Chapter 116: The Art of Manipulation

Chapter 116: The Art of Manipulation

(Author’s POV)

Ethan rifled through the stolen leather bag with frantic hands. He needed to know what secrets Celine was hiding. He pushed aside a few papers and his fingers brushed against a

soft leather notebook.

He pulled it out. It was a diary. He recognized the handwriting immediately. It was Celine’s.

He opened it, intending to just glance at a page, but he found himself reading intently. The

entries were a detailed record of her recent emotional turmoil.

Page after page, Celine poured out her heart. She wasn’t jealous of Amelia. She was terrified. She wrote that she feared she wasn’t good enough to be accepted by the true Alpha bloodline.

Ethan frowned as he reached the entry about the conflict in the garden.

Celine described Amelia as a ticking time bomb. She wrote that she had only gone to greet her sister, but Amelia had snapped. According to the diary, Amelia’s eyes had gone wild, like a beast, before she slapped Celine without warning.

*I was so scared,* the entry read. *I couldn’t even move. I just froze. And when Caleb tried to stop her, she kicked him like he was a ragdoll.*

Ethan’s chest tightened.

He flipped forward. The later pages were filled with anxiety about his broken leg. Celine wrote about begging people for help, trying desperately to find the legendary Shadow Healernamed Lily for him.

He reached the final entry. The ink looked fresh.

*I think I found out about Amelia’s past,* Celine wrote. *She was a Rogue. She has a dark history. I have to tell the family at the engagement party. They might hate me for ruining the mood, but I have to protect the Stone family. If I could, I would give my life to wake Caleb up.*

Ethan’s hands shook violently. The diary slipped from his fingers and hit the desk.

Guilt washed over him like icy water. He had doubted her. He had actually believed Amelia’s insinuations for a moment. He felt like the worst brother in the world.

He slammed his hand on the intercom button.

Get in here,he barked at his Beta.

The door opened instantly.

Claim

Go to the family vault,” Ethan ordered, his voice thick with emotion. Get the ancestral moonstone jewelry set. The full set. I want it wrapped and delivered to Celine immediately.

Across town, the air in the private hospital room smelled of antiseptic and expensive flowers. Celine lounged on the plush sofa, a tablet balanced on her knees.

She scrolled through a luxury jewelry website, her blue eyes scanning the diamond necklaces with bored detachment.

I wonder what he’ll send,” she murmured to herself. A smirk played on her lips. After reading that tearjerker of a diary, he’ll probably empty the vault.

She knew Ethan had been suspicious. That was why she planted the diary. It was too easy.

She set the tablet down and walked over to the hospital bed. Caleb lay there, pale and motionless. The machines beeped in a steady rhythm.

Celine looked down at him. There was no love in her eyes. Only cold calculation.

You know, Caleb, she said softly, smoothing a wrinkle on his sheet. To be honest, you and Ethan are adorably stupid. You’re both wrapped around my finger.

She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a whisper.

I’ve known since I was twelve that I wasn’t Adrian’s daughter,” she confessed to the unconscious man. My real father was a piece of trash. A greedy Rogue who kept blackmailing me. I had to be perfect. I had to be the princess so the Stones would never let me go.

She laughed lightly. Look at what I’ve achieved. Ethan broke his leg for me. You’re in a coma

for me.

She reached into her purse and pulled out a tube of lipstick. She twisted the bottom, but instead of makeup, a small needle popped out. It was filled with a dark, viscous purple liquid.

Liquid Wolfsbane. High concentration.

She expertly injected it into Caleb’s IV line.

Claim

This will keep your wolf, Noah, fast asleep, she said soothingly. No selfhealing for you.

Deep inside his mind, Caleb’s consciousness screamed. He roared in silent fury, thrashing against the darkness, but he couldn’t move a muscle. He could only listen as the viper spoke.

Don’t worry,” Celine patted his cheek. I’ll get revenge on Amelia for you.

(Amelia’s POV)

The next morning, the atmosphere in the living room was thick enough to cut with a knife.

I walked down the stairs, sensing the tension immediately. Seraphina was sitting on the sofa, her posture stiff. Opposite her sat a woman I hadn’t met.

She was dressed in expensive silks, dripping with gold. She had the arrogant air of someone who had been in power for a long time.

Amelia,Seraphina said, her voice tight. This is your Aunt, Lyra Drake. From the Drake Pack.

Lyra turned her sharp eyes on me. She looked me up and down with obvious distaste.

So this is the niece who just came back?Lyra scoffed. You act high and mighty for a stray. I sent for you last night, and you didn’t even show your face.

I didn’t stop walking. I moved past her and sat on the sofa opposite them. I didn’t even look at her. I focused on adjusting my cuff.

I’m sorry, who are you again?I asked, my voice bored. I don’t make a habit of entertaining strangers who demand my presence. Especially those with cheap perfume.

Lyra’s face turned a violent shade of red. She shot to her feet, her finger pointing accusingly

at me.

You uneducated brat!she shrieked. Seraphina, look at what

you

raised!

*Let me rip her throat out,* Ava growled in my head. The wolf was pacing, agitated by the disrespect.

I didn’t silence her. Instead, I let a sliver of Ava’s power leak out.

My eyes flashed gold. A heavy, predatory aura flooded the room. I stood up slowly and took a step toward Lyra, invading her personal space.

She froze, her eyes widening.

Careful, Auntie,I whispered, a low growl threading through my words. My mother is too polite to say it, but I’m not. Keep barking, and I might just bite.”

Lyra stumbled back a halfstep, intimidated by the raw Alpha power rolling off me.

Seraphina stood up then. She moved between us, but she didn’t face me. She faced Lyra.

She’s not uneducated, Lyra. She just has higher standards than you,Seraphina said. Her voice was calm but hit like a hammer. And she’s rightyou don’t demand an Alpha heir’s presence like she’s a servant. You are the one being disrespectful here.

Lyra gaped at her, stunned.

Where is the meek woman I used to know?Lyra spat. When did you become so sharptongued?

Seraphina smiled faintly. There was steel in her eyes I hadn’t seen before.

I have Amelia to thank for that,” Seraphina replied. I used to think backing down would bring peace. But now I understand. In our world, if you are too weak, you just get eaten alive.
