Alpha’s Private Plaything
Chapter 235
Elsa
*The doctors managed to restart her heart with the emergency equipment, but she’s on life support now. The silver has reached her cardiac tissue. They’re saying she needs a specialized heart implant or…” She didn’t finish the sentence.
“I’ll be there right away,” I managed to say before ending the call, my voice cracking like thin ice.
I looked up at Drake, not caring that tears were streaming down my face or that snot was probably running from my nose. “I need to go to the special ward. Now, goddammit, NOW!”
Without a word, Drake guided me toward the exit, his hand firm against the small of my back. Outside, Taylor was already waiting with the car door open.
Hospital, special ward,” Drake ordered as we slid into the backseat.
“There’s heavy traffic, sir,” Taylor warned. “Morning rush hour.”
“Find a way through it,” Drake’s voice left no room for argument. “Or I’ll find another driver who can.”
As we inched through Twin Moon City’s congested streets, I stared out the window, my mind racing with terrible possibilities. My mother was the only family I had left, besides Oliver. The thought of losing her made it hard to breathe. I chewed my thumbnail until I tasted blood, my knee bouncing frantically against the car door.
“Shit, shit, shit,” I whispered, fogging the window with my ragged breathing.
Taylor’s phone rang, and he answered it in hushed tones before glancing at Drake in the rearview mirror. “Sir, I’ve just received an update from the special ward. Ms. Lillian Hale’s condition is critical. The silver poisoning has spread to sixty percent of her heart tissue.”
Drake’s jaw tightened. “Don’t tell Elsa that yet,” he said quietly, but not quietly enough.
“Tell me what?” I demanded, my voice rising with panic as I whipped around to face him. “What the fuck aren’t you telling me? Don’t you dare hide things about my mother!”
“Focus on getting there first,” Drake said, his tone surprisingly gentle as he placed a restraining hand on my arm. “One step at a time.”
I yanked my arm away, pressing myself against the car door. “Don’t touch me,” I hissed, though my wolf trembled at rejecting an Alpha’s
comfort.
Thirty minutes later, we finally pulled up to the hospital entrance. I didn’t wait for Taylor to open my door, practically throwing myself out of the car and sprinting toward the entrance, nearly colliding with a nurse pushing a wheelchair.

Chapter 235
“I’ll wait here. I heard Drake tell Taylor behind me. “She’ll be back. She has no choice,
Inside the special ward, the atmosphere was clinical and cold. Silver poisoning patients required specialized care, and the ward was
designed for maximum efficiency rather than comfort. The antiseptic smell burned my nostrils, making me gag.
“Where the hell have you been?‘ the caretaker demanded when she saw me, her eyes red–rimmed from crying. She grabbed my arm with surprising strength. “This isn’t a regular ward, Ms. Hale. Silver poisoning patients can leave us at any fucking moment.”
I flinched at her harsh tone but couldn’t blame her. My hands were shaking so badly I had to shove them into my pockets.
Before I could respond, Dr. Greene approached, his face solemn. “Ms. Hale, please come with me to my office. We need to discuss your
mother’s condition.”
In his sterile white office, Dr. Greene didn’t waste time with platitudes. “The silver suppression device we implanted last month is only temporarily controlling the toxin’s spread. Without immediate intervention, you should prepare for the Moonlight Ceremony.”
The Moonlight Ceremony–our version of a funeral. My stomach twisted painfully, and bile rose in my throat. I swallowed hard, tasting
