Lucas stood in the corner of the dimly lit VIP room, his posture hunched and subservient. A sycophantic grin plastered his face as he rubbed his hands together, approaching Griffin with the eagerness of a dog seeking a treat.
He had been stewing in resentment over Natasha, that loud–mouthed girl who constantly defended Amelia in the group chats.
“Mr. Drake, I have an idea,” Lucas whispered, his voice dripping with malice. “Why don’t we take Natasha?”
Griffin swirled the amber liquid in his glass, his eyes cold and uninterested until Lucas continued.
“It’s the perfect test,” Lucas urged, stepping closer. “We kidnap her. If Amelia doesn’t come to save her ‘ally,’ she loses the respect of her followers. She looks weak and selfish.”
Lucas’s grin widened, revealing his yellowed teeth. “But if she does come… that’s when we take them down in one fell swoop.”
Griffin paused. He looked at Lucas, considering the plan. A cruel smile slowly spread across his face.
“Not bad, Lucas,” Griffin murmured. “If this works, I’ll make sure you get an invitation to ‘The Eclipse‘ next year.”
Lucas froze. His eyes lit up with a greedy, feverish light.
“The Eclipse?” he stammered, his breath hitching.
It was the Drake family’s most exclusive, depraved underground party. Rumors said that at The Eclipse, werewolves could unleash their darkest, most primal desires without any legal or moral consequences. It was a haven of absolute lawlessness.
Griffin didn’t look at him. He stared into his glass, watching the shadows refract through the expensive whiskey.
“Our labs overseas just sent over a new compound,” Griffin said softly, almost to himself. “It destroys the will. It turns even the proudest Alpha into a mindless doll.”

“When we catch Amelia, I’ll inject her with it,” Griffin promised to the empty air. “Then I’ll throw her into the center of The Eclipse. I’ll let the guests do whatever they want with the high and mighty daughter of the Stone family. I will shatter her pride into dust.”
(Amelia’s POV)
I walked through the front doors of the Stone River Pack House an hour later than usual. The house was quiet, save for the soft tapping of a stylus on glass.
My mother, Seraphina, sat at the dining table. She was focused on her tablet, designing an intricate fondant cake for an upcoming celebration.
“You’re late, darling,” she said warmly, looking up.
“Work ran long,” I replied, glancing toward the closed study door.
My father, Jaxon, wasn’t there. He was still in his office, juggling the demands of Umbra Analytics and the pack’s administrative duties. He was working himself to the bone to protect this family.
I felt a pang of fierce protectiveness. I needed to move faster. I needed to take the reins so he could finally rest.
I sat down across from my mother. The staff had kept dinner warm for me.
The table was laden with my favorites–roast chicken with crispy skin and a rich truffle risotto. The scent was comforting, a stark contrast to the cold schemes of the business world.
“This reminds me of the old days,” I said casually, serving myself a portion. “Back in Meadow. Brook, I used to spend hours in the woods foraging for wild berries and vegetables just to have something fresh.”
Seraphina’s face fell. Her amber eyes filled with instant tears.
“Oh, Amelia,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “My poor baby. I promise, you will never have to suffer like that again.”
She thought I was complaining. She saw a victim.
I didn’t want her pity.
I picked up my knife and fork, cutting into a piece of venison steak with precise, deliberate movements. The metal scraped softly against the china.
I looked up, meeting her tearful gaze with dry, burning eyes.

“Mom, don’t pity me,” I said, my voice steady and strong. “Those years didn’t break me; they sharpened me. I know how to hunt, and that’s why we’re going to win this war.”
Inside my chest, Ava let out a contented rumble. She vibrated with pride at our shared strength.
After dinner, I retreated to the greenhouse. The air was thick with the earthy scent of herbs.
I spent twenty minutes processing a batch of Valerian root. My hands moved with practiced efficiency, cleaning and prepping the calming herb. It was meditative, a way to quiet the noise before the storm.
Once finished, I washed up and finally checked my phone.
A message from Natasha popped up first.
*Natasha: That creep Damien hasn’t bothered me since you put him in his place. I think he’s finally scared off.*
I smirked. Good.
I opened the so–called “elite” werewolf group chat. It was buzzing with activity.
Lucas was there, performing like a pathetic buffoon.
*Lucas L: Everyone knows the Stone family is cash–poor right now. Amelia Stone is dreaming if she thinks she can outbid us.*
*Lucas L: Gale Entertainment has secured 300 million in liquid assets. We are taking that copyright. Starlight is a sinking ship.*
I watched the messages scroll by, his arrogance practically leaking through the screen.
Before I could even type a response, a link appeared in the chat. It was from Natasha.
It was a direct link to a pet supply store’s clearance sale. specifically for “Anti–Bite Dog Muzzles” and “No–Bark Shock Collars.”
*Natasha C: @Lucas L thought these might suit you. Since you love barking so much.*
I let out a short laugh. The girl had fire.
My eyes narrowed as I looked at Lucas’s previous insults. I wasn’t going to let Natasha fight all my battles.
I tapped the keyboard, my fingers flying.

*Amelia Stone: @Lucas L, make sure to get the Extra Large size. Based on how much noise you’re making, a standard one won’t hold that jaw shut.*
I hit send. I didn’t wait for his reply. I was the hunter, not the prey.
I closed the chat app and dialed Skylar’s number.
“Hello?” Skylar’s voice came through instantly. It was thin and shaky.
“Be ready at 9 AM tomorrow,” I said without preamble. “You’re going to the meeting with Anya.”
“Amelia… I…” Skylar stammered. I could hear her hyperventilating. “I can’t do this. There are going to be so many big shots. What if I mess up?”
I didn’t coo at her. I didn’t tell her it would be okay. I dropped my voice to a low, Alpha timbre. “Skylar, stop shaking,” I commanded. “I didn’t verify your talent so you could choke at the finish line. Do you want to be a writer, or do you want to be a legend? Because tomorrow, you
decide.”
Silence stretched on the line.
“It’s a Blind Pitch,” I explained, my tone hard. “They won’t know who you are. They will only hear your words. Make them listen.”
I heard Skylar take a deep, shuddering breath. The fear in her breathing was replaced by a sudden, sharp intake of resolve.
“I’ll do it,” she said, her voice firm. “I’ll win.”
“Good.”
I hung up and scrolled to the next contact. Theodore.
I pressed the call button. He picked up on the first ring.
“Amelia,” his deep, magnetic voice filled my ear.
Ava’s ears perked up instantly in my mind. She paced excitedly, reacting to his sound like a cat to catnip.
“Pick me up tomorrow at ten,” I said, leaning back against my pillows. “We’re going to the copyright meeting.”
“Going to make a scene?” he asked, amusement coloring his tone.

“I’m going to slap that perpetual runner–up Griffin in the face,” I replied. “I need my fiancé there to watch the show.”
Theodore chuckled. It was a rich, dark sound that vibrated through the phone.
“My pleasure,” he said softly.
A shiver of electricity shot up my spine. It was purely physiological, a reaction to the raw power inherent in his voice.
I gripped the phone tighter. My voice dropped, becoming languid and teasing.
“Speaking of voices, Theodore… yours is really quite captivating,” I purred. “I’m very curious… just how sexy will that voice sound when you’re ordering me around in bed?”
There was a pause. Then, the sound of heavy, meaningful breathing came from the other end of the line.
