Chapter 87
Imema’s POV
Robin’s voice is calm, deliberate, each word a perfectly aimed dart. “Aeson, you saw how heartbroken Ms. Perseus
was over me. She barely even looked at you.”
Aeson stiffens in my grip. I can feel the rage building in his small body.
Robin continues, smug and unrepentant. “You’re right, Aeson.
I want to take your mother. I want her to be mine. And it’s
working–she’s starting to hate you, starting to love me. Right now, you mean nothing to her.”
If I weren’t holding him, Aeson would have launched himself at Robin like a tiny missile. This child needs to be stopped. He’s dangerous.
“Let me go!” Aeson struggles, tears of fury in his eyes. “I’m going to beat him up!”
I keep my grip firm, staring at Robin. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell Eleanor and Aires what you just said?”

Robin shrugs, utterly unconcerned. “Go ahead. Ms. Perseus
won’t believe you. And Mr. Perseus?” Another careless shrug.
“I don’t care if he believes me. He’s not my father.”
The arrogance is staggering. This child, this five–year–old, is
looking at me like I’m the amateur.
Then he smiles, sweet as poisoned candy. “Whatever you can
do, I can do better.”
Before I can respond, he pinches his own arm hard. His eyes
instantly flood with tears. His face crumples into perfect,
pitiful anguish.
He crumples to the floor, curling up, trembling. “Ms. Volkov,
I’m sorry! I didn’t hear anything! Please don’t hit me! Please!”
Aeson and I stare, frozen in shock.
His voice echoes down the empty corridor, designed to carry, designed to be heard.
I reach for him instinctively, trying to get him to his feet
before a crowd gathers.
“Imema!”

Eleanor’s voice cracks like a whip. She storms toward us,
shoving me aside so hard I stumble and fall. She drops to her
knees beside Robin.
“Robin! Are you okay? What did she do to you?”
Aires emerges from the teacher’s office behind us. He sees
me on the ground, Eleanor hovering over Robin, and his face darkens. He hurries to help me up.
“Eleanor, this is too far-”
“Get lost!” She doesn’t even look at him.
Teachers swarm around Robin, concerned. “What happened,
sweetheart? Tell us what happened.”
Robin’s voice trembles through his tears. “I saw Ms. Volkov
take Aeson to the corner where there’s no cameras. I got
scared, so I followed. I heard her whispering to Aeson…”
Eleanor’s eyes sharpen. “What did you hear?”
Robin wipes his tears, revealing the fresh bruise on his arm,
the one he gave himself. “I… I didn’t hear anything.” He

glances at me, terrified. “Ms. Volkov, I swear I didn’t hear
anything. Please don’t be mad…”
Eleanor’s face hardens to stone. “You don’t have to be afraid
anymore. Tell me everything you heard. I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
Robin takes a shaky breath. “Ms. Volkov told Aeson that you
and I stopped the doctor from saving him. That we wanted
him to die. She made him promise not to tell anyone, but
he almost slipped. And…” He glances at Aires. “She said Mr.
Perseus was lying. That he only said you saved Aeson to
protect his feelings.”
The corridor freezes.
I shake my head, desperate. “No, Aires, I didn’t push him! He
fell on purpose to frame me! Ask Aeson, he saw everything!”
I pull Aeson forward, gripping his shoulders. “Aeson, tell
them! Tell everyone I didn’t do anything! Robin is lying!”
Eleanor’s cold gaze settles on the boy.
“Yes, Aeson. Tell everyone. Is Robin lying?”

Talia’s POV
Aeson’s face is a mess of confusion. He must not expect
Robin to fall, didn’t expect the tears, and definitely didn’t
expect any of this. I know my son, his hesitation tells me
everything.
Robin’s words are true.
Something inside me snaps.
I cross the distance in two steps and slap Imema across the
face.
The crack echoes off the corridor walls. She staggers, falls,
her cheek swelling instantly. She stares up at me, hand
pressed to her reddening skin, disbelief warring with fury.
“You hit me? You actually hit me?”
My voice is ice. “You brought this on yourself. Try hurting a child again, and I’ll do worse.”
I have always blamed the man for infidelity. The mistress is
just a symptom of the disease; she wouldn’t be successful if the husband was good at maintaining his boundaries.

I despised Imema, yes, but I never wanted to harm her. She
could brainwash my son, fine. He shares his father’s blood,
his father’s taste. If he is willingly being manipulated by her, I
can’t help him.
But laying hands on an innocent child?
That’s unforgivable.
Imema lunges at me, nails extended, face twisted with rage. “I’ll kill you!”
I catch her wrist easily, pulling her close, ready to deliver
another slap, when hand closes around my wrist. Iron grip.
Unbreakable.
“Eleanor. Enough.”
Aires stops me, and my anger and all my strength is no
match for his Alpha strength.
Imema tears free and swings at me. I can’t dodge, Aires still
holds my arm. Her palm connects with my cheek. Hard.
Aires’s eyes flicker. “Imema, stop.”

She doesn’t hear him. She’s beyond hearing, lost in fury,
swinging wildly.
I grab a handful of her hair and yank.
Her scream pierces the air–high, genuine, satisfying. She
claws at my hand, but I don’t let go. Pain is irrelevant. With
one hand trapped by Aires and the other tangled in her hair, I can’t hit her again.
So I kick her in the knee instead.
She crumples, screaming, falling to the floor.
The disparity is obvious. Without Aires’s interference, she
never stood a chance.
Aires’s jaw tightens. He reaches for my other hand-
A slender white arm blocks him.
“Mr. Perseus.” The voice is lazy, magnetic, utterly unbothered.
“It’s rather undignified for a man to interfere in a catfight.
Are you really helping another woman attack your wife?”
