Chapter 229
Nick’s POV

The atmosphere around me is anything but pleasant. I can feel the tension radiating off Imema like heat from a furnace. We had been so sure of securing first place, so confident that Talia would finally be put in her place. Instead, she snatched victory right out from under us.
Imema clenches her fists unconsciously. I see her knuckles go
white. Her teeth grind together in frustration, a small sound
that only I can hear. Talia is indeed her sworn enemy. The
one person she cannot seem to defeat, no matter how hard
she tries.
Just then, my phone rings. I glance at the screen and see
Kade’s name flashing. I waste no time picking up.
“Dad, what is up?”
Kade’s tone is filled with satisfaction. I can practically hear
him smiling through the phone. “Nick, well done. You finally did something smart for once.”

races, trying to piece together what he means. I blink in
confusion.

“What did I do?”
Kade chuckles. “Are you not livestreaming right now? Talia is trending again. And since the stream comes from your
account, online discussions are blowing up.” He pauses. “Many people are starting to think that the last incident was just a publicity stunt between you and Talia…”
I do not hear another word after that. My face goes completely blank. The blood drains from my cheeks. Slowly, like a man moving through water, I turn to look at the phone resting nearby on its stand.
I had been so confident. So certain that Talia had no chance of turning the tables this time. The evidence was clear. The judge’s accusation was damning. I thought I had finally
caught her.
So I set up my phone with a stand, found a good angle, and left it there to stream. No need to hold it. No need to worry
about shaky footage or tired arms.
After all, with so many people chatting and laughing, holding 2/7

up a phone for a live broadcast is inconvenient and
exhausting. I wanted to enjoy the show, not work as a
cameraman.

I had been so caught up in watching Talia squirm that I
completely forgot the stream was still running.
The livestream.
That is still broadcasting. Right now. To thousands of people.
Every word of Talia’s flawless Norvish. Every moment of
James‘ humiliation. Every second of Talia’s perfect score.
All of it. Live. Unedited. Unstoppable.
At this moment, my livestream is filled with comments and
virtual gifts. The chat is moving so fast I cannot even read
individual messages. Gifts are pouring in like rain.
I had meticulously planned for Talia’s humiliation. I used a
high–performance phone to ensure the stream would not lag or crash when the audience burst into laughter at her expense. I wanted smooth, uninterrupted footage of her
downfall.

But things did not go as I hoped.
Instead of being mocked, Talia has gained an even larger group of devoted fans. People are rallying behind her. Defending her. Praising her.
At the same time, viewers are furiously accusing James of being a biased judge. They insist he must have accepted bribes to make things difficult for Talia. Some are already
calling for an investigation.
Flustered, my hands shaking, I hastily end the livestream. The screen goes dark.
But it is too late. The damage is done.
Imema’s POV
I watch everything unfold, and rage simmers beneath my
skin. Hot and uncontrollable.
This useless fool.
Why have I been foolish enough to trust Nick’s words?
Have any of his schemes ever succeeded? Not once. 4/7

Every single time, Talia not only turns the tables but also manages to highlight her own excellence even more. She uses Nick’s attacks as platforms. She turns his traps into
stages.
A chilling thought strikes me. Cold and unwelcome.
I abruptly turn to look beside me. Aires and Aeson are both staring intently in Talia’s direction. Aeson’s eyes are wide with something I cannot name. Aires’s expression is unreadable,
but his gaze is fixed, unwavering.
A wave of unease washes over me.
Getting rid of Talia is not going to be simple. Every attempt
makes her stronger. Every attack makes her more beloved. It
is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.
Do I really have to go to that person?
The thought makes my stomach clench. I have been avoiding
that path for years. For good reason.
Just then, my phone vibrates. A strange feeling rises in my chest, prickling at the back of my neck. I glance at the

screen.
The sender is an unknown number. No name. No
identification.

The message is short. Just a few words.
[If you cannot handle it, come back. I am waiting for you.]
My hands tremble. The phone slips through my fingers and
clatters to the floor.
Aires notices my reaction. His head turns toward me, his
brow furrowed. “Imema, what is wrong?”
I force a smile onto my face, though it feels like it might
crack. “Nothing…” I pick up the phone quickly, hiding the
screen. “I have been sitting here for too long. My body feels a
little weak.”
My fake illness is improving. It has to. A terminal illness
cannot miraculously vanish overnight. There has to be a gradual recovery process. Doctors have to be consulted. Treatments have to be administered.

before, I still use my condition as an excuse to call Aires over frequently. A headache here. Dizziness there. Nothing too dramatic, just enough to keep him concerned.
Right now, it is acting as a perfect excuse to save my dignity.
Aires’s gaze lingers on me for a moment longer. Then he nods and turns back toward the stage, and I let out a breath I have been holding for way too long.
