Before Serena passed away, she worried Eleanor might be left alone without anyone to protect her. She shared everything about her past. Hoped Eleanor would return to the Nelson family. That her brothers and father would take care of her.

Eleanor rubs her tired forehead. She looks worn out. The last thing she wants is to deal with the Nelson family again. If Serena had not asked her, on her deathbed, to try to get along with her so–called father and brothers, she never would have stayed in that house for so long.

I watch her for a moment. “If you want, I can look into it. See if there is another way.” I pause. “Without involving the Nelson family.”

The next day, I am in the music room, practicing my piano. Ever since I found out Eleanor plays too, I come here every day to practice. Just to be close to something she loves.

A small figure appears in front of me. Aeson.

“Robin.” His voice is cold. “You purposely broke my cup yesterday, didn’t you?”

The music room is empty. No teachers. No other students. I do not bother pretending. “Yeah.” I set my piano down. “I did it on purpose.”
