Chapter 43: Amelia’s Counterattack
Chapter 43: Amelia’s Counterattack
(Third–person’s POV)
Jaxon stepped forward, his voice firm and powerful as he defended Amelia. “Adrian, as her uncle, how much do you actually know about Amelia to be criticizing her understanding of protocol?”
His tone carried an accusatory edge. “Since you haven’t taught her a single day in her life, perhaps you shouldn’t be so quick to judge her.”
The tension in the room thickened as the guests watched the family drama unfold before
them.
Livia’s face contorted with displeasure. “It’s precisely because of attitudes like yours, Jaxon, that Amelia feels she can disregard all rules.”
She gestured dramatically around the room. “All the guests have arrived, and yet she’s nowhere to be seen. She has absolutely no sense of propriety!”
Inwardly, Livia was gloating. She knew exactly why Amelia hadn’t appeared yet. Seraphina must have informed her about the dress situation, forcing her to change out of her prepared evening gown. Custom gowns with intricate details took considerable time to change. This delay would surely humiliate Amelia in front of the pack leaders and disappoint Patriarch
Alaric.
Alpha King Gideon’s expression remained impassive, but his gaze shifted meaningfully toward Theodore.
Theodore appeared completely calm, showing no signs of concern. He trusted Amelia would handle whatever problem had arisen without falling into their trap.
Just then, a confident, vibrant voice cut through the murmurs of the crowd. “Aunt Livia, is it appropriate to speak ill of me in front of my fiancé’s grandfather and our distinguished guests simply because I’m a few minutes late due to an urgent matter?”
Amelia’s voice carried throughout the hall. “Such behavior makes one look like those who enjoy gossiping behind others‘ backs. Not exactly a display of good breeding, is it?”
Theodore immediately signaled Marcus to turn his wheelchair toward the entrance. Every head in the room swiveled in the same direction.
Collective gasps filled the banquet hall as Amelia entered, her arm linked supportively with

Patriarch Alaric’s. The room erupted into chaotic whispers when guests noticed Amelia was wearing an evening gown identical to Celine’s.
“That gown is supposed to be one–of–a–kind,” someone whispered loudly. “It’s the latest creation from an international designer master. One of them must be wearing a counterfeit.”
Jaxon shot a worried glance at Seraphina, confused as to why Amelia would knowingly wear the dress when she must have been warned about the setup.
Seraphina leaned close to her husband. “Relax and watch how she handles this,” she
whispered reassuringly.
Livia, her face burning from Amelia’s rebuke, struggled to maintain her composure. “What could possibly have delayed you? We’ve been working tirelessly to prepare this welcome banquet for you.”
Amelia guided Alaric to his seat before responding. “I was passing by when I noticed Grandfather’s wolf suddenly howling uncontrollably in his mind. I administered a couple of acupuncture points and stayed with him until he felt better.”
She fixed Livia with a pointed stare. “How interesting that you would criticize me without knowing the reason for my delay. Your scheming nature is showing, aunt Livia. It seems you’re deliberately trying to air family grievances in public.”
Alaric nodded in confirmation. “My headache is completely gone. I’m quite amazed by your medical skills, Amelia. I’ve been troubled by this condition for years, yet you resolved it with just a few needles.”
Gideon’s interest was visibly piqued. “Your medical skills are impressive, young lady.”
Alaric responded with pride. “Indeed, I’m astonished. I haven’t felt this clear–headed in years.”
“My health has been troubling me lately as well,” Gideon remarked. “During my last flare–up, Theodore spent a fortune at an auction to acquire rare medicinal herbs for me.”
Alaric smiled warmly. “Perhaps Amelia could examine you sometime. After all, we’ll soon be family.”
As the two patriarchs continued their conversation, Amelia’s gaze found Theodore. She playfully winked at him.
Theodore’s eyes never left her, the corner of his lips curving into a subtle smile, his gaze filled with delight.
Celine, who had been observing Amelia intently, caught this exchange. Jealousy and confusion surged through her. When had Amelia and Theodore met? Why were they

She couldn’t understand why Theodore had always been coldly polite to her, yet looked at Amelia with such tenderness.
Amelia turned back to Livia. “Do you have anything else to say, aunt Livia?”
Livia was speechless, stunned that Amelia had somehow managed to turn the situation around.
Alaric glared at Livia disapprovingly. “Attacking Amelia without cause at her own welcome banquet now that’s what I call improper behavior.”
–
Livia hastily tried to explain. “I was merely concerned she might embarrass the Stone River Pack-”
“Silence!” Patriarch Alaric cut her off sharply.
But Amelia wasn’t ready to let the matter drop. “Aunt Livia was hoping I’d make a fool of myself, so you would think poorly of me, Grandfather.”
Livia’s temper flared. “How dare you accuse your elder of such things in public!”
“You know perfectly well whether I’m making false accusations,” Amelia replied coolly. “If you weren’t trying to humiliate me at my own welcome banquet, why would you arrange for Celine to wear an identical evening gown?”
In her mind, Amelia’s wolf Ava whispered, “Their tricks are so childish. Let’s show them what true wisdom looks like.”
