My fingers tightened around Hugh York’s scalp like a vice of steel. I could feel the frantic, rabbitfast pulse beating against his temple beneath my grip.

Tell me, Hugh,” I whispered, my voice light and conversational, as if we were discussing the weather. Exactly how hard is your skull?

Hugh’s eyes widened in the gloom, darting frantically from side to side. He tried to pull away, to shove me back, but his body refused to obey. The neurotoxin had done its work perfectly.

Wwhat are you doing?he stammered, his voice trembling with rising panic. I can’t move! My handsmy

legsI can’t feel anything!

Paralysis is a fascinating thing,I mused, leaning closer. You’re trapped in your own meat suit, Hugh. Only your eyes and mouth work now.

I lifted my gaze to scan the rest of the VIP box. Even in the dimness, my wolf senses painted a clear picture of the pathetic scene.

Jade York was huddled in the corner, pressed tightly against Griffin Drake’s chest. Her face was buried in his shirt, her shoulders shaking as if she were sobbing. To an outsider, she looked terrified. But I could hear her heartbeat. It was steady. Rhythmic. Calm.

Are you scared, babe?Griffin murmured, tightening his arm around her possessively. His voice dripped with protective arrogance, feeding his Alpha ego.

A little,Jade lied, her voice muffled against his fabric.

Griffin puffed out his chest, his vanity stroked. He loved playing the savior, unaware he was holding a viper.

My eyes shifted to the other sofa, where the sight was even more pathetic. Lucas Lloyd, the man who had just threatened to make me crawl, was curled into a ball. He was practically hiding behind Celine Stone, gripping her shoulders and using her body as a human shield against the unseen threat.

Celine sat rigid, her face pale in the shadows. She didn’t have a wolf, but her human senses were sharp enough to smell the fear rolling off him. A wave of her scent hit me. It wasn’t fear. It was pure, unadulterated disgust. She despised him for his cowardice.

I looked back at the man in my grasp. I leaned in until my lips brushed his ear.

Two years ago,I whispered. Northgate Bridge. A rainy Tuesday night.

Hugh’s breath hitched, a sharp intake of air that sounded like a sob.

You were drunk,I continued softly. You took the turn too fast. You hit a stray pup. His head shattered on

impact.

I felt his body seize up, vibrating with a new, primal kind of terror.

Howhow do you know that?Hugh gasped, tears spilling from his eyes. Are youare you here for

revenge? Was that pup yours?

I let out a short, dry laugh.

Mine? No. I didn’t even know him.I tilted my head, watching the hope flicker in his eyes. He’s just a convenient excuse for me to break you tonight.

Hugh’s hope flared, desperate and pathetic.

I can fix this!he blabbered, spit flying from his lips. I can give you anything! Starlight Entertainment? I’ll

use the York family resources to clear its name! I swear!

He was pleading now, bargaining for his life.

The blackmail on Jasper Calder and Wayne? I’ll delete it all! Just let me go! Please, Amelia! I have money! I have power!

I looked down at him with genuine pity.

Your spine is softer than your tongue, Hugh.”

*Crush him!* Ava roared in my mind, her bloodlust spiking. *End him now!*

My hand shot out to the table beside us. My fingers closed around the neck of a heavy wine bottle.

Deal denied,I said.

I swung the bottle down with all my strength.

*CRACK.*

The sound was sickeningly wet. The glass exploded on impact against Hugh’s skull. Dark wine mixed with

bright red blood, spraying across the expensive carpet. Hugh let out a highpitched, gurgling scream like a

dying animal before slumping forward,

(Author’s POV)

The metallic tang of fresh blood instantly filled the enclosed space. It was a scent that triggered the predatory instincts of every werewolf in the room, sharp and intoxicating.

Griffin Drake tensed, his grey eyes flashing dangerously in the dark, muscles colling to spring. But he hesitated. Amelia’s methods were too strangethe paralysis, the darkness, the sudden violence. He didn’t want to risk ending up like Hugh.

Amelia tossed the jagged neck of the bottle onto the floor. It clattered loudly in the silence.

He’ll live,” she said indifferently. If you get him to a hospital within the hour.”

She turned her back on the bloodied man and walked toward the door. She pushed the heavy mahogany

panels open.

The corridor outside should have been pitch black. But it wasn’t.

Hundreds of tiny points of light flickered in the air. Fireflies. They swirled and danced, gathering together to form a glowing river of light. They hovered at eye level, creating a path that led straight to the stairs.

Stop her!Griffin roared from inside the box, his voice cracking with rage. Guards! Seize her!

But the bodyguards on the floor only groaned. Their limbs were heavy as lead, the toxin still coursing

through their veins. Not a single man moved.

Amelia paused at the threshold. She didn’t turn around.

Save your breath, Griffin, she called back, her tone mocking. If I were you, I’d worry less about me and more about downstairs. Night City’s reputation is bleeding out faster than Hugh.”

Downstairs, the main dance floor was in complete disarray. The sudden blackout had killed the music and plunged hundreds of wealthy patrons into darkness. Angry shouts rose from the crowd, demanding

answers from the management.

Then, a gasp rippled through the center of the room.

Look! Up there!

Heads turned. On the grand staircase, a river of light was flowing downwards. The fireflies buzzed softly, their bioluminescence casting an ethereal green glow on the woman walking amongst them.

Amelia descended the steps with the grace of a queen. The insects parted for her, lighting her way through the darkness. It was a scene straight out of a fantasy, beautiful and terrifying.

That’sthat’s Amelia Stone,” someone whispered. The one who controls snakes?

Now she controls bugs too?

The crowd parted instantly. Burly Alpha warriors and arrogant socialites scrambled to get out of her way. They pressed themselves against the walls, eyes wide with fear and awe.

To walk into the Drake family’s stronghold, cause a blackout, and walk out guided by nature itself? It was a display of power that forced everyone to reevaluate the weight of this female Alpha.

Back in the VIP box, the silence was heavy and suffocating long after Amelia had gone.

Griffin Drake stood in the dark, his chest heaving with suppressed rage. The humiliation burned hotter than any physical wound.

He let out a feral snarl and spun around.
