“Ronan is a cornered beast right now,” I said, leaning back in the chair. “Or rather, a lone wolf who has lost the protection of his pack.”

I looked across the desk at Theodore. His eyes were focused on me.

“Theron didn’t show up when Ronan was taken last night,” I continued my analysis. “Do not expect that old man to pull any strings for him today.”

Theodore nodded slowly.

“So, the person who took Ronan must be someone else in the pack,” I concluded. “Someone who wants to use him against you.”

“I agree,” Theodore said, his voice calm. “Marcus is already investigating. We are checking if it is my uncle Magnus or my cousin Garrett.”

I felt a surge of adrenaline. This was a perfect opportunity for a counterattack.

I stood up and leaned over the desk. I reached out and grabbed Theodore’s tie firmly.

I pulled him forward, forcing his face close to mine. Our noses were almost touching.

“Listen, Theo,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “If you dare keep me in the dark under the banner of ‘protecting me‘, I will make you regret it.”

His eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t pull away.

“If you think you can handle everything alone and exclude me,” I added, “then you have forgotten

who I am.”

I smiled, a proud and dangerous curve of my lips.

“We are partners,” I declared. “No matter what we face, either we win together, or we overturn this world together.”

Theodore looked at me with deep fascination. The coldness in his eyes melted away, replaced by a

smile.

“I promise,” he whispered. “Everything will be according to your arrangement.”

I released his tie and smoothed it out.

I used every connection I had to find the hotel where Derek was staying. I knew Victor had passed the girl to him.

I took a deep breath. I knew I was about to face the wrath of the Crimson family, but I had to do

this.

I brought two burly pack warriors with me as bodyguards. We went straight to the penthouse suite and rang the doorbell.

The door swung open. Derek stood there, wearing only a bath towel around his waist.

The arrogant Alpha froze when he saw me.

I didn’t give him a chance to react. I signaled my bodyguards, and we rushed into the room, slamming the door behind us.

Derek recovered from his shock.

“Ethan Stone, what do you want?” he roared. “Do you want to die?”

I ignored the furious Alpha completely. My gaze swept past him to the large bed.

Skylar was curled up in the corner, her clothes torn and disheveled. There was a clear slap mark on her face, and she was trembling violently.

I didn’t say a word. I strode forward and grabbed Skylar’s wrist.

“Come with me,” I said, my voice deep.

Derek exploded with rage. His eyes flashed gold as he tried to block my path.

“Bastard!” he screamed. “You dare steal the woman I have my eyes on!”

“Stop him,” I ordered my bodyguards coldly.

The warriors stepped in front of the roaring beast. I protected Skylar and walked quickly out of the room, leaving Derek’s murderous curses behind us.

The elevator doors slid shut, cutting off the noise from the hallway.

I let out a heavy breath that had been stuck in my chest. I knew I had completely offended that

madman Derek today.

Beside me, Skylar was still in shock. She looked at me with

wide eyes.

“Thank you,” she whispered. “But… why did you risk offending the Crimson family to save me?”

I was silent for a moment.

“It was Amelia who asked me to come,” I answered stiffly.

Skylar’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Is it the lady who dared to confront Victor at the auction?” she asked excitedly. “Does she think I

have commercial value?”

I shook my head, looking at the metal doors.

“No, this is not just for business,” I said. “Amelia hates men like Victor and Derek. She hates men who think power gives them the right to trample on women.”

I paused, remembering the look in Amelia’s eyes when she mentioned this girl.

“She saw ambition and fire in your eyes,” I told her. “She said a she–wolf with unyielding eyes like yours shouldn’t be ruined by trash like that.”

Skylar’s eyes turned red. Tears swirled in them.

“Please,” she said, her voice trembling. “You must thank her for me.”

A bitter smile appeared on my face.

“I am not qualified to accept thanks for her,” I said hoarsely. “We have… deep conflicts. She might never forgive me.”

Skylar looked at me. She saw the defeat in my posture.

“Then use this as the start of your self–redemption,” she said softly. “Do not do it to ask for her forgiveness. Do it so you can live with yourself in the future.”

Skylar’s words hit my heart like a heavy hammer.

I remembered Amelia claiming she wouldn’t kill us, but wanted to watch us lose everything. The poison she gave me was likely just a punishment, not a death sentence.

If that was the case, I decided to listen to Skylar.

On the way back to the Stone River Pack, my Beta called. He reminded me that an expensive handbag I ordered had arrived at the office.

“Go to the office first,” I told the driver.

I retrieved the gift bag and returned to the pack house with Skylar. I held the handle tightly, feeling a humble expectation rising in my chest.

Not long after we arrived, Amelia’s car pulled up.

I stood there, clutching the bag with the luxury logo. My knuckles turned white from the grip.

Amelia got out of the car. She didn’t even look at me.

It was as if I were a lifeless stone statue. She walked right past me and went straight to Skylar, who was shrinking back near the entrance.

Amelia took off her coat and draped it over the girl’s shoulders.

“Don’t fear,” Amelia said, her voice incredibly soft. “You are safe now.”

Only after settling Skylar did Amelia finally turn around.

Her cold gaze fell on me. Then, it drifted down to the gift bag in my hand.
