct inside me was screaming. Around me, my rogues slowly rose to their feet, staring ahead with fear written all over their faces.
Lucien. Claude. Silas.
The three Alphas stood frozen.
The storm of sand blocked my vision for only a moment.
Just one moment.
Then the wind shifted.
The sand cleared and my heart dropped because what stood before us...wasn't Lilith anymore.
Golden light poured from her body. Not around her but from her.
Her golden hair floated weightlessly around her. Her eyes glowed gold, not the gold of Drevena, not the gold I had seen before.
Looking at her felt like staring directly into the sun. Like witnessing something mortals were never meant to see.
For the first time in my life—I felt fear.
Real fear.
Beside me, Lucien looked as though he couldn't breathe. Claude's fists trembled. Silas had gone deathly pale.
Jayden's broken voice echoed across the battlefield as he called out for his daughter.
“Ah... no... Lilith...”
But she didn't react, didn't blink, didn't acknowledge him. Her gaze moved slowly across the battlefield. Across the rogues. Across the Alphas. Across her father.
And then, it landed on me.
The moment her eyes settled on mine, something dropped inside my stomach.
I knew.
I knew exactly what was about to happen. She was going to kill me and this time, I wouldn't be able to dodge.
Something inside me went completely still. Then it whispered a single word.
Run.
My entire body locked up as I watched her tilt her head slightly, her golden eyes narrowing. Killing intent flashed across her face. My mind reacted before my body.
The smugness. The amusement. The confidence.
It was all gone.
“Shield me!”
My voice exploded across the battlefield the next second as I roared to my rogues
“USE YOUR LIVES TO SHIELD YOUR KING!”
I didn't tell them to attack. That would be pointless. Nothing here could defeat her, not my rogues.
Not even my cousins.
Then Lilith moved.
No, she vanished. There was no movement, no running, no acceleration.
One moment she stood there.
The next—she was gone.
“Fuck!”
I spun around and ran. For the first time in my life, I ran. I tried shifting, tried forcing my wolf forward but my wolf refused. The massive black beast inside me whimpered, terrified of the power chasing us. So I ran as a human and behind me, the massacre began.
My rogues didn't hesitate. The moment I ordered them to shield me, they rushed forward. Hundreds of them. Throwing themselves into her path. Trying to buy me seconds.
Just seconds but it wasn't a battle. It wasn't even a fight.
It was slaughter.
A golden flash tore through the battlefield, heads flew, blood painted the ground. Bodies collapsed before they even realized they were dead. I looked back over my shoulder and I didn't see Lilith.
I only saw gold.
A streak of divine destruction rushing through my army. Every rogue in her path fell, they were beheaded, and torn apart.
My eyes widened.
I ran faster but no matter how fast I moved, I could feel her presence behind me, getting closer. My heart hammered violently.
My rogues snapped out of their daze, hundreds charged but Lilith never moved. She simply stood there, eyes closed, the first rogue reached her, claws reaching out.
However, before he could touch her, an arrow pierced straight through his neck, and he dropped instantly.
Every rogue froze.
I froze.
Then hundreds of arrows descended from the sky, bodies began falling. One after another and over the hill, an army appeared.
Wolves, warriors, pack soldiers. At their front stood Verya, beside her was Abraham, the triplets gamma.
“Attack!” Verya's scream echoed across the battlefield.
“Kill all rogues! Leave no one alive!!”
My eyes widened, my army was collapsing, being slaughtered and then, I heard her voice.
“The Golden Dagger...” I jerked my head toward her, she was walking again, slowly, toward me.
“The Golden Dagger has another myth.” Each step made the earth tremble as she closed her eyes, fighting against something. My body instinctively moved backward.
“It doesn't only grant the power of the Goddess.” Another step.
“It grants a wish.”
My heart stopped.
I had heard that legend before but I had dismissed it as nonsense.
That someone could use the Golden dagger to make any wish, any wish except changing the past and it would be granted. Seeing that Lilith had stabbed herself without a moment of hesitation, there was only one explanation.
Her wolf, Drevena, must have told her.
It had to be true.
Lilith stopped in front of me. I stared up at her, terrified.
“Do you know what I want to wish for, Samuel?” My entire body shook. Then she spoke and the heavens listened.
“I wish that no child will ever lose their family to monsters like you.” Lightning split the sky.
“I wish no woman will suffer because power-hungry men decide her life is worthless.”
The earth trembled.
“I wish no innocent soul will be hunted, sold, murdered, tortured, or sacrificed ever again.”
The wind roared.
“I wish that from this day forward, anyone who seeks pleasure in the suffering of others... anyone who kills the innocent for power... anyone who walks the path you walked...”
Her golden eyes locked onto mine and for the first time, I understood.
This wasn't a wish.
It wasn't salvation.
It wasn't mercy.
It was judgment.
“I wish they die.”
BOOM!
Lightning tore the heavens apart, and as the sky shattered with thunder, my entire body went cold because that wasn't a wish.
It was a curse.
A curse cast upon anyone who would choose the path of a rogue. Anyone who would become a monster. Anyone who would spread suffering like I had.
She had placed a curse upon the world itself.
A curse that would change the future forever.
