Chapter 216

Allen studied my face for a long moment, clearly sensing there was more to the story. Finally, he nodded, though reluctance was written across his features.
I’ll be back soon,” he promised, giving my hand a gentle squeeze
efore leaving.
As I shuffled back into the room, a heavy silence filled the air. I could feel Drake’s eyes on me, boring into my back like twin drills. My skin crawled under his scrutiny, but I refused to meet his gaze, instead making my way to my bed and climbing in with some difficulty, cursing under my breath as pain shot through my arm.
“Why didn’t you let him help you escape from my control?” Drake’s voice was eerily calm, almost curious.
I turned to face him then, my eyes narrowing as I found his expression unreadable. “Because you’d hurt him, you bastard,” I answered honestly, venom lacing my words. “You bullying me is one thing, but I won’t let you drag him into this mess.”

Chapter 216
Something flashed in Drake’s eyes–surprise, maybe even respect-
before they hardened again. He shifted in his bed, wincing slightly as
the movement pulled at his bandaged chest.
I turned away with a disgusted snort, pulling the thin hospital
blanket over my legs and pretending to go back to sleep. My heart

glowed with that dangerous Alpha light, and I could feel heat
radiating from his skin. Too much heat.
“Get the fuck off me,” I hissed, trying to push him away, panic rising
in my throat. “You’re burning up.”
Drake ignored my protest, his hands gripping my shoulders so tightly
I knew they’d leave bruises. “You think I’m bullying you?” His voice
was low, dangerous. “After everything I’ve done for you?”

Before I could respond, he crashed his lips against mine in a
punishing kiss. His hands moved to tear at my hospital gown, and
panic surged through me. I struggled beneath him, my injured arm
screaming in protest as I tried to shove him away.
“Stop it!” I gasped when I could breathe again. “You’re out of your
mind!”
As I tried to push him away, my hand accidentally connected with the
bandage on his chest. Drake let out a sharp hiss of pain and recoiled,
his face contorting.
I immediately reached for the call button and pressed it repeatedly,
my hands shaking violently. Within seconds, a nurse rushed in, her
