Theron watched the heavy doors of the van slam shut, taking Isla and the imposter away.
The reality of his situation crashed down on him like an avalanche.
He realized with terrifying clarity that he was next.
The prospect of rotting in a dark dungeon or a high–security asylum for the rest of his life terrified him.
The arrogant Alpha, who had always held his head high, suddenly crumbled.
He shrank into himself, his posture submissive and pathetic.
“Theodore, son, please,” Theron pleaded, his voice trembling.
He took a step forward, hands open to show he was no threat.
“I admit I was wrong to hide Isla from you. That was a mistake, I know.”
He looked frantically between Theodore and Marcus.
“But I swear on the Moon Goddess, I never ordered them to hurt you!”
“I had nothing to do with the kidnapping that took your legs!”
Theron’s eyes were wide and desperate.
“It was all Isla! She went mad because she knew she was going to prison.”
“She was trying to drive a wedge between us, father and son!”
He spat on the ground where Isla had been.
“She is just like her mother, Bianca. Vicious, manipulative, born to sow discord!”
A low, vibrating growl tore through the air.
Theodore’s golden eyes flashed with lethal intensity.
Logan, his wolf, surged forward in his mind, furious at the mention of his mother.
Theron flinched violently, raising his hands in surrender.

“Okay! Okay! I shouldn’t have said that!”
He looked at the murderous intent in his son’s eyes and cowered.
“The affair was my fault,” Theron admitted hurriedly, sweat beading on his forehead.
“But she seduced me! I was weak!”
He tried to wash his hands of the guilt, shifting his weight nervously.
“These past three years… I only brought those illegitimate children back out of pity.”
“I didn’t know they would become so arrogant.”
“They forgot their place and dared to harm the true Alpha heir.”

Theron took a cautious step closer, his face twisting into a mask of pleading sincerity.
“You have to believe me, Theodore. In my heart, you are the only son who matters.”
He forced a smile, trying to look paternal.
“I will make it up to you. I promise.”
“I will fulfill my duties as a father.”
“I will throw you and Amelia the grandest Mating Ceremony the Northern Territories have ever
seen!”
He glanced at Amelia, trying to appeal to her.
“And when you have children… I will help you raise the pups. I will be the best grandfather.”
Amelia didn’t even raise her voice.
A cold, sharp sneer curled her lips.
She looked down at Theron with the pity one might show a dying insect.
“You actually have the audacity to assume you will breathe the same air as my children,” she said.
Her voice was calm, but it cut deeper than any knife.
“Theron, my pups will only know your name as a cautionary tale.”
“A story we tell them to explain what happens to weak, pathetic men.”
She turned her head slightly to Marcus.

Marcus moved instantly.
He pulled a set of heavy restraints from his belt.
Theron began to panic, struggling as Marcus grabbed his arms.
“No! You can’t do this!” Theron shouted.
“Theodore! Think about it! You’ve sent your brother away, now your father?”
“You will be completely alone in this world!”
Marcus didn’t let him finish.
He shoved a rough cloth into Theron’s mouth, silencing his manipulation.

With a rough jerk, Marcus dragged the struggling former Alpha away like a bag of garbage.
(Amelia’s POV)
The courtyard fell silent.
I walked over to the wheelchair and crouched down..
Theodore’s golden eyes were still dark with lingering rage.
I placed my hands on his knees, grounding him.
“Theo,” I said softly.
“According to the clues we have, your real brother, Jasper Calder, should still be alive.”
His gaze snapped to mine, a flicker of hope igniting in the gold.
“We will find him,” I promised.
“I will help you look. We will reunite your family.”
Theodore’s hand trembled as he reached out to cover mine.
He lifted my hand to his lips, placing a reverent kiss on my knuckles.
“I really have no one but you now,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
Seeing this powerful, terrifying Alpha look so vulnerable broke my heart.
I could feel his pain through our bond.

I reached up and firmly gripped his chin, forcing him to look directly at me.
“Look at me, Theo,” I commanded gently.
“You are not alone.”
“You have me. That is enough.”
My thumb caressed his jawline.
“We will build a pack so strong that no one will dare touch us.”
“We will be the legend itself.”
Theodore stared at me for a moment, stunned.
Then, a brilliant smile broke across his face, lighting up the gloom.
By the time I returned to Starlight Entertainment, the sky was bleeding into twilight.
Anya met me at the door, looking anxious.
“Miss Stone, Caleb has been waiting in your office for two hours,” she whispered.
I pushed the door open.
Caleb was sitting on the sofa, hunched over.
He looked nothing like the arrogant pop star he usually was.
He looked like a stray dog caught in a storm.
When he saw me, he shot up from his seat.
“Amelia!” he cried out, his voice hoarse.
I walked past him without a glance and sat in
my
chair.
“Speak,” I said coldly.
Caleb flinched at my tone but didn’t leave.
He saw a glimmer of hope in the fact that I hadn’t thrown him out immediately.
“I… I wanted to apologize,” he stammered.
“About the fans attacking you. I’m so sorry.”
“I’ve already issued a statement. I cleared up the misunderstanding.”

He took a step toward the desk, wringing his hands.
“I want to make it up to you, Amelia.”
“I can write songs for you. You know I’m talented.”
He looked at me with eager eyes.
“I can be your ghostwriter. I don’t need credit. I just want to help.”
I couldn’t help it.
A short, sharp laugh escaped my lips.
It was the funniest joke I had heard all day.
I picked up a pen and twirled it lazily between my fingers.
“You think I lack ability?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Caleb, do you realize who you are talking to?”
“I am the Shadow Healer Lily. I am a bestselling author.”
I shook my head, marveling at his ignorance.

“Your arrogance is like a frog sitting at the bottom of a well, thinking the sky is only as big as the opening.”
Caleb’s face flushed red.
He looked down at his shoes, shame radiating off him.
“I… I just wanted to make amends,” he mumbled.
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the desk.
“Oh, Caleb,” I purred, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
“Do you really think I need your help?”
“It’s cute, really.”
“I don’t hate you because I’m ‘sad‘ or ‘hurt‘ by you.”
I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes.
“I’m just too lazy to hate you.”

Caleb turned pale, as if I had slapped him.
He started to stammer, trying to explain himself again.
“I didn’t mean to make you angry! Please, just give me a chance!”
I stood up abruptly.
I walked to the door and yanked it open.
“Let me guess,” I said, cutting through his noise.
“Ethan is dying. The money is gone.”
I looked him up and down with open disgust.
“You need a savior. You want me to play the role of the dutiful sister and clean up your
mess.”
Caleb froze, his mouth hanging open.
I had hit the bullseye.
“No,” I said firmly.
“Go find a job, Caleb.”
“Or starve. It makes no difference to me.”
My eyes hardened into sapphires of ice.
“Don’t be like Celine.”
“You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
“In this world, survival is for the fittest. Your greed just makes me sick.”
I pointed to the hallway.
“Get out of my office.”
