Chapter 424: Jaxon Is Take Away
Chapter 424: Jaxon is Taken Away
(Amelia’s POV)
“Mom.” I kept my voice low and steady. “Don’t worry too much. Trust me – stay home and wait. Once I find out what’s going on, I’ll call younght away”
I could hear Seraphina pulling im a slow breath on the other end.
“Okay,” she said, quieter now. “Amelia, I’ll wait at home for your call.”
“One more thing,” I said. “Sendime the number for Father’s assistant.”
“I’ll send it right now.”
I ended the call. A moment later, the number came through.
I saved it and slipped my phone into my pocket.
Theodore was already watching me when I looked up.
The warmth that had filled the room a few minutes ago had gone quiet. All four of them were still, waiting.
I kept it brief.
–
“Jaxon my father – was taken away by the police. From Stone Botanicals. I need to go find out what’s
happening.”
Chris straightened immediately. “Go. Don’t worry about us for a second.”
“Seriously,” Luke added. “If you read anything – anything at all – just say the word.”
I nodded. “Thank you.”
Theodore was already pushing back from the table.
“I’m coming with you,” he said. It wasn’t a question.
I didn’t argue. “Okay.”
He turned to the others and said, with the ease of someone who had already made up his mind, “Stay and
eat. Everything goes on my tak
Chris opened his mouth.
Theodore didn’t wait. He was already moving.
We took my car.

The city was fully lit by the time we pulled out of the restaurant’s parking lot – streetlamps and shop signs and the slow crawl of headlights stretching ahead of us. Inside the car, it was quiet.
Theodore didn’t speak.
He didn’t try to fill the silence with reassurances or questions. He just sat beside me, steady and still, and
let me have the space to think.
I was grateful for that.
By the time we reached Stone Botanicals, I had gone through every possibility I could think of. I still didn’t
have enough information to know which one was right.
I stopped the car outside the main gate and sat there for a moment.
Then I took a breath and dialed Jaxon’s assistant.
He picked up on the first ring.
“Miss Stone?”
“I’m outside,” I said. “Come meet us.”
He appeared within two minutes – a man in his early forties, rumpled jacket, the kind of exhaustion in his
face that came from a night and a day of running on nothing but tension.
He saw Theodore beside me and something in his posture eased, just slightly.
“Mr. Stone asked me to wait,” he said. “He said – if you came, I should tell you everything. He said he
trusted you to figure out what to do next.”
Something tightened in my chest.
I kept my expression even. “Then let’s go inside.”
He led us up to Jaxon’s office.
The desk was buried under paper – printed reports, flagged documents, handwritten notes in the margins.
The assistant gathered the top stack and set it in front of me.
“It started with the Cardio Trace Monitor,” he said. “The latest batch we supplied to hospitals. Three hospitals have already reported that the devices are giving false readings. Patients were misdiagnosed
based on the data.”
I picked up the first report and started reading.
I remembered Seraphina mentioning, almost in passing, that Jaxon had been up late the night before dealing with something urgent. At the time I hadn’t thought much of it.

A device malfunction alone wouldn’t bring the police in. That part didn’t add up.

I thought about Zane Jenkins. About the exposure. About how quickly things like that tended to come back around.
If someone wanted to retaliate – if the target was never Jaxon at all, but me – then Stone Botanicals was exactly the kind of pressure point they would go for.
“There’s more,” the assistant said.
I looked up.
His expression hadn’t changed, but his voice had dropped.
“This morning, a patient died. A medical accident – directly linked to the device failure.”
The room went very quiet.
“Has the root cause been identified?” I asked.
He shook his head. “Mr. Stone had the engineering team working through the night. They hadn’t found it
yet when he was arrested. After that-” He paused. “Morale collapsed. The team stopped. No one knew
who was in charge or what they were supposed to do.”
I set the report down.
“Contact the engineering director,” I said. “I want every technical staff member in the conference room in
one hour. Tonight.”
The assistant blinked. “Tonight?”
“Tonight,” I said.
Theodore said nothing during the walk to the conference room.
But when I glanced at him once, briefly, he gave me a look that said he was paying attention to everything
and had already formed his own read of the situation.
I didn’t ask him what it was yet. I needed to see the room first.
An hour later, the engineering team filed in.
There were about a dozen of them – tired, tense, moving with the careful energy of people who had been
under pressure for too long and weren’t sure what was coming next.
The Engineering Director came in last.
He was a broad–shouldered man in his fifties, the kind who had spent decades on factory floors and trusted nothing he hadn’t verified himself. He looked at me the way people sometimes did when they had

already decided the answer before the question was asked.
He didn’t sit down immediately.
“Has Mr. Stone been released?” he asked. His voice carried across the room.
