Chapter 18
Talia’s POV
“Now.”
Raymond checks his watch. “I have a flight to catch in a few hours. I’ll be back by Sunday, and we will communicate further after that. He is your responsibility until then. Do you have any questions? If not, I’ll take my leave.”
One thing is for sure. Werewolf or not, this man isn’t any ordinary man.
He prefers to be direct over being tactful and polite, even if it comes off as being rude… and that is a luxury only few people can afford in this world.
“Just one.”
I look down at the quiet boy standing beside me, waiting to see if he shows any emotions towards his father’s declaration of leaving him with me.
But he stays pale and withdrawn, only his fingers slightly curling into my sleeve, like he is afraid I might vanish.
“Robin’s health seems quite fragile. Does he have any dietary or lifestyle restrictions I should be careful about? Is he on any 13:31

ongoing medication or treatment?”
Raymond’s eyebrows lift, clearly surprised.
“Do you have medical training?”
“I study traditional medicine for a few years for someone I know personally. I have some understanding of congenital deficiencies in children.”
I hesitate, then continue, “But I don’t know Robin’s specifics. Could you have his doctor or usual nanny send me his care plan? His routines, preferences, allergies, medical notes…..”
Raymond’s casual body language sharpens, his gaze turning intense. It feels like he’s re–evaluating me from top to bottom, and the feeling is unsettling enough to jolt me.
I flinch.
“Did I say something wrong?”
He blinks, then looks away, and the pressure finally relents.
“No. I just didn’t expect you to be this attentive to Robin.”
I force a light smile, gesturing to the space between us, where an absurd amount of money hangs in the air.

Chapter 18
“I don’t know if you noticed, Mr. Capaldi, but if you pay someone one million a month, they tend to take their job seriously.”
Electra snorts beside me.
“Mr. Capaldi, you don’t even need to offer me a million. For a hundred thousand, I’d treat Robin like a little emperor. Ah yes, your son might be spoiled rotten, but there will be no complaints about lack of attention.”
Raymond chuckles softly, looking genuinely amused. It transforms his severe face entirely.
“Fair enough. I’ll have all his information sent to you within the hour.”
He glances at Robin.
“I would like to have a moment with him before I go.‘
“5”
“We’ll be waiting downstairs,” I say, gently pulling my hand from Robin’s. He looks up at me, worried, but doesn’t protest.
Electra and I step out into the hallway and I pull the door shut, giving the father and son their privacy as I squeeze Electra’s
arm.
What the hell did I just agree to?

Chapter 18
Raymond’s POV
I wait until the door clicks shut, and turn to look at Robin.
The look of confusion vanishes from his face like snow melting under the sun, replaced by a sharp focus that makes him look far older than five.
“You’re absolutely certain it’s her?”
He nods once. “Yes, it’s her. I want her to be my mother.”
I rub my jaw. The complications are stacked up, but the situation isn’t hopeless.
“If it was anyone else, it would be a simple transaction. Even if she’s a married woman with a child… I could write a check, make her husband see reason by any means necessary, and we would be done. But Aires Perseus‘ wife… taking something from a man like him is not just a simple negotiation, it’s a war.”
“I don’t care,” Robin insists, his small voice firm. “I want her.”
A slow smile spreads across my face. “Okay, then. I have to say, you have impeccable timing. Six months ago, this would have been a fantasy that I would have asked you to move on from.”
The pieces are all on the board, thanks to Aires‘ own arrogance. 4/7

“Now, he has been publicly courting his childhood sweetheart. Even his own son prefers the other woman over his own mother. Finally, she has moved out of the family mansion…”
I glance over at Robin, who is listening carefully to each word I’m speaking.
“I’ve created the opening. Now, the rest is up to you. Can you win her heart?”
All traces of childish innocence are gone from his face as he meets my gaze, his eyes clear.
“I will make her choose me.”
“Good.” I pat his head. “A Capaldi goes after what he wants, no matter the obstacle. By the way, you still haven’t told me why you like her so much. You saw her for what, a few days at that new kindergarten? Did she really leave such an impression on you?”
He had come home last week and announced, with complete seriousness, that he had found his future stepmother.
To be frank, I initially expected some gold–digger who had taken advantage of being close to him as a teacher, like many nannies have also tried in the past.

Instead, my investigators handed me a file on the most invisible, yet politically tangled woman in the city.
Talia Perseus.
“I watched her when she came to pick up her son. The way she looked at him… It wasn’t like the other mothers or nannies, who were there just to get a job done. Her gaze was warm and sad and strong, like she is happy to spend every moment with that boy. I know no one has ever looked at me like that… but that is what a mother is supposed to be like.”
I smile, feeling slightly proud of him.
He knows I don’t like speculations, or any statements based just on thoughts and feelings. And so, he has prepared a detailed analysis of the specific qualities he would like, and identified the perfect one.
He doesn’t want just any step–mother, as he has had plenty of options to choose from in the past.
He wants the one who can give him the warmth of a mother, and he’s decided Talia Perseus is the only one who can give it.
“Alright.”
I say, mapping the delicate path of pulling Aires Perseus‘ disgarded wife from the ruins of her old life.

“Then let’s get to work. You have a weekend to make an impression she can’t forget.”
