“The lighting was Alexander Silver’s contribution, actually,” Vera

interjected smoothly, her smile sharp as a knife. “Drake’s vision was

for the structural elements–the real backbone of the design. She

touched Drake’s shoulder, a gesture that screamed territorial. ‘It’s the

foundational aspects that truly make this project extraordinary,

wouldn’t you agree?”

Susan’s smile tightened at the corners. “Of course the structure is important, but it’s the ambiance that shoppers will remember.” She traced a finger along Drake’s forearm. “Drake understands that balance of form and function. That’s why he’s so… exceptional.” The

last word was practically a purr.

Not to be outdone, Vera hovered at Drake’s other side. “The marble flooring was an inspired choice,” she commented, deliberately brushing against his arm. “It reminds me of your office. Remember how we discussed extending that aesthetic to all Stone properties?”

“Did you?” Susan asked with artificial sweetness. “I thought the flooring concept came from the design team’s presentation last quarter–the one Drake approved while you were working on that… what was it again? That little cosmetics account?” Her dismissive tone reduced Vera’s previous project to insignificance.

Vera’s smile never wavered, though her eyes flashed dangerously. “The Luxe Cosmetics campaign–our most successful partnership to date. Drake and I worked closely on that strategy. Very closely.” The

implication hung in the air between them.

“This section will host luxury retailers,” the mall manager explained

as we approached a wing of empty storefronts. “Seventy percent

already leased before opening day–a record for the district.”

I made note of the figure, knowing I’d need to verify it later. The mall manager was nervous around Drake; people often inflated numbers when faced with an Alpha’s intimidating presence. Like I’m the only

one who sees through this bullshit.

“Oh, look!” Susan suddenly exclaimed, pointing to a sleek ice cream parlor. “Frozen Moon! They make the most amazing artisanal ice cream.” She turned those wide eyes on Drake again, adding a little pout that made me want to slap it off her face. “I’d love to try their

newest flavor. Please?”

Drake’s expression softened marginally. “Of course.”

“I read about them in Taste & Style,” Susan continued, pulling Drake toward the shop. “They were voted best new dessert concept in the city. I’ve been dying to try them.”

Vera immediately stepped closer. “Their lavender honey is supposed to be exceptional,” she cut in. “Though I’d be careful with that, Susan -I’ve heard it’s quite high in calories.” Her concerned tone couldn’t
