“And you took full advantage,” I replied, unable to keep the bitterness
from my voice. “You’ve been taking advantage ever since.”
His mouth curled into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “I gave you
what you needed. Safety. Security. A purpose.”
“A cage,” I corrected, heat rising in my cheeks. “A fucking gilded cage.”
Drake’s grip tightened, not enough to hurt but enough to remind me
of his strength. “A cage you walked into willingly, little wolf.”
I couldn’t argue. I had chosen this life, this contract. My mother’s life
had depended on it. But god, how I hated him in that moment–hated
him for being right, for knowing exactly what buttons to push.
Drake suddenly released me, stepping back. His eyes raked over my
body, from my sensible heels to my tailored skirt and blouse,
lingering on the pendant at my throat. “Ten years,” he mused. “And
you’re still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned.”
The possessive claim should have angered me. Instead, a treacherous

warmth spread through my belly. I hated how my body responded to him, even now, even knowing what I knew. Traitor, I cursed my own
body.
This is the last time, I reminded myself.
With that thought anchoring me, I stepped forward, surprising us both by raising my hand to cup his face. His stubble was rough
against my palm, his skin warm. His eyes widened slightly at the
unexpected gesture.
“You’re right,” I said softly. “It’s been ten years.”
Drake’s gaze turned molten, burning with sudden heat. “You’re
different tonight.”
“Maybe I’m tired of fighting,” I murmured, letting my thumb trace his
lower lip. “Maybe I just want to feel something besides anger for
once.”
It wasn’t entirely a lie. I was tired–of the constant push and pull
between us, of wanting what I shouldn’t, of hating what I craved.
Tonight would be the end of it all.
Drake growled low in his throat, the sound vibrating through my fingers. He captured my wrist, turning his face to press his lips

against my pulse point. “Mine,” he whispered against my skin.
I didn’t contradict him. Not tonight. For the last time, I thought. And
then never again.
His mouth found mine in a kiss that started gentle but quickly turned
hungry, demanding. I yielded to him, opening under the insistent
pressure of his tongue, letting him taste my surrender. His hands
moved to my waist, lifting me effortlessly and carrying me to the
bedroom.
As he laid me on the mattress, I gazed up at him–at the man who had
controlled my life for a decade. Drake Stone, Alpha of the Black
Obsidian Pack, CEO of Stone Industries, feared and respected
throughout Twin Moon City. My captor. My boss. My lover.
For tonight, I would let myself forget the rest. Forget the contract, the years of control, the humiliation and heartbreak. Tonight would
be my goodbye.
Drake undressed me slowly, reverently, his usual impatience absent. He kissed each inch of skin as it was revealed, murmuring praise
against my flesh. When I was naked beneath him, he stood to remove
his own clothes, his eyes never leaving mine.
“Ten years,” he said again, joining me on the bed. “And I still want you
