Alpha’s Private Plaything
Chapter 214
Drake
As I ended the call, I turned to see Allen approaching down the
corridor, clutching a small bouquet of flowers. My wolf immediately
bristled, a low growl forming in my chest. Lucas had been circling
Elsa for months now, using Allen as their point of contact. But I knew
who was really pulling the strings.
Allen slowed when he saw me, his expression shifting from concern
to wariness. “Mr. Stone,” he greeted cautiously, his eyes flicking to the
hospital room door behind me.
“Moonlight,” I acknowledged coldly, my stance widening slightly,
shoulders squaring. “What brings you to my room?”
He held up the flowers as if they explained everything. “I wanted to
check on Elsa. Is she awake?”
“She’s resting,” I said, deliberately positioning myself between him
and the door, my height advantage allowing me to look down at him
with unconcealed disdain. “I’ll let her know you stopped by.”
Allen didn’t budge. “I’d prefer to see her myself.”

“Would you?” I took a step closer, my nostrils flaring as I inhaled his
scent, enjoying the way he tensed. “Or would Lucas prefer you see
her? Since you’re here on his behalf.”
His eyes widened slightly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t insult my fucking intelligence,” I said, my voice dropping to a
dangerous register, eyes flashing gold momentarily. “I know every
time you visit her, every call you make, every text you send–it all
gets reported back to Lucas. You’re his eyes and ears because he’s too
much of a coward to face me directly.”
Allen’s face flushed with anger. “You’re monitoring her phone? Her
movements? That’s an invasion of privacy!”
“She’s my assistant before,” I replied smoothly, a muscle in my jaw
twitching. “Her professional interactions are my business.”
“This isn’t professional and you know it,” Allen hissed, lowering his
voice as a nurse walked past. “Lucas isn’t the one playing games here.
He’s been straightforward about his interest in Elsa.”
“Straightforward?” I laughed, the sound harsh and mocking in the
sterile corridor. “Is that what you call sending his lapdog to do his
dirty work? Very brave of him.”

Allen’s hands clenched at his sides. “Is that what this is about, Stone?
You treat Elsa like shit, but no one else can be nice to her? She’s your
assistant, not your property.”

My wolf surged forward, and I felt my eyes flash with their Alpha
glow. I stepped closer, invading his personal space, my hands itching
to grab him by the throat. “Watch your next words very carefully,
Moonlight,” I warned, voice barely above a whisper. “The last man
who spoke to me like that is missing three fingers.”
“Or what?” Allen stepped closer, surprising me with his boldness. “I’ve
seen how she looks when your name comes up. Like she’s bracing for
impact. What kind of man instills that kind of fear in a woman he
supposedly cares about?”
I was about to respond, my hand already halfway to his collar, when
the door behind me opened. Elsa stood there, her hospital gown
hanging loosely on her frame, her injured arm cradled against her
chest. Her eyes, still cloudy with sleep and medication, moved from
me to Allen and back again, a look of bewilderment crossing her face
as she stared at Allen.
The moment her attention shifted to him, I felt a surge of possessive
rage that threatened to overwhelm my carefully maintained control.
My canines lengthened, pressing against my lower lip as I fought the
urge to shift. The look on Allen’s face–that mix of concern and
