Chapter 13
Talia’s POV
I don’t expect the night to turn ugly this fast, but the dynamics shift the moment Nick opens his mouth.
“After saying something that awful, she should apologize properly. Perhaps by getting down on her knees and begging for the Moon Goddess to spare Imema-‘
“”
I don’t bother responding, words are wasted on people like him.
I take a step to walk past Aires… and immediately realise what a huge mistake I was making when my wrist suddenly ends up in his grip.
“Talia…” Aires’s voice drops low. “I told you to apologize. Did you hear me?”

Pain shoots up my arm. I look up slowly, forcing my expression to stay calm even as my hand screams for relief.
I tilt my head back, meeting his stormy eyes. “I heard you, alright.”
Nick barks a laugh. “She heard you, Alpha! And still, she is shamelessly loyal to her stubborn pride more than her Alpha’s dommand.”

Aires’s fingers clench, sending a fresh wave of pain through my arm. “I will not repeat myself. This is your third and final warning, apologize to Imema and show your sincerity-”
you
“You know,” I say slowly, “if I kept a record of every time have told me to beg for mercy from her, could fill a book. I think the words you’ve said to me most in this marriage are ‘apologize to Imema.‘ Tell me honestly, aren’t you tired? Because I sure am.”
Aires‘ eyes narrow to slits, but I keep going.
“If you and Imema love apologies so much, should I hire a few people to follow you around and say sorry all day? It will save us all the trouble.”
Nick explodes. “You’re shameless! You’re in the wrong, and still, all you can do is talk back-?”
“If you truly think I committed a crime, call the police. Or better yet, file a grievance with the Pack Council. Let’s have a formal judgment.”
Pain floods my senses, triggering the feeling of nausea as I feel the blood drain from my face. He is going to break my wrist, and I weakly protest, trying to get the attention of people around us.
“Mr. Perseus! You are on the verge of fracturing my wrist.”

I was expecting him to relent, but instead, I was met with a cold smirk.
“Good! Then you should hurry up, because only your apology will prevent it.”
Cold sweat beads at my temples. My vision blurs, but I refuse to look weak.
“If you break it,” I say softly, “I’ll call the police. We are in the human territory, remember? I will press charges for assault. Or maybe, I should go for domestic violence, it sounds more scandalous, right?”
Black spots dance at the edge of my vision. I force my eyes to stay open, glaring at him to show how serious I am.
“I’m sure the media would love to hear how the noble CEO abuses his wife.”
His grip goes slack instantly. He has a reputation to keep as Aires Perseus, the Chairman of Gallaghan Industries.
I look down, and a blue- red ring of bruising is already booming
skin. For an instant, I see Aires’s eyes lingering on the proof of his cruelty, before Nick rushes in.

threatening you! This is just another one of her manipulative tricks!”
Richard finally moves, clamping a hand over Nick’s mouth.
“Nick! This is between the Alpha and his Luna. It is not our arena to offer advice or suggestions unless asked. So shut up and come with me.”
Nick falls silent under the Beta’s glare. Richard then looks towards Imema, his meaning clear. “Miss. Volkov, perhaps we should give them privacy.”
Imema nods, as if agreeing with him, but doesn’t take a single step.
In fact, she taps Aires‘ arm, speaking softly in his ear.
“Aires, please… Luna Talia has been under so much pressure, staying cooped up in that house. We shouldn’t take her harsh words to heart. Everyone needs to unwind-”
Meanwhile, Nick wrenches free of Richard. “Unwind? From what? Her life of luxury? Is this how this low class bitch prefers to ‘unwind‘, by roaming in bars alone?”
“Enough, Nick,” Richard growls, physically pulling him back. “We are leaving.”

Nick yanks his arm back, throwing a last venomous look my way. “Leaving, for now. But remember… you will regret crossing Imema! She’s so kind and compassionate that she keeps defending you… and you? You have such loose morals; tell me, are you really feeling better now that you’re out chasing men?”
I turn my dead–eyed stare on him. “Nick, has the title ‘bootlicker‘ lost its charm? Have you officially upgraded yourself to ‘rabid dog‘?”
His face turns purple.
“Did you hear that! She keeps running her mouth without any fear! Richard, I’m not leaving until he disciplines her.”
“Then stay,” I say, rubbing my sore wrist. “I, however, have a life to get back to.”
I take a step, and Aires’s hand clamps down on mine again. This time, his grip is not crushing, but still, I can’t escape.
It’s not pain that holds me in place, but his overwhelming Alpha will.
One look from him silences Nick’s next outburst, and Imema’s placating smile freezes on her face.
Without a word, Aires yanks me forward, shoving me through the nearest door into a dark, empty private room. The lock clicks

just as he releases me.
I stumble back a step, catching myself on the edge of a booth. The lighting is so dark that I can roughly make out his features, twisted in a sarcastic sneer.
“Is this some new game, Talia? Pretending to be a wounded yet rebellious bird just to pick my conscience? Do you think you can actually trick me into favouring you over the actual victim of the circumstances?”
I straighten, my mind filled with genuine confusion. “What are you talking about?”
A cold laugh escapes him. “The art gallery fire, and now legal threats, where are you going with this? At first, I tried to ignore your attempts at manipulating me, assuming that you will get the message sooner or later. But since when have you started going for such blatant, desperate cries for my attention?”
