Chapter 332: It Was Glenda
Chapter 332: It Was Glenda
(Author’s POV)
“Is Hugh York your son?”
The voice on the other end of the line was cold and professional.

Tanya’s mind went blank instantly. The world seemed to tilt on its axis, the familiar surroundings of the Gale Pack mansion dissolving into a grey haze.
It took a long moment for her to find her voice. Her throat felt constricted, as if an invisible hand were choking her.
“Yes,” she whispered, her voice trembling uncontrollably. “Yes, he is.”
“I am calling from the Northern Territories Medical Center,” the voice continued without a hint of
sympathy. “Mr. York was involved in a severe vehicular incident at the intersection of Highway 4 and the
access road.”
Tanya gripped the phone so hard her knuckles turned white.
“He died on impact,” the stranger stated flatly. “The condition of the body is… extreme. We require a family
member to identify the remains immediately.”
The phone slipped from Tanya’s numb fingers and clattered onto the marble floor.
She felt as though her heart had been seized by a giant, crushing hand. The pain was physical, sharp and
agonizing.
Her knees buckled. She swayed, grabbing the banister to keep from collapsing completely.
Jade stood a few feet away, watching closely. She saw the color drain entirely from Tanya’s face, leaving it
a mask of sheer terror.
It was a look of devastation Jade had never seen on this woman before.
Tanya didn’t say a word to Jade. She didn’t even seem to register Jade’s presence anymore.
With a strangled sob, Tanya pushed herself off the banister and stumbled toward the door. She moved like
a drunkard, blind to everything but her panic.
Jade narrowed her eyes. Curiosity warred with the lingering disgust she felt for her stepmother.
What could possibly break a woman like Tanya?
Jade grabbed her bag and followed. She had to see this for herself.

The drive to the Medical Center was a blur of speeding tires and reckless turns.

Jade followed Tanya’s car, parking just as the older woman sprinted toward the emergency entrance.
By the time Jade reached the lower level, she knew. The heavy scent of disinfectant couldn’t mask the underlying metallic tang of blood.
This was the morgue.
Tanya stumbled through the double doors. Her high heels clicked frantically against the cold tile floor.
Butler Harold stood near a gurney in the center of the room. He looked broken, his usual stoic demeanor
shattered. Tears streamed down his face.
“Madam,” Harold choked out, stepping forward to support her.
“Get away from me!” Tanya shrieked.
She shoved him aside with surprising strength. Her eyes were fixed on the white sheet covering the figure
on the bed.
Her hands shook violently as she reached out. She gripped the edge of the fabric.
She ripped it back.
A collective gasp sucked the air out of the room. Even the medical staff looked away.
The body was a ruin.
The expensive suit Hugh had worn was reduced to bloody rags, matted into raw flesh. Limbs were twisted
at impossible angles.
But the head was the worst.
It was completely crushed. The skull had been flattened, destroying any semblance of human features. It was a gore–filled nightmare.
Jade stood in the doorway, her hand flying to her mouth to stifle a scream.
Yet, Tanya knew.
A mother knows her child, even when they are broken beyond recognition. She saw the birthmark on his neck. She saw the familiar shape of his hands.
“No,” Tanya wailed.
The sound was primal. It tore from her throat, raw and bleeding.
“Hugh! My son!”
She collapsed onto the corpse. She didn’t care about the blood. She hugged the broken body, her screams echoing off the sterile walls.
For a long time, only her agonizing cries filled the room.

Then, the weeping stopped abruptly.
Tanya jerked upright. Her face was smeared with her son’s blood, her eyes wild.

She spun around and lunged at Harold. She grabbed him by the lapels of his jacket, shaking him violently.
“Why didn’t you protect him?” she screamed, spit flying into Harold’s face. “You were supposed to keep him safe! Why is he dead?”
Harold fell to his knees, sobbing openly.
“I tried, Madam! I tried!” Harold cried. “He was hysterical. He threatened to jump if I didn’t stop the car. I had to pull over.”
Tanya slapped him. “Then why is he like this?”
“He jumped out,” Harold stammered, terrified. “As soon as his feet hit the road, a car came from behind. It
hit him.”
Harold’s voice dropped to a horrified whisper.
“It didn’t stop, Madam. The driver… she reversed.”
Tanya froze. The air in the room turned ice cold.
“She aligned the tires with his head,” Harold wept. “And she accelerated. She crushed him on purpose.”
Tanya’s expression twisted. The grief vanished, replaced by a demon of pure vengeance.
“Who?” she hissed. “Who did this?”
“The Enforcers caught her,” Harold said, trembling. “It was a crazy woman. She was laughing. Her name is
Glenda.”
*Glenda.*
Jade, standing in the shadows of the doorway, felt her blood run cold.
She knew that name.
Tanya released Harold, letting him slump to the floor. She turned back to the body, her eyes dry now. They burned with a terrifying, poisonous light.
“Call Arthur,” Tanya commanded, her voice deadly calm. “Tell him to come collect his son.”
She smoothed her hair, though her hands were stained red.
“I am going to the Enforcer station,” she said. “I will make sure this Glenda begs for death. I will peel the skin from her bones myself.”
Tanya turned and marched toward the exit.
She stopped when she saw Jade blocking the hallway.

“You,” Tanya screeched, her composure cracking. “Did you know? Is this your doing?”
Jade stared at the woman who had made her life hell. She looked at the blood on Tanya’s face, the madness in her eyes.
And she laughed.
It was a cold, sharp sound.
“Me?” Jade asked, shaking her head. “I don’t have the stomach for this.”
She stepped closer, looming over the diminished woman.
“But congratulations, Tanya. It seems karma has finally found you.”
Tanya’s face twisted in fury. “You bitch-”
“Save your breath,” Jade interrupted coldly. “Hugh is dead. Your only son is gone.”
Jade smiled, a cruel, satisfied curve of her lips.

“That means I am the only heir to the Gale Pack now. You have nothing left. No son. No leverage. You are finished.”
Tanya let out a high–pitched scream of rage. She raised her hand to strike, but her body betrayed her. She shook too hard to follow through.
“I will kill you all!” Tanya cursed.
She shoved past Jade, stumbling down the corridor like a wounded animal seeking a fight.
Jade watched her go. She glanced back into the morgue where Harold was weeping into his phone.
She turned and followed Tanya.
Her mind was racing.
*Glenda.*
Jade remembered the conversation she had with Amelia. Griffin Drake had mentioned a subordinate
named Glenda. Jade had passed that specific detail to Amelia.
Why would Griffin’s own person kill Hugh so brutally?
It didn’t make sense. Unless…
WALL
A chill settled in Jade’s stomach.
Unless Amelia had turned her.
If Amelia had orchestrated this, it was brilliant, but dangerous.
Using Griffin’s own pawn to crush the Gale Pack heir? It was ruthless.
But if the Enforcers dug too deep, this would be classified as a contract killing. Murder in the first degree.

Jade quickened her pace, her heels clicking sharply on the floor.
She hated Tanya. She was glad Hugh was dead.
But she couldn’t let Amelia go down for this. She had to find out the truth before the Enforcers did.
