It was a twist of fate that one of Penelope Blackwood’s “close friends” happened to be at The
Neon bar that night. She spotted Damien immediately. Like a shark scenting blood in the water,
she pulled out her phone. Her fingers flew across the screen, texting Penelope that her foolish
brother was making a scene.
On the edge of the dance floor, the tension had already snapped. Damien stood chest–to–chest
with Carlos Drake.
“A delivery boy?” Carlos scoffed, his voice loud enough to draw stares. “Is the Blackwood family
destitute?”
Damien’s face flushed red, but he held his ground. “My father, Bernard, wants me to build character. I am learning humility.”
“Humility?” Carlos let out a harsh, grating laugh. “You’re a joke. From the moment you offended the Drake family, you were finished. The Blackwood family will cut you off like rotting trash.”
“Who are you to speak for my family?” Damien shot back.
Penelope’s friend leaned in, whispering urgently to Damien. “That is Carlos Drake. The Alpha’s
uncle. He is second only to the Alpha in status here.”
Damien didn’t even blink. He looked coldly at the drunk man. “I don’t care who he is. No dignified
male would stand here and use such filthy language to insult Amelia.”
Carlos’s face turned purple with rage. “You want to die? I will crush you and that bitch Amelia
together!”
At the mention of Amelia’s name being sullied again, Damien’s eyes flashed a brilliant emerald green. His wolf, Finn, roared in his mind.
“You dare insult Amelia to my face?” Damien roared. “I won’t wait for later. I’ll shut your mouth right
now!”
Damien pulled his arm back and drove his fist into Carlos’s face.
Natasha hadn’t expected Damien to react so violently over a single sentence. She immediately raised her phone, hitting record.
Carlos might have been from a powerful family, but he had spent years indulging in debauchery.

His body was out of shape and wasted by alcohol. He was no match for Damien, who had been training as a warrior and working manual labor.
Within seconds, Carlos was on the floor.
Damien straddled him, grabbing the collar of his expensive silk shirt. He rained punches down on the older man.
“Say her name again!” Damien shouted, landing another blow. “Is she someone you can curse? Is she?”
Nearby, Penelope’s friend watched in shock, typing furiously. She sent a play–by–play to Penelope.
*Damien is beating Carlos Drake. It’s brutal.*
Penelope’s reply came instantly: *Let him rot. Father can use this to kick him out for good.*
The friend typed back: *But he’s fighting Carlos Drake. And he’s doing it to defend Amelia’s honor.
He’s screaming about protecting her reputation.*
There was a pause. Then Penelope’s attitude did a one–eighty.
*That idiot is seeking death,* Penelope replied. *I’m coming. I have to clean up this mess before he destroys us all.*
Natasha finished recording the video. Her finger hovered over the ‘send‘ button. She looked at the
screen, watching Damien fight like a madman for his ex–mate.
A cold smirk touched her lips.
*Let Amelia see this? No way,* Natasha thought. *Damien thinks a fistfight fixes the past? This
would just annoy her. Amelia doesn’t need a toxic ex disturbing her peace.*
Natasha deleted the video.
Damien, panting heavily, finally stood up. Carlos was groaning on the floor. Damien pulled out his phone, his eyes scanning the crowd.
“I need to call Amelia,” he muttered.
Natasha rolled her eyes. She shoved her phone into her bag.
“Stop acting like a hero,” she said in a bored tone. “I just got a text from Amelia. She left ten minutes ago. She didn’t even mention you. The audience for your little show is gone.”
The light in Damien’s eyes died instantly. He looked down at the crumpled burger bag in his hand. He felt a surge of frustration at missing her again, but it quickly faded into a hollow sadness.

He thrust the bag toward Natasha. “Since she’s gone, you eat it.”
He turned to leave.
But as he passed Carlos, a bloody hand shot out and gripped his ankle.

“You… you think you can leave?” Carlos spat, blood bubbling past his lips. “I called my nephew. Griffin is coming. You won’t walk out of here alive.”
Damien kicked his leg free, looking down with Alpha pride. “Fine. I won’t go. I want to see if your
nephew is really as high and mighty as you say.”
Natasha groaned. *Is he brain–dead?*
“Are you incapable of understanding human speech, or is your brain just muscle?” Natasha crossed her arms, sneering. “Griffin Drake is a psycho. Staying here isn’t brave; it’s suicide. Don’t expect me
to collect your corpse.”
Damien ignored her. His wolf was agitated, refusing to back down.
Seeing that the thick–headed idiot wouldn’t budge, Natasha stepped back. She pulled out her
phone and texted Theodore.
*Your rival is seeking death. The Drakes are making a move. If you want to manage the scene,
come now. Location sent.*
Twenty minutes later, the bar doors slammed open.
Griffin Drake strode in, surrounded by black–clad bodyguards. The music died. The temperature in
the room seemed to drop to freezing.
Natasha immediately backed away, gripping a heavy wine bottle. She scanned the room for
emergency exits. She wasn’t going to die for these idiots‘ egos.
Carlos scrambled up from the floor, stumbling toward his nephew. He pointed a shaking finger at Damien. “Griffin! Look what he did! Kill him! This boy doesn’t know his place!”
Griffin’s cold grey eyes landed on Damien.
Damien straightened his spine. “I am the heir to the Blackwood Pack. If you touch me, you declare
war on my family.”
*Oh god,* Natasha thought. *Playing the daddy card in front of Griffin Drake? It’s like telling a shark
your father is a fisherman.*
Griffin’s lip curled into a cruel smile. “Don’t talk about a pack you haven’t inherited. Even if your father stood here right now, I would still touch you.”

Griffin was in a foul mood. First Amelia, now this exile from the Blackwoods. The Drake family
authority was being tested. He needed to make an example of him.
He didn’t even lift a finger. He just tilted his head.
A massive bodyguard blurred into motion. He slammed a heavy kick into the back of Damien’s
knee.
*Crack.*
Damien grunted, forced down onto one knee.
Griffin looked at his uncle, bored. “Uncle Carlos. Pay him back ten–fold.”
Carlos’s eyes lit up with malicious glee. “That’s my boy!”
With a savage grin, Carlos stepped forward and drove his boot hard into Damien’s ribs.
