Imema’s POV

If I’m being honest, I have never quite been able to figure Richard out. He is calm, courteous, the kind who charms not just women but everyone around him.

I assumed he would be the easiest one to win over among Aires’s

circle.

But I was wrong.

Beneath that gentle demeanor, Richard is the hardest to approach. Even now, I have not managed to get close to him. Every time I subtly try to badmouth Talia in front of him, he only responds with a faint smile. “I think you might have misunderstood Ms. Jackson.”

And whenever everyone else stands by my side, pointing fingers at Talia, Richard always says, “Alpha, I do not think Ms. Jackson is that kind of person. Maybe you should look into it a bit

more?”

He never blindly takes my side. No matter how hard I try, my charm never seems to sway him.

Almost six months ago, I meticulously planned a performance. I invited Aires, Nick, and Richard to watch me play the piano!

Aires and Nick were completely absorbed. Richard only maintained a faint smile, his gaze calm and unwavering.

After the performance, Nick asked Richard proudly, “So, Richard, how was Imema’s piano playing?”

Richard’s smile remained gentle. “It was lovely.”

Perhaps knowing Richard too well, Nick decided to push his luck and question him further.

“Why do I feel you were not that impressed?”

I noticed Richard’s smile turning a bit wistful. “Maybe because… I have seen a more breathtaking performance.”

“A more breathtaking–?” Nick leaned in eagerly. “Come on, Richard, all those socialites in our circle are head over heels for you, but you have not spared a glance at any of them. Be honest. Do you already have someone you like?”

Richard does not hide it. He nods calmly. “Yeah.”

“Who is it? Spill!” Nick’s eyes lit up. “Bring her around sometime. Anyone who caught your eye must be pretty extraordinary.”

Richard chuckled. “She is. She is more exceptional than any woman I have ever met.”

Even Aires, who rarely cared for gossip, perked up a little. “Which family is she from?”

Richard shakes his head. “She does not have any background. She is just ordinary.”

Nick shrugged. “If you like her, just pursue her. Background does not matter.”

Richard sighed. “It is too late. She is already married. Even has a kid.”

Nick stared. “What? She is married with a kid? Richard, that is… quite the taste you have got there.”

Aires’s gaze turned grim. “Is it a boy or a girl?”

Richard met Aires’s gaze calmly. “A boy. He turned five this year.”

Nick, oblivious to the tension, chuckled in his usual manner of cracking jokes. “What a coincidence! Alpha’s kid is five too. Richard, do not tell me the woman you like is Talia!” He laughs.

The moment the words left his mouth, we noticed Aires staring at Richard, his eyes grim and inscrutable. The air dropped a few degrees.

No way. Could it be true? But how?

Richard suddenly smiles. “Nick, no matter what you think of Ms. Jackson, she is still Aires’s wife and our Luna. Joking like that is disrespectful to her.”

He paused. “The woman I like… I met her eight years ago in Maynard. She was in college then and not married yet.”

Nick let out a long sigh of relief. For a moment, he too thought Richard was talking about Talia.

Aires shifted his gaze away, his expression unreadable.

Nick leaned in. “So… does she play the piano too?”

Richard nodded. “Yes, she does. Not just the piano. She plays several instruments, but the piano is where she truly shines. She also paints and dances. She was quite the star back in school. And her singing… it is beautiful.”

Nick whistled. “Damn. She is a total powerhouse.”

Richard sighed. “She really is a genius when it comes to art.

But… it is a shame.”

Nick raised an eyebrow, and if the rules of civil society weren’t holding him back, he would have shaken him by the shoulders 1906 “A shame? How so?”

Richard’s voice softened. “She got married young. Her husband treated her poorly, and had other women on the side. And for the sake of her family and child, she gave up the career she loved.”

Nick shrugged. “Richard, come on. There are plenty of fish in the sea.

She is married with a kid. She is out of your league now.

Time to move on.”

“No.” Richard’s usual easygoing demeanor was gone. “It is not that she is out of my league. If anything, I am the one who does not deserve her.”

Nick blinks. “Wait, are you still hung up on her?”

Richard exhaled, speaking softly after successfully stealing all the limelight from my performance.

“Back then, I thought as long as she was happy, it didn’t matter if she was not with me. But now, I see that marriage did not make her life better. It made it worse. If the man she married cannot give her happiness, then maybe I should.”

Nick stared. “Richard, man… I never pegged you as the romantic type. What is your plan? You gonna steal her back?”

“Why not?” Richard shrugged, giving me a funny look.

Nick chuckled and gave him a thumbs–up. “Well, damn. If you still feel this strongly after all these years, I am all for it. Go for it, man.”

Frankly speaking, I lost interest the moment I heard the woman was married with a kid. At first, I linked Richard’s words to Talia too.

But the more he talked, the surer I was that it was someone else. After all, she is nothing but a pretty face. How could she possibly be the brilliant woman Richard is describing?

Nick’s voice pulls me back to the present moment. “By the way… now that Alpha and Talia are divorced, I do not have to hold back for his sake anymore.”

Aires frowns slightly. “What are you planning?”

Nick’s voice sharpens. “That old bastard, Jack! I have had enough of him. He has been making things difficult for Imema, even landing her in the hospital multiple times.”

He looks at Aires. “Even Alpha himself saw it happen!”
