Alpha's Abandoned Daughter is the Secret Heiress novel Chapter 27

Chapter 27: Ronan and Isla

Chapter 27: Ronan and Isla

(Theodore’s POV)

Isla’s face was a perfect mask of concern as she stepped closer to my wheelchair. The false sympathy in her eyes made my stomach turn.

I’m just worried about you, Theodore, she said softly. The Stone River Pack might cancel

the engagement because of yourcondition. That would be so humiliating for both you and the entire Crimson Moon Pack.

Her words dripped with venom disguised as honey. I remained silent, watching her performance unfold.

Ronan stepped forward with a frown. Isla, you shouldn’t speak so bluntly about our brother’s situation.

His rebuke was as hollow as her concern. They were playing their parts in a wellrehearsed show meant to break me down.

Isla’s eyes widened in mock innocence. I’m sorry, I just can’t bear to think of Theodore being rejected by the Stone River Pack. It would be such a public disgrace.

She leaned closer, her voice dropping to a theatrical whisper. Especially with those rumors about yourfertility issues. Everyone knows an Alpha who can’t father children is no Alpha at all.

I felt dormant Logan stir within me, his anger rising like a dark tide.

You’ve been increasingly disrespectful lately, Isla,I said, my voice calm and measured. You seem to have forgotten your place as merely an adopted daughter of the Crimson Moon Pack.

Ronan’s eyes widened slightly. He hadn’t expected me to respond so directly.

You need to be reminded of proper conduct,I continued, watching Isla’s face change as my words sank in.

Her expression shifted from false sympathy to genuine displeasure. The reminder of her status as an adopted daughter clearly struck a nerve.

Marcus,I called, not taking my eyes off Isla.

My Beta appeared instantly at my side. Yes, Alpha Theodore?

Isla needs to be disciplined for her disrespect. Handle it.

Without hesitation, Marcus stepped forward and delivered a sharp slap across Isla’s face. The sound echoed in the hallway as she cried out and fell to the floor.

Ronan moved as if to intervene, but stopped when he met my gaze.

Let me remind you, Isla,I said calmly as she clutched her reddening cheek. You are not a true daughter of the Crimson Alpha line. You’re an omega orphan Ronan brought back from a

shelter.

Her eyes filled with hatred as I continued. If I hadn’t taken pity on you, you wouldn’t be living in luxury within the Crimson Moon Pack. Remember that before you speak out of turn again.

Ronan finally found his voice. Brother, surely this is excessive. Isla was only making a small joke.

I turned to him with a cold smile. A joke is only funny when I find it amusing. Just like a dog only barks when its master allows it.

Isla glared at me, her face a mask of humiliation and rage, but she remained silent. She knew better than to challenge me further.

Ronan cleared his throat. Isla, you must be more careful with your jokes in the future. Apologize to Theodore.

I’msorry, she forced out between clenched teeth.

I maintained my mild smile. Recognizing your mistakes is the first step to improvement. I’m glad we had this little chat.

With a slight nod to Marcus, I allowed him to wheel me away from the seething pair.

Once we were safely out of earshot, Marcus growled under his breath. Ungrateful wretches, both of them. If it weren’t for you constantly pushing to bring your brother back, Isla would still be in that orphanage, and Ronan would be wandering outside our territory.

His hands tightened on the handles of my wheelchair. And now they hate you for it. Ronan even tried to kill you for the Alpha King heir position.

I let my smile fade, running my fingers along the armrest of my wheelchair. The cool metal under my fingertips grounded me as I contemplated my brother’s betrayal.

I don’t understand why Ronan hates me so much,” I said quietly. If he had simply told me he

wanted the heir position from the beginning, I might have been willing to give it to him.

I stared down at my useless legs. But now that he’s willing to take my life for it, I can no longer consider brotherly affection.

(Ronan’s POV)

I watched Theodore’s wheelchair disappear around the corner, my face carefully neutral until he was gone. Only then did I allow myself to breathe normally again.

Isla scrambled to her feet, her eyes blazing with fury. How dare he have me struck? And to say I’m not the Alpha’s daughter!

She clutched my arm desperately. I am Theron’s daughter! When can I finally reveal my true identity? I’m sick of pretending!

I pulled her into a comforting embrace, keeping my voice low. Patience, sister. Once I’ve completely replaced Theodore as heir, and we’ve permanently removed him from the picture, you can openly claim your rightful place.

Her fingers dug into my arms. Promise me you’ll kill Theodore for this humiliation.

We will have our revenge,” I assured her, glancing around to ensure we weren’t overheard. But we can’t move too quickly now. Theodore already suspects me, and we need to be cautious.”

Isla’s face contorted with hatred. He should have died the first time.

I stroked her hair soothingly. The Alpha King still hasn’t officially announced the heir succession. That means he’s wavering, just as we planned. We’re already halfway to our goal.
